These shelves were previously owned by a retired judge for Mercer county. This vintage bookcase is in excellent condition- all shelves have the original glass(wavy from time) original knobs, and all labels are present. The metal side bands are all present and genuine with no rust, and have not had the original patina polished away as some have. The oak wood shows an all original finish with a wonderfully rich coloring- it has not been refinished, or retouched in any way. It has all of the qualities and markings that make it a most desirable piece. If you've been looking for an original antique barrister bookcase, you'll recognize this as a pristine example- you won't find anything better. Condition: Used Location: Ashland, United States Up for bid is a wonderful 6-stack Globe Wernicke lawyers or barristers bookcase made of quartersawn oak. All sections are the very desirable Grade 299(quarter ... moresawn/tiger oak with the medium finish) Has the very desirable ogee(curved) top and bottom. All sections are size D-10 1/4. Bookcase is ALL ORIGINAL. Original finish. Original wavy glass, original knobs on the doors. Bookcase is ALL COMPLETE. All labels are present and intact. All glass is present(no cracks or breaks) All felt along the tops of the doors is complete and intact. All scissors mechanisms are present. All acid-etched side bands are correct and present. I rescued over 20 sections from a storage room of an old Chicago school library, and these 6 sections were in the best condition. Condition of the sections is way above average for their age. After 100 years the finish on these cases has usually"alligatored" Not here. Although there are the usual scratches and chips in the finish, which is to be expected(there is a rub of white paint on the right side of one section shown in the photos) the outside finish is overall extremely smooth with a nice gloss. The very top has the most wear and scratches as the librarians slid and stacked items on top of the cases. There is also the reside from 2 old pieces of cellophane tape on the front of the top. I can find no delamination of the back panels, nor any bubbling of the veneer on the very top. Being in a library for so many years has preserved them nicely. Overall size of the bookcase is 84" tall x 34" wide x 12" deep. If you need more photos. Or have additional questions, please email me. Rare Antique Globe Wenricke 3/4 Barrister Lawyers Bookcase
Antique 3/4 Globe Wernicke barrister. This is a rare and desireable size. Has all bands around each section and all brass knobs. There is scissors in each section and rails inside so the doors all open nicely. 47 inches tall. 25 1/2 inches wide and 11 inches deep. Very nice clean finish. Some wear on top with veneer which I have photoed. These size bookcases are great for smaller spaces. This bookcase has 3 varying size sections. Back is in great shape. This is a beautiful bookcase. Rare Antique Gunn Double Barrister KNOCK DOWN Bookcase
This is an absolutely fantastic treasure! Made by Gunn. It features quartersawn oak, all original wavy glass in the doors and breaks down into 22 individual pieces. Two of the back pieces are replacements, a piece of trim needs to be repaired as pictured, and there is some moisture damage from where we had it sitting on the concrete pad in our garage. This set was actually in a Lawyer's office, just like you see it. Lycoming was a division of Globe Wernicke and I believe that these are all Lycoming sections. They will fit each other perfectly well, so you could add to your existing bookcase. This four section set measures 59 inches tall by 33 inches wide by 13 inches deep. The inside of the bookcase sections measure approximately 31 1/2 inches wide by 12 inches tall. The over all condition is pretty decent with some expected wear from age and use. I do see that one of the little brass knobs to open the one door is missing. All in all, this Barrister bookcase set was well cared for ... moreover the past 90 or so years. Bookcase includes a mantel and a base. There are 3 sections which the glass slides into the top. The only damage I can see is a piece of loose veneer. About 1" which can be reglued on the mantle. Very nice looking all original early 1900's Macey 3 stack barristers bookcase. This one is in very good condition with all original wavy glass and great looking tiger oak. Dimensions are 57H X 34W X 14 D. A few minor imperfections such as the hole thru the back of one of the units.It won't be noticeable when you put books in in though and a small chip of wood missing out of the corner of the bottom unit. For your consideration is a gorgeous. Quarter sawn, I believe tiger oak barrister or lawyer bookcase with a beautiful base. All original finish and glass. It maintains it's original brass side bands which have darkened with age. This piece has 3 sections which are larger than a lot of barristers, therefore this particular one can accommodate larger books. The first section will accommodate 12" in height books. The 2nd 9" and finally the 3rd will hold 11 1/2" in overall height books. Dates to the late 1800"s. We purchased this 25 years ago at a wonderful antique shop in rural Ohio. Crown and top shelf are made of oak and part of a separate set. The middle 4 stacks are made of Mahogany and stamped Hale's Interchangeable Bookcase, Herkimer NY. Antique Quarter Sawn Mission Oak Globe-Wernicke Barrister Stacking Bookcase
34" wide. 69" tall, 12" deep. Three 10" tall D-8 1/2 sections, Two 12" tall D- 10 1/4 sections base and top. This is a completley original barrister fully sanded and refinished. Original brass side straps and handles polished and clear coated so will not tarnish. All original wavy glass. Only flaw is a burn spot on top. I did not replace the veerner becuse wanted to keep the originial quarter sawn and can't see anyway due to height of bookcase. No shipping pick up only. Located 20 miles west of Kalamazoo Mi.
