The entire bookcase is oak and has not be refinished. All original wood with a nice patina to it. I believe it is from the late 1930's. Combined. It is 6 shelves high with a pull down/hinged glass door on each shelf. All glass intact. Some of the original brass knobs were missing but will include extra knobs, specific for Globe-Wernicke units, though newer/shinier. Circa 1940 Oak Four adjustable shelves Hand carved cornice Excellent condition, Some of the most wonderful English antiques are made from oak and have attractive mouldings. Here we have a wonderful example of that in this antique bookcase with glass door. The wood used in this bookcase is solid oak and is quite sturdy. Intricate carvings adorn the cornice. These carvings are subtle and appear to be hand done. The oak itself has a wonderful. Medium patina that comes from the passage of time. The single glass door is fitted ... morewith old, wavy glass giving us some idea of the age of the bookcase. This bookcase originated in England. We purchased it in around Somerset but it could have been made anywhere on the island. It dates back to around 1940. The single glass door of this bookcase locks with an included key. Inside are four adjustable oak shelves. These shelves adjust with a brass pin system and are about 12.25″ deep inside. A brass pin system system is a series of holes on all four corner of the bookcase that you insert brass pins into which the shelf rests on. The shelves are quite visible through the glass. Making this bookcase a wonderful display piece. The bun feet are fitted with antique casters that have porcelain wheels. This bookcase has survived the years with little to no wear and is in excellent condition. It is sturdy. The lock functions easily, and the shelves are strong. Solid Oak. Heavily carved antique library bookcase with lighting fixtures installed. Truly a unique piece at estate proportions. Sliding glass doors with glass shelves. 90" wide, 19"deep, 98"tall. Those are actual sizes, not a typo! Recessed wooden base cabinet allows for placement around wainscoting. Was left from an estate sale. I'm posting this for my step-parents. It's an amazing piece of furniture and has been well cared for while in their hands. All of the wood is solid and in good shape. Apparently it does come apart into two pieces, but I honestly have not figured out where all the two parts are bolted together. They don't know it's exact age. we really need an expert to assess it. Antique Curved Glass Door for Secretary Bookcase China Closet Oak Wood w Glass!!
Here is a hard-to-find curved glass door for a 1890's- 1900's oak side by side Secretary/ Bookcase/ China cabinet. It is made of oak- quarter sawn on the top and bottom curved boards and straight sawn on the sides. All original with the original shellac finish. Latch but no handle or hinges. Some shellac on the glass(removable) Glass in good shape. Now the important part: It measures 27 7/8" tall. From the outside corners across the back is 16" wide. The hinge mortice is 1 1/2" and starts at 2" from either end. The lock hole is at just over 15" on center. Shipping is high because it's going to take a lot to box it to prevent breakage.

The old finish with warm patina has been revarnished recently. There are various restorations plus shrinkage separations and wear on this historic furniture. Hand cut dovetail joints. Square nails, mortise and tenon joints and hand planing marks are all authentic. Locks and keys work, the drop front rests on pull out supports. Inside are 11 small drawers plus a locking compartment. Upper doors have carved pegs at the corners. Brasses are about 100 years old but not original on this very functional European country antique. As I believe they had a brand called Library Bureau. Its hardware& moldings look similar to some of the Globe styles. In any case. It's a nice bookcase in good shape, with very clean lines, nice golden-oak color and appears to be constructed of mainly quarter-sawn oak with little if any veneer on the main exposed parts(excepting the back of course, and possibly the bottoms inside which look like a clear maple) The finish appears intact, with its age-related character. We've given this a cleaning, you may want to go further with perhaps some steel wool, decades of office-life generally leave these old barristers with their typical use-related'Character' ... moreplease see the photos) which to my eye is all part of the antique. We used this piece for holding antiquarian natural history books and art-books. For which it works excellently. The doors have glass to the top, giving good visibility to books or precious treasures.The lower closed sections of the doors have beautifully carved central panels, the deep carving featuring vases, flowers and foliage. The interior has four(4) fully adjustable shelves, as well as the base of the cabinet, and more shelving could be added for greater storage. There are also two drawers to the base, again with tasteful carving and fittings. Whilst there is a key in the lock, the lock is not working and the key is used only for ease of opening the door. Solid Globe Wernicke C 197 plain oak Lawyers bookcase section out of an estate. Old flaky finish that comes off easily. The back panel and the bottom panel are seperated some which is common and an easy fix. Has original wavy glass and knob. The door is correct and is plain oak but I'm not sure its the one that came with this section. Appears to be missing a few nails here and there. The board under the door is bowed up slightly and the door rubs it when you shut it. Needs complete and total restoration or use for parts. Shipping is $40.00 to the US lower 48 states only. Antique Globe Wernicke 6-Stack 299 Grade Oak Stacking Lawyers Barrister Bookcase
Up for bid is a wonderful 6-stack Globe Wernicke lawyers or barristers bookcase made of quartersawn oak. All sections are the very desirable Grade 299(quarter sawn/tiger oak with the medium finish) Has the very desirable ogee(curved) top and bottom. All sections are size D-10 1/4. Bookcase is ALL ORIGINAL. Original finish. Original wavy glass, original knobs on the doors. Bookcase is ALL COMPLETE. All labels are present and intact. All glass is present(no cracks or breaks) All felt along the tops of the doors is complete and intact. All scissors mechanisms are present. All acid-etched side bands are correct and present. I rescued over 20 sections from a storage room of an old Chicago school library, and these 6 sections were in the best condition. Condition of the sections is way above average for their age. After 100 years the finish on ... morethese cases has usually"alligatored" Not here. Although there are the usual scratches and chips in the finish, which is to be expected(there is a rub of white paint on the right side of one section shown in the photos) the outside finish is overall extremely smooth with a nice gloss. The very top has the most wear and scratches as the librarians slid and stacked items on top of the cases. There is also the reside from 2 old pieces of cellophane tape on the front of the top. I can find no delamination of the back panels, nor any bubbling of the veneer on the very top. Being in a library for so many years has preserved them nicely. Overall size of the bookcase is 84" tall x 34" wide x 12" deep. If you need more photos. Or have additional questions, please email me. It is all original. it has a drawer in the base on the bottom, 5 stacking sections and a top. The finish is original with a darker stain that has faded and worn in some spots as shown. there is no damage to any of the glass, but I am not sure it is all original. No makers mark can be found, but I am pretty sure it is a Globe Wernick. Side straps and sissors guides on the top insides are pretty consistant with there cases. Measures, 68 inches tall, is 34 inches wide and about 11 inches deep, on the bottom and the sep back sections are 9 1/2 inches deep the top 3 sections are 8 inches tall inside, next section is 9 tall inside, and bottom section is about 12 inches tall inside for books. there are 5 bookcase sections ... moreand a top and bottom. Measures, 63 inches tall, is 34 inches wide and about 12 inches deep. the top section is 17 inches tall inside, next section is 11 tall inside, and bottom section is about 13 inches tall inside for books. The folding bookcase is a medium-to-dark stained oak stand. At each end is an inset carved circle with a stylized design inside. The design has been stained a deep russet with a mustard and off-orange stylized design. This appears to have been hand created. As one end appears a little'brighter' in color than the other. These ends are attached to a long, rectangular frame, with carved'finials' on each corner. The two ends fold down flat, created by a screw mechanism found next to the outside finial. The tabletop bookcase is in excellent condition ... morefor its age, with a single chip of the wood by one of the inset designs. There is a smattering of light scratches on the bottom, which I believe would polish right out. I didn't notice until taking pictures that there is the number'1543' hand-written on the bottom. This is a beautiful, possibly hand created book stand, and reflects design elements from both the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau eras. The stand measures approximately 15-1/2 inches long, 5-1/2 inches wide and with the ends raised 5-1/4 inches tall. I would hate for you to be disappointed with any aspect of your purchase.
