You are viewing an antique caned rocking chair produced by none other than the very reputable S. K. Pierce& Son/Station A Gardner Mass: Numbered: 2199-3 Rich History of S. K. Pierce& Son: Founded: Begun in 1830 by Stephen Taylor as a chair shop. Soon after this. Mr. Taylor sold out to Jonas Pierce the 2nd and his brother Sylvester K. Pierce. Sylvester Pierce became sole owner soon after this. When Mr. Pierce died in 1888. His son Frank Pierce took control. Location: South Gardner Products: Chairs for chamber suites. Dining chairs, rockers with cane or cobbler seats, and screw and spring office chairs. Date closed: About 1937. Dims: Gardner Mass was once known as"chair city" As you can assume this antique has the typical normal use/ ware. However it was gently used over the many years of its existance so it is in really good ... moreshape considering its production date. I met with an antique dealer to question the value and production date of the seat cover that was placed over the caned seat. He dated it around 1915 and said that the cover(as seen in the picture) can be removed to repair the caning(that got loosened in one spot-also pictured) if you prefer that look instead. He also said the value was around $500. As explained above. The chair maker's company was EST. in 1830 and closed in 1937, but the seat cover is dated around 1915 so the chair's production essentially is dated between 1830 and 1915, so between 97 and 182 years old. I picked this lovely chair up at an estate sale in Palm Beach. I was told the chair belonged to the women's Grandmother. The chair did not fit into her home design so she was selling it. This chair was very well cared for as it is incredible condition for its age. There maybe a few very minor blemish in the wood. The rocker feet does have some stain missing from use. Nothing major. The fabric is not worn at all and is very clean. Please see photo's. As I'm not a collector of antique chairs I will describe the chair as I see it. It is stained in a natural color. The arms and legs are a turned spindle design. The back of the chair is a ladder back design. I do not know if this is the original ... morefabric, or if the chair was reupholstered. It looks original to me. The fabric looks to be a high grade. It is in the earth tone colors with red. Gold, orange and green. Included is an Antique Wooden Rocking Chair. It is very interesting looking. I'm not sure of the age but it looks quite old. The condition seems to be pretty solid. The finish appears to be original. The upholstery was usually inline woven carpeting which came in rolls about 27 inches wide(before wall-to-wall looms this carpeting was stitched together to fit an area) and quite flat. This Rocking Chair was made by my great grandfather approximately 100 years ago. I am amazed at how good of shape it is in. Its shape is outstanding. The reason I am selling it is I believe it should be used not stored away. I was left it when my father passed away. I have 6 cats that would destroy it. I wish I could keep it. This is a fantastic antique colonial rocking chair it came out of an estate in the Boston Nantucket area. The rush seat has been replaced. It is very sturdy and usable. The finish has a great patina see pics 4 and 5. The feature I enjoy the most is the spindle that supports the 2 arms run down to the rocker base. The auction is for an antique rocking chair. It has great patina to it. The seat is a blue needlepoint and it has a nice woven backrest. In terms of age I would say somewhere around the turn of the century but I am not certain on that. It looks as though the needlepoint cover may have been added at a later date. It looks to be either a child's chair or a sewing chair. The dimensions are tallest point approx. 29 inches. Seat height 10 inches, seat itself 12.5 inches by 13.5. The chair is not perfect but it is in very nice shape for its age. There is a couple of screws that appear to have been replaced over the year and the seat needlepoint shows a little browning from age. Check out the photos and feel free to ask any questions. Antique Cane Back Cloth Seat Rocking Chair
Very interesting old rocking chair. The octagon pattern woven back is in great shape and the cloth seat really gives it character. It appears to be made of cherry wood but I can't be 100% sure but a beautiful dark wood regardless. Pressed into the top is a beautiful rose and leaf pattern. The cloth seat is in good condition and held in place by a pretty ribbon material that is also in good shape. The seats on the chairs are stuffed and typically have some shifting or rolling of the padding but this one is well rounded and has held its original shape. Some of the thin material on the bottom has come loose but could easily be tacked into place. There is some splintering on the bottom of the front edge of the seat but not enough to compromise the integrity of the seat. A beautiful addition to a country decor. Charles Eastlake furniture was the brainchild of Charles Eastlake(1836-1906) A British furniture designer and architect. Eastlake style' as it is referred, is the common name for his style of furniture, which became widespread throughout the last half of the nineteenth century. This is an absolutely gorgeous platform rocker! Made of oak it also has burl oak inserts incorporated into the top of the back. The cloth seat and back are a tapestry style gold, green and pink oval design that really captures the era in which it was made. The seat and seat back have no balling of the cushions which you normally see on furniture of this age. The carvings on the back, arms, support and platform are exquisite. I believe this chair was made in the early 1900's. And I am not quite sure if this is the original paint. The paint appears too bright and flawless, but I will let interested individuals be the judge of that. Either way the paint design on the chair is absolutely beautiful. Here’s a cute little rocking chair. Pretty oak wood. I think this is quite old. It originally had a cushion spring type seat which was worn out. I replaced it with a solid seat. It needs a cushion to lay on the seat. The arms are a bit wobbly. They can be tightened up by removing the wooden plugs at the screw holes. The plugs are probably glued in so they won’t be savable when you dig or drill them out. You can buy replacement plugs cheap. Or you can leave the arms wobbly. They’re not really ready to fall off or anything. Just wanted you to know about them. The chair is 35 inches high. The seat is 15 inches high, 21 inches wide and 18 inches deep. Boston Rocker Antique/Vintage American Traditional Solid Wood Rocking Chair Good condition. Tight(see photos) Height to top of seat = 15 3/8 in. Total height = 40 3/16 in. Width(at widest part/arm rests) = 23 1/8 in. This is a 50's/60's era traditional Boston Rocker(which originated around the 1840's in New England) This iteration has the high back. Long spindles and thick seat associated with the classic Boston Rocker design. ANTIQUE Vintage 1880's Child's Toddler Wood Rocking Chair - Upholstered Seat
From a local estate sale comes this beautiful very old. 1880's, handmade wood antique child's rocking chair. Previously owned by my neighbor who is 92 years old, she tells me this was made by a German carpenter(name unknown) in Kansas City for her mother's 1st birthday! Wood(unknown what kind) is gorgeous and still has shine to it but not sure what to use to polish.so sold as is. Measures 28-1/2" at the floor base and 18" high. We can only imagine how many little ones throughout the years rocked away in this historical little chair. She also tells me that the upholstery was changed several times throughout the years.but can't remember when.
