You're bidding on"Our Family Doctor And General Receipt Book" By Henry S. Taylor, M.D. apparent first edition published 1869 by John E. Potter And Company, Philadelphia. Per the title page: A complete and reliable guide to the mysteries of health, of the art of good and inexpensive living and of household economy generally- With Illustrations" Nice Victorian-period piece, a look back to the days when the treatment for syphilis was mandrake root, apoplexy was a serious medical diagnosis, and it never hurt to try a little laudanum. The book has several nice engraved illustrations of plants suggested as remedies, and decorative Victorian headpiece illustrations at the start of each chapter. Condition of the book is overall good with some issues. Some soil to cover. But retains it's overall appeal with embossed Victorian ... moredesign. Some slight hinge cracking within the front endpapers, but cover still fully attached, although some slight looseness to the spine. Note that someone has written French translations of the sections in the table of contents. Otherwise, pages are clean with some slight age browning, but minimal foxing or spotting and no other marking. The trade cards vary in size, with large ones measuring about 4 ¾” by about 6 ¾” and others measuring about 4 ¾” by about 3 1/8” Some of the animals and reptiles in this album include moose. Deer, buffalo or bison, ... morerabbit, bats, turtle, lizard, snake, frogs, and more. This rare vintage cigarette trade card book is printed in lovely German text script lettering. I do not read or speak any German. And my translations are from research, and may not be correct. Some of the script lettering is also difficult for me to read, so I hope that the above information has the correct spellings, but I am not sure? This unusual antique collecting trade card album is in very good vintage used condition. With some staining, soil, yellowing, discoloration, and a minor crease and small tear here and there on the cover. There is a crease and tear on the back cover, and paper wear and tear on the side binding. There are some age stains, yellowing, discoloration and soil inside. The binding is good and tight, and there is some edge and corner wear. This animal trade card album has been packed away for a long time, and has a very slight musty odor. Note: Most of the cards are firmly attached inside the book. But a few have loose edges or corners, but are not falling out. PAIR Antique 19th Century GLASS VASE BOOK ENDS Girandole BRASS French
Such a wonderful recent estate sale find! Pair of mid 19th century vase book ends. These measure 12" tall and about 5" across. The base is 4" x 3 1/2" The bases are made of painted granite. There are some condition issuses. One of the glass vases has a rim chip and the other has a very small fleabite chip. The glass is old. Original and has small bubbles. There is some very light chipping to the front of one of the bases and there is paint loss. Please view all pics. I believe these book ends may be French in origin. They are truly lovely and unusual. No maker's mark. The glass is very delicate and these book ends will be wrapped and packaged with extreme care. Remarkable the very large majority of threes threads and sequins are still perfect. There are a couple of rays missing from the lower left side of the Eucharist depicted on one cover and a couple of leaves and the outside border of the cover with the Lamb of God. Some of the silver thread around the outside edge has come undone. Down the center of this cover is some wear to the silk. But overall the silk is still in very good, clean condition. After searching the internet looking at other 17 th and 16 th century embroidered book covers it’s easy to see that this cover is in very good unrestored condition. ANTIQUE LEATHERETTE DIME BOOK BANK CIRCA 1920`S FILLED WITH OLD MYSTERY COINS
This auction is for this ANTIQUE 1920`s RED LEATHERETTE BOOK BANK FILLED WITH UNKNOWN MYSTERY COINS. I will start this auction at the value of the coin book bank and let you. The bidders decide on the value of the unknown old coins that are inside of it. I do not have a key and do not want to damage the bank to find out what kind of coins are inside of it, so the winner takes all of the coins as well as the book bank as the day it was tucked away in the attic some 50 years ago by my father. This bank was given for free as a promotional savings bank by the Investors Syndicate that was founded back in 1894. Their claim to fame was that they had 50,000,000 dollars in assets back in the day. This bank was manufactured by the Zell Products company of New York, N.Y. I tried to pick the lock on this bank for about 15 minutes and tried numerous keys ... moreto open it with no luck on obtaining access to the interior of the book bank and examining the coins. I cannot tell what kind of coins this bank holds, but it does look like it is completely filled with old silver colored coins as I peered through the slot on the top of the bank with a flashlight. The coin slot on the top of the bank has four interior metal blocker plates that retain the coins inside from falling out and I cannot shake the coins out of the bank because of this same coin guard. I would probrably venture to guess that there are between(80 to 130) old coins in this book bank according to the weight of it when weighed. I also included a couple of pictures of what this bank weighs which is a whopping 617 grams. This antique book bank is in very good shape with just the slightest edge wear on some of the corners of the leatherette. It also has no weird smells and comes from a smoke free home. It also still retains three of its four original brass guards on the outer corners. A.M. 1826 William Channing Woodbridge(1794– 1845) was an American geographer. The author of many geography books, and an educational reformer. His father was a graduate of Yale. The first preceptor of Phillips Academy, and a minister who fought for educational change in Connecticut. His parents home-schooled him in Latin. Greek, Chemistry and Mathematics, and in June of 1808 Woodbridge entered Yale as the youngest of his freshman class. Inspired by Yale College’s president. Timothy Dwight IV, Woodbridge became interested in both the American landscape and the writing of geographies. While believing in reason. Former owner's name, placde and date(1846) on front free endpaper as pictured. The book measures 7 1/4" x 4 1/2" and has 262 pages. The book is illustrated with 150 anatomical engravings. This book has quite a story behind it. The author of this book has the distinction of writing one of the most unusual tombstone epitaphs. Dr. Calvin Cutter(1807– ... more1872) and his wife Caroline(1805– 1838) were staunch Baptists in Tennessee. Dr. Cutter underwrote the building of a new Baptist church; the minister embezzled the funds and Cutter was left holding the bag. When he attempted to bring the matter before the church. He knocked heads with“the Baptist Inquisition. The pastor and council refused him a public hearing. Proclaimed Cutter and his wife liars, and threw them out of the congregation. They have represented our characters as very bad. Cutter writes. They have made many slanderous nods. Shakes of the head, winks, and bold ascertains. Weakened by the attacks. Mrs. Cutter’s health failed and she died. In the added slip, Cutter presents the resolution passed at a“large meeting of the citizens of Nashua and Nashville” which unanimously declared that the Baptist church and society had acted immorally. The charges against the Baptist Church and Society are cheating. Lying, keeping false church records, condemning persons unheard. Destroying the character and life of Caroline H. Cutter.
