The gothic revival begins in earnest in 1837 with the publication in London of Pugin's Contrasts. But this gothic revival bookcase with glazed doors must date towards the 4th quarter of the 19th century. It seems well constructed and an attractive piece of furniture that would prove useful and harmonic in almost any home decor. This bookcase has wear commensurate with its age. The outside finish is a bit dull, but a good polish would make it look fabulous. The shelves are all adjustable. The center door is missing the lock, the two side doors have locks and a key but I cannot get them to work. MEASUREMENTS: 72 long. The piece comes in two parts. The four door- four drawer base, and the glass fronted top. It's the perfect mix of aesthetic beauty and practical usefulness and will add a touch of style and elegance to any interiors scheme. The piece has the characteristic Sheraton style inlay to the front with the urns and garlands gracing the front of each door. There is also a thin strip bordering the doors. Drawers and glass fronted doors. If you imagine how this inlay is created you can see how much skilled craftmanship and man hours goes into the making of this fine piece of furniture. Each piece of marquetry inlay design has to be cut out of the softer fruitwood and then embedded into the harder mahogany of the main structure. There is a lot of storage space. The doors on the bottom open out to reveal the large inner space. This door is lockable and comes with a key. The drawers at the top open out cleanly. Then of course there is the fantastic glass fronted top half again with keys. When this opens out you can see the shelves are adjustable so you can store various items. Being glass fronted its a great way to showcase your decorative pieces. Such as porcelain, bronzes and other collectibles. Of course books also look great in this piece. At the top is the classical pediment. This fine piece of furniture is a design classic and will last you for generations and hence makes for a great heirloom. The piece has an air of classical refinement to the design with the clean lines and the pediment top. At the top is the draped garlands marquetry inlay in satinwood complemented by the horizontal lines to the front. The great thing about these is their flexibility with the adjustable shelf system so you can store items of different sizes. Of course these are conventionally bookcases but you can also use them to showcase decorative items such as porcelain and bronze. They are indeed a perennial design classic and look great in both classic and contemporary interiors. Here is a very handsome and seven foot tall Empire Revival period solid mahogany bookcase with some gorges figured and feathered veneer. The arched original glass doors add an elegant touch. Open the doors and find a grain painted interior with three adjustable shaped shelves. The base contains two deep hand dovetailed drawers with original wooden pulls. The"case" or the top section is also dovetailed construction. This bookcase has the nice rounded edges and the simple crown with the lovely figured veneer. It has a raised top section which has a caddy style cornice above a central fret carved mount. Beneath are 4 open shelves fixed at the height shown, these are flanked by a pair of framed& glazed doors with original locks and replacement key in good working order, they each have 4 internal shelves which can be adjusted in heights, both the top and bottom have applied circular detail ... moreto the upright sections. The lower section has an inverse stepped front. It has 3 good sized drawers across the top with original brass handles, dovetail joints and solid wood drawer linings, there is a central recess which is flanked by a pair of panel doors with applied moulding and carved detail at the top, both cupboards have a single internal shelf fixed at the height shown and come with lock and replacement key(1 key to open& lock all cupboards and doors) It stands on a sturdy plinth base THE BOOKCASE COMES IN 2 PARTS FOR EASE WHEN TRANSPORTING Condition The Bookcase is 100% sound. Sturdy and free from woodworm, it has very slight fading to the left hand end and the flat surface on the sideboard, the flat surface also has a couple of faint scratches and 3 small indentations(see close ups) it also has slight rubbing and marks around the plinth at the bottom at the front& sides. A very fine antique. Circa 1840, Empire plain mahogany boards, with some flame mahogany veneers, bookcase top secretary desk over two door cabinet. Two piece construction: the bookcase with three adjustable wood shelves, the interior with an old ivory paint finish. Both doors retain their original wavy glass, brass escutcheon, key and lock. The drop front desk has a felt writing surface, cubbyhole with two drawers and letter slots. The two bottom doors have a brass grill over dowel framed pink fabric, with brass escutcheon and lock. A very fine antique. Circa 1890's, solid mahogany, and stripped mahogany veneers, double door bookcase. The case has curved front corners carved with spiraling acanthus leaves. Large carved claw feet are on front. The case sides and the top board are solid mahogany. Each door has the original wavy glass panel, brass escutcheons, and the key(the two locks are missing their catch. each compartment holds three adjustable mahogany stained maple board shelves. It measures 56-1/4" tall by 54" wide by 15" deep, the shelves 11-1/4" deep. Excellent condition: beautiful original finish, no chips or cracks to mahogany boards, veneers without chips. The glass panels are undamaged.

There are two glass pane doors, with ornamental Gothic arch tops, each door with eight glass panes. Six mahogany stained maple adjustable shelves and back boards. The drawer base has flame mahogany veneers on drawer, original mahogany knobs. The furniture measures 7'6" 89-1/2" tall by 4' 48" wide by 18" deep, the shelves 11" deep. Very good plus condition: original finish, doors with lock, no key. Six panes on one door are new glass replacements, the rest old wavy glass. Small veneer chip top front edge of drawer case.
