I have spent endless hours locating a source for these knobs. This auction is for 2(two) AGED/BURNISHED) base knobs. Knob width at the TOP DIAMETER is 1 3/16" TOTAL KNOB HEIGHT is 7/8" BASE WIDTH IS 1/2" These are the correct size and profile for the drawer bases for Globe Wernicke® and Macey stack units(although they work great for Gunn, Lundstrum, Weis, Danner and others as well) There were at least 8 different styles of knobs. This style was the most prominent and the best made of the 4 cast versions. It is made of polished brass and then aged to match your original knobs. The aging and burnish process takes a 5 step process and can be hazardous to perform. The aging/burnishing is done at essentially cost. See our ad for Aging Solution. If you want the knobs polished it is an additional please see the other ad. Page show normal thumbing to perimeter, some grubbiness from little fingers and normal age-toning to page which is of coated paper. Cute rhyming verse from the dog's perspective. This antique plane appears complete and likely still in working order. There are a total of 27 cutters included with the plane. I have cleaned 9 of them with a wire brush. And underneath the dirt and surface rust there is a number on most of them. The old instruction manual is missing the front and back covers. The first page number of the instruction manual is"3" and the last page number is"22" On page 20, there are illlustrations and a list of"regular cutters for'55' plane. Professor Gaskell was the principal of two colleges and his work spanned many years. Among reference books. Gaskell's was at the very top, for reasons of civility and societal status. This reference book contains 504 pages and measures 8 1/4" by 10 7/8" This copy of Gaskell's was obtained from a retired librarian who happens to collect Victorian books(this was NEVER a library book) Due to its age and obvious use, she had the spine re-adhered to the pages. This is a tremendous asset allowing the pages to be tightly bound. The bound pages are in great order with no foxing, minor tanning, and but a few small tears or dog ears. This book was held in high esteem, used on a regular basis and it shows. Covers can always be mended- it's the inner workings of a text that tells whether it was respected or not. Colonial Silverware of the 17th and 18th Centuries. Comprising Solid Sets. Small Wares, Candelabras, Communion Service, etc. By N[ewton] W. Elwell. Published in Boston by Geo. H. Polley& Co. 1899. DISCUSSION: One of the earliest studies of American silver. And probably the earliest study to publish photos of American silver. Preceded by Buck, but then Buck was not wholly devoted to American silver. Of course, to be honest, this is not wholly devoted to American silver either, with English examples creeping in here and there. If we are going in this direction, it’s not all 17th and 18th century either, but the intent at least was there. The plates mainly illustrate multiple pieces. Identified by where they were photographed, such as"elaborate silver ware from Baltimore, Maryland" Odd Silver Sugar Bowls, for Lump Sugar, from Maryland” ... moreand so on. Localities are much more likely, therefore, to relate to where the silver was at the time the photos were taken(mainly in private homes) rather than where it was made. There are some pieces with histories-silver known to have been owned by a certain person, several identified sets of church plate, etc. In 1896 Elwell had published a study of Colonial American furniture. And in 1897 he produced a companion volume of furniture and interiors of Colonial Maryland and Virginia, both of which used the same format as this book. All three books are scarce. AMAZING antique book of old calling cards. Cover is embossed black featuring holly& berries with pale gold metallic highlighting. But the three Santas are the focus. They are"3-d" puffy. The one on the lower left has a book with"Santa Claus" beneath him- probably keeping track of which kids are naughty or nice. The lower right one appears to be carrying a platter with a turkey while the one at the top is definitely making a list. The spine says"scrap" The back is plain with the exception of"PAT. MARCH 1876" Inside there are calling cards- none of which I would say have a holiday motif. While all the pages but one(see photos- all pages are shown) are"attached" Some appear to have been ripped at the corners. Overall size is approximately 5 1/2" x 6 7/8" But the beauty of this book ... moreis the cover. It is old- and its condition is age-appropriate. I am not a dealer or professional. This book was published in Boston. MA by Phillips, Sampson and Company. The book has an alternate title which is"Literary Gift" Dated MDCCCLIII. Edited by Emily Percival. Book was gifted from Nate to Susan F. Meyer as a Christmas gift in 1852, that is 160 years ago! Gotta love that fancy old handwriting, it really is beautiful and elegant, you never see it anymore. I believe the gold on the book covers. Page edges, and scattered through the book may very well be real gold leaf! It's a very neat old book with great illustrations by the most prominent european and american artists of the time. The images are even protected by a thin wax paper, which I think is original. Pages are in good condition, very readable, great literature and old stories. Binding has damage but the book is still 95% together with only some of the middle ... morepages trying to come unbound. The book doesn't fall apart when you open it. Can still open and read it. Pretty sure the hard outer covers are leather. There can't be many copies of this book left in existence. It is SO old and doesn't seem like a book that was mass produced. Because of its high quality. Maybe this is the last one! Also. Is this a first edition? Kind of seems like it! And it even has a catch to hold the book closed as it were. Quite amazing. It is unmarked. But has been located to have been made by James W Tufts# 1589 by the authors below. It is shown in the book by Gottschalk and Whitson's book" Figural napkin Rings: Collectors Identification and Value Guild" On page 259, in plate 637. See photo below. they say they have located it to be made by the famous silversmith james W Tufts, who made unusual designs like this, including irons(for clothes) etc. This figural napkin ring is in very good condition. I have not polished it. Or even clean it. It just arrived! There are no real issues with this item. Other than some wear, some scratches and a couple of little knocks to the corner. See photos.
