A miniature book with decorated card covers consisting of sixteen squared off patterns. Folded in a concertina, for samplers. Probably sold as a souvenir of the Great Exhibition of 1851, which took place in London's Hyde Park. Some are emblems. Some are different fonts and some are patterns. The last four. Which are printed in green, consist of one entitled: The Crystal Palace Exhibition 1851" and a picture of the palace. The next is entitled"Souvenir" with a graphic pattern below, then one with a central cow and rural objects. The final one with the Prince of Wales feathers and a squared off thistle. One of the first maps of Biblical Israel in printed books. Signature on Title page of Yitzchak Marpurgo. Italy mid-18th century. Friend of Ephraim Luzzato, a poem is written in his honor in Eleh Bene Hane'urim of Luzzato. Scattered rabbinic marginalium on several pages seem to be in the hand of Marpurgo. Leaf 7 is lacking and has been filld in entirely by hand. In neat Italian Hebrew script, most probably in Marpurgo's hand as well. Sefer ha-Mizrachi is a supercommentary on Rashi's commentary on the Torah. It is counted in its own right as among the most important commentaries on the Torah. Mizrachi himself considered his commentary on Rashi the most important of his works(Responsa. Nos. ... more5, 78) The work shows Rashi's Talmudic and midrashic sources, and elucidates all obscure passages. It was written, partially, to defend Rashi from the strictures of the later commentators, particularly Nachmanides. Add gold gilt pages edges, and a wonderful scene of children reading,that appears to be a separate card inserted within the cover. Furthermore there are12 charming black and white illustrations. The inscription also adds interest since it appears to have been given to a young girl in a french ... moreschool. Her name was Maggie Moore. And she attended the Edgeworth School in 1868. I believe the school may have been in Maryland. My reason is based upon the original store stamp that is still affixed to the rear board. Ballard was a perfectly happy and wealthy St. Louis drug manufacturer when he bought his first oriental rug while walking down a street in New York in 1905. From there he went on to rapidly amass one of the greatest and most important private collections of oriental carpets in American history. This vintage antique 1938 Walt Disney Ferdinand the Bull linen like childrens' book. That I was told was a first edition, is in very nice condition with great colors. The front of the book reads"From the Walt Disney Production based on"The Story of Ferdinand" by Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson. The inside of the cover reads" Published by Whitman Publishing Company Racine Wisconsin" Printed in U.S.A. Copyright 1936 by Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson" Copyright 1938 by Walt Disney Enterprises" This spine has very little wear and the front and first page have a tiny brown spot on the bottom of the book(please see photo) It may be a burn mark, hard to tell it's so small. Rare Antique Sterling Silver Wishbone Book Mark & S. S. Childs Comb Holder? .925
Offered today are these two Interesting. Rare, Sterling Silver items. One is a Sterling Silver, Wishbone shape Bookmark that says Sterling on it but I can not read the makers name. I am just guessing that this other item is a childs sterling comb holder. If anyone knows what it is please let me know. The only mark I see on it besides Sterling is a sun shaped object with an S in the middle. it is 3 1/4" long and 1 1/8" wide at the widest point. The bookmark is 2 5/8" long.
