It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two pieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. I live in Santa Cruz but delivery is possible anywhere in the San Francisco or Monterey bay areas(or nearby) if you cover my expenses or we negotiate it into the selling price. The secretary has a mirror, that is on the top at the right side and unbelievably gorgeous carved details and applied accents all throughout. It also has the original metal hardware, which is absolutely incredible and ornate as well. The front door of the secretary that would open down as a writing service has been broken off, and in half horizontally, however, the hinges are intact and it could easily be repaired. This door is 14" top to bottom, 20" wide. There is a lot of light staining and wear as well as scratches and dings to the finish.

The large upper cabinet has flexible. Movable ... moreshelves and period glass doors. It rests atop a cylinder or roll top desk area with a small drawer and several pigeon holes. The writing surface is covered in black felt and pulls out to provide a larger area. There is a large overhanging drawer as well as two smaller drawers and a cabinet below, for even more storage. All of the drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons and dovetail joints. The lower area is spoon carved in a charming leaf pattern. This piece most likely dates from the late 1800's. This piece is in good condition. But does have some cosmetic flaws, as is to be expected in a piece of this age. Several of the escutcheons are missing as well as the door pulls on the upper cabinet. The drawer pulls are loose as well and one of the escutcheons looks like it has been reattached. There is a piece of wood missing from the molding below the desk top as well. See picture) There is also significant wear to the felted writing surface. No other significant damage or repairs. The entire desk stands about 88" 7'4" tall. It is 36" wide and 24" deep at the largest points. This piece is listed for'local pickup only' We encourage buyers to stop by our 11.000 square foot shop to preview this amazing piece in person. This is a Beautiful Antique Secretary Writing Desk. Looks to be in Walnut excellent finish, very unique in that there are 7 Hidden Drawers aside from regular drawers. Desk has the Pigeon Hole Slots, Center Door with Carving beneath door that pulls out as a secret drawer. 4 small drawers on each side of center door, the 2 bottom drawers on end are shorter than top drawer and when pulled all the way out there is a wooden track that comes out with a wooden box attached! On either side of the center door each side sides open for 2 more secret drawers and above the pigeon slots the curved wood also on both sides open to secret drawers. Beautiful Antique Secretary Desk Honey Brown Roll Top Desk
Really beautiful desk that we got from an estate sale many years ago paid several hundred dollars for it at the time. It has remained unused and mostly for decorations for the last few years. The chair is a bit rickety and needs some screw tightening but we were able to use it without a problem when we needed to. The desk is in good shape everything needs a bit of oil in the joints but again we were able to use everything in the desk as is. The desk is structurally in perfect condition an absolute beauty and a gem. This handsome antique WALNUT portable Secretary's Box is both a highly collectible and very useful item. It was crafted circa 1880. The burnished wood case opens its doors to reveal a plethora of compartments that were used to organize the business person's work- pens. Seals, stamps, papers. Left drawer closed with metal pin insert. Bottom has drawer that opens. It has lock and key, though does not lock. It can still be used in business or home office in original capacity, or as objet d'art; there are many modern versions, most marketed as portable desk organizers. Old fashioned"secretary desk" Cabinet opens into a desk with storage compartments and there are three drawers below. Upper section has three shelves with a caged door for displaying books or decoroative objects. This piece is in fair condition and needs some repairs. The little door in the storage area needs reattachment. One metal arm is disconnected and so the retractable support for the desk on that side does not extend automatically. The wooden tip on the other retractable support needs to be re-glued on. There are some chips. And some discoloration. This piece is ideal for someone that likes to rebuild/refinish. Antique Secretary desk with ball and claw feet. Solid brass hardware, key locks on cabinet and secretary desk foldout. In the cubby holes, there are two hidden drawers that can be pulled out. It has ball and claw feet and the original pulls. Front inlaid cover and serpentine drawers, lattice work doors, fully intact, circa 1940's. In great shape. Has not been retouched or refinished, original patina and natural non-excessive wear and tear. Beautiful piece that we inherited, but just does not fit with our modern decor.
