Antique Traveling Inkwell Double Book Case Schiller Werk 1 and 2 RARE
Antique inkwell disguised as miniature double volume books entitled"Schillers Werke Band 1. 2 Verlag Cotta" Apropos considering Friedrich Schiller was one of the great writers, poets of all time. This small traveling well and has seen a lot of use. A small push on button opens the case, a latch pops the brass lid open to reveal a hand blown glass well. There is another small well for either an extending pen with nib, or just the nib. The brass is all hand etched with design as well as the lid. There are no marks or patents and the wells are set into a larger metal compartment. I did not force the glass well out for a picture as it is not easily removed. The exterior was entirely leather bound, but has come off the lid, a portion of this is inside for keeping. 2 15/16" x 2" x 1.25" deep. The book measures just 4" tall X 2 1/2" wide X 3/4" thick; it has a leather cover and a buckle to close it though the cover is no longer attached to the book. The pages of the book are mostly loose, there is staining throughout, some pages are folded and/or torn, foxing& browning throughout, the cover has staining + the buckle part is tearing off, book is EXTREMELY FRAGILE! Having said all that. This book is very cool! It is, as said before, in French and is an almanac of the year 1780. This book is a hand written and drawn copy done in the 19th century. The original was published IN 1743 by Shangguan zhou. There are 113 figural drawings and more that 113 pages of calligraphy in this two volume set. Someone has written in pencil that they are biographical studies by Lu Kei to his teacher Lai Za. The jacket of the books has been replaced. There is some slight wear to some of the pages and a few ink drops and small smears but overall the book is in fine condition. I would say that this is a fine scholars work of art. Measurements are approximate White spots are light reflection. Antique Cast Iron Maritime Fisherman Lobsterman Door Stop Book End
This vintage“Old Salt” Fisherman door stop is approx. 6.5” high and 2.75” wide. There has been no touchup done on this cast iron door stop and the original paint is still in sharp colors. The yellow rain jacket with the black hat and boots are very good except for some minor paint loss on the edge of the hat. At the base and on the fisherman’s left back leg there are some spots that look like rust from moisture of some kind. But overall the door stop is in very good condition for its age. Hubley made examples of this kind, but I found no mark on the door stop. Please see the photos as part of the description. There is no reserve on this item! If you have any questions. Selling an antique Keuffel& Esser transit level. Includes tripod. Case, book, plumb bomb and black detachable piece for objective lens. Book is copyrighted 1950: its a little crumpled but readable and usable- cover is loose. Level seems to be in working order. Tripod has some duct tape on the top of one leg covering a crack- see photo- it is still fully functional. this is a stunning antique victorian brass and velvet photo album from late mid to late 1800's it has beautiful detailing with a nice ornate spring loaded brass clasp that works great. the front covers sides are wrapped in embossed floral brass pieces.
