20 GREAT EXAMPLES OF VINTAGE FURNITURE COVERINGS! WONDERFUL'BOOK' OF ANTIQUE/VINTAGE"SLUMBER CHAIR COVER SAMPLES" FABRIC- UPHOLSTERY- ... moreFURNITURE COVERING SAMPLES DATES FROM THE 1920S- WWII 20 SAMPLES FROM THE MAKERS OF THE STREIT SLUMBER CHAIR CINCINNATI. OH BASED UPON MY RESEARCH: The slumber chair was made by C. F. Streit Manufacturing Co. founded in 1871 in Cincinnati. OH. The"Slumber Chair" was made from the mid 1920's until World War II. I have included a lot of pictures because this sample book is in rough condition. It is VERY OLD& it's dirty! I have not attempted to clean it whatsoever. I will leave that up to the buyer. I think that the samples themselves could be cleaned up quite nicely with an upholstery cleaner. The metal binding& the staples that affix the little tags to each sample are rusty. Therefore there are rust marks/stains on the fabric throughout the book. Condition of samples: there are some rough spots, stains, and some of the outer stitching is coming apart on a few. The upper left of the black part that reads"Slumber Chair Cover Samples" is not there. Measures approximately 9 3/4" X 9 3/4" PLEASE REFER TO THE PICTURES AND ITEM DESCRIPTION& ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING. AS THERE ARE NO RETURNS. I HAVE 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK& I DESCRIBE MY ITEMS TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY. ITEM MUST BE PAID FOR WITHIN 3 DAYS OF THE END OF AUCTION OR ITEM WILL BE RELISTED. OHIO BIDDERS MUST PAY SALES TAX.

Up for sale today. I am offering a gorgeous antique wood carved chair. This is a very unique piece. Not only does it have beautiful ornate carvings throughout, ... morethere is a carving of a small girl on the top center of the chair. Her eyes have been outlined in gold, she is very haunting. Right not the back and seat are upholstered in red fabric, but one may desire to re-do the upholstery because it is not even. This chair was repainted a few years ago with a very dark brown finish. If you look closely you can see gold undertones. This chair is very old, it's been in my family for as long as I can remember. I was always afraid of the little girl, because at times I would swear her eyes were following me. This is a gorgeous chair, something you could surely design an entire room around. It is large, measuring at 47" tall x 21" wide x 19 1/2" deep. Due to the large size of this chair is is a local pick-up item only for Highland. IN, 46322. Please do not ask to ship, I will not ship. This is definitely worth the drive! Please see all pictures before you bid. If you have any questions. Feel free to ask! Powered by

Antique French Louis XV Walnut Open Armchair Fauteuil Circa 1770 Description: A fantastic French Louis XV period walnut open armchair or'fauteuil' ... moreCirca 1770 with period needlepoint upholstery. The chair is all pegged construction and the finish is original. The chair has two repairs under the arms where it meets the back. There are metal plates under each arm. Please see all photos. The needlepoint upholstery is 18th or early 19th century and is in fair condition. It probably needs to be replaced as it is quite fragile and tnere is some damage. It might be possible to restore it. It is so nice and would be a shame to lose it entirely. Note: there is another layer of upholstery under the needlepoint so it is probably not original to the chair. The chair is 35" high at the back by 24" wide at the front by 19" deep. and 17" from the floor to the seat height. Guaranteed to be as described. This authenticated antique desk and chair has hand carvings throughout the entire desk even including the back. There are 5 carved open compartments for organizing and a hidden drawer that opens the full length of the desk with 4 divided sections inside. The center disposal is the original period velvet sack with a hanging cord attached to a lovely ivory pearl stone set within a bronze circular ring with designs. A walnut wood weight is attached. Hand wood carvings include 2 beautiful ladies protruding from sides of desk and removable cupid on the top that is attached to the lid that covers the compartment where the clock sits. The clock has 3 different hand designs and incased in bronze. The face is a natural cream ivory? porcelain with black Roman numerals. The face is aged with some hairlines but the numerals are bold without any color loss. The clock has 2 front legs and a weighted bronze pendulum that you can view from the photo. It does move side to side and I hear ticking but is in need of adjusting. The clock is original and fits perfect to view from a circular opening made for it within the desk. This all original desk is in very good condition without repairs. It is hard to believe there are only two tips missing from the delicate finials. Located on left side underneath the desk and on the right side bottom between the legs. You will need to really search in the pictures because they are very hard to find. It is very rare to find a set. How fortunate to have this elaborate matching chair with velvet padded seat in such wonderful condition. The carvings are amazing and please view the lion and the Fiorentino symbol on the back of the chair. In my 30 years of experience I have never seen a desk set like this. Scumble / Scumbling - reproduction or repair of antiques wood furniture - 50g
Scumble Crystals 50g Bag(25 grams will make about a Litre of solution) Just add water! As used by the Antiques trade to create a naturally aged/ weathered effect on wood. Also works on Bone, Horn and Ivory. The technique is commonly called in the trade"Scumbling" S imply mix the Scumble crystals with water and brush on the wood and the wood does the rest! Scumbling is the effect of the reaction with the natural tannin found in wood. This reaction/ effect will look naturally old, and can range in colour from light to dark grey to a natural blue tone. The results created on wood will vary. Because this is not an exact science! wood is natural and results depend on many variable factors: for example, the strength of dilution used or the number of coats applied, the type of wood(Oak, Mahogany, Walnut, Pine etc) the part of the tree ... morefrom which the wood was cut from( heart or sap wood) the dryness and also time all play a role. The finish created by scumbling is not like using wood dye which is even and uniform in colour. Scumbling makes wood look naturaly old. The results speak for themself when experts struggle to identify the difference, hence why its used by Antique restorers, French polishers and reproduction furniture makers to make or repair furniture. The Scumble effect works best on wood with a high tannin content, like Oak, Mahogany, Walnut, Cherry etc, but it is also commonly used on new Pine to make Pine look like Oak. To use: as a guide. Add about a level teaspoonfull of Scrumble to about ½ pint of water and stir. This percentage can be made stronger or weaker to produce lighter or darker shades if required. The scrumble is normally applied using a brush, but wood can also be dipped. The colour cannot always be instantly judged, because the scumble is being absorbed into the wood and it reacts with the tannin and the air for a further 24– 48 hours and reacts until it is fully dry, then the wood can be either left unfinished, or varnished, oiled or wax polished etc. It is important that the w

1929 GIRL SCOUTS LOAN EXHIBITION OF AMERICAN FURNITURE GLASS PAINTINGS ANTIQUES
Loan Exhibition of Eighteenth Century and Early Nineteenth Century Furniture& Glass. Portraits by Stuart. Peale and others, for the Benefit of the National Council of Girl Scouts, Inc. Published in New York by American Art Galleries in 1929. DISCUSSION: The importance of the Girl Scouts Loan Exhibition cannot be overstated. Although sometimes it seems it has become something of a cliché. Simply put, it was the most important and richest loan exhibition of American antique furniture and other decorative arts ever staged to be drawn in large part from private collections; although it did not start the popularization of American antiques, it contributed largely to its continued success and gave both scholars and collectors new focus; it brought a large number of prominent dealers and collectors together in a way which had not been accomplished ... moresince the Hudson-Fulton exhibition of 1909; it provided the first broad popular showing of American Federal-period antiques; finally, it inspired an enthusiasm which gave impetus to new books, catalogs and research. The Girl Scout Exhibition is seen by many as the starting point for all serious modern scholarship in the fields of American decorative arts. The catalog features illustrations of fine furniture, textiles, glass, ceramics and paintings, drawn from notable collections from across the country. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 8"x11" 926 items, hundreds of black& white illustrations. CONDITION NOTES: Newly bound into hardcovers with most of the original front cover bound in. Minor wear. The American furniture falls into what Leslie Hyam, in his introduction to the catalogs, terms the"decisive hundred years" 1730-1830. AMERICAN 17th CENTURY FURNITURE -NUTTING 1921 Classic Pilgrim Century Antiques
Furniture of the Pilgrim Century 1620-1720. Including colonial utensils and hardware” By Wallace Nutting. Published in Boston by Marshall Jones Company in 1921. DISCUSSION: The first book published on the subject of American 17th century furniture. Like all Nutting books. Caution is required in figuring out where the good examples end and the restored or re-manufactured examples begin. This book was beset by controversy almost from the start, as within a year a broadside was circulated by an ironworker stating that he had made many of the examples of ironwork illustrated by Nutting. Still, as with other Nutting books, the sheer volume of furniture illustrated, as well as the important place these volumes have occupied in the literature for over three-quarters of a century, make them worth having. Early Connecticut Artists& Craftsmen” By Frederic Fairchild Sherman. Published in New York; Privately Printed in 1925. Edition limited to 325 copies. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: Interesting as an early compilation of decorative arts craftsmen by a noted collector/author. It seem unlikely the reader will find new information here-most of the names were culled from other early sources. The silversmith listings. For instance, are based on Curtis' book, the artists come from French. But as a compilation it retains an interest and charm, especially as you look at the categories Sherman chose-architects, silversmiths, clockmakers, cabinetmakers, potters and pewterers are all here, but so are comb makers, painters of ship pictures, silhouette cutters and ship builders. The illustrations are also charming, and include ... morea 17th century Hartford chest, and an 18th century"kissing mirror" with cut-out hearts. Frederic Fairchild Sherman(1874-1940) was a poet. ANTIQUE FRENCH 18th CENTURY FURNITURE & ANTIQUES - Ortiz-Patino Collection
A Fine Vintage Auction Catalog- The Jaime Ortiz-Patino Collection of French Furniture and Decorations" The catalog to an auction sale held in New York by Sotheby’s on May 20. 1992. DISCUSSION: A legendary collection. Filled with superlatives and material that makes the word“superlative” seem dull and insufficient. It was rich in 18th century decorations, including ormolu-mounted Chinese vases, gilt lamps& mirrors, Sevres porcelains, bronzes and other very fine objects. There were also the finest examples of the French cabinetmaker’s art, many pieces of which are illustrated here in folding color plates. The furniture include many signed examples, and many with gilt mountings and fine marquetry work. PARNHAM PARK- ANTIQUE ENGLISH FURNITURE, TEXTILES, SILVER & ANTIQUES -Christie's
An Interesting Auction Catalog- Parham Park. Pulborough, West Sussex. Selected Furniture, Works of Art, Silver, Textiles, Costume, Linen, European Porcelain and Glass” The catalog to an auction held in London by Christie's on May 13-14. 1996. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: A selection of very fine antiques- superb English furniture. Silver and ceramics, and an extraordinary assortment of antique linens& textiles. Parham Park is an Elizabethan house in Cootham. Between Storrington and Pulborough, West Sussex, South East England, originally owned by the Monastery of Westminster and granted to Robert Palmer by King Henry VIII in 1540. The foundation stone was laid in 1577 by the two year old Thomas Palmer, and Parham has been a family home ever since. Thomas Bishopp(later Sir Thomas Bishopp, 1st Baronet) bought ... moreParham House in 1597. For 325 years his descendants continued to live at Parham House Estate until January 1922. Then in 1922 the Hon. Clive Pearson, younger son of Viscount Cowdray, bought Parham from Mary, 17th Baroness Zouche in her own right, and he and his wife Alicia opened the house to visitors in 1948, after the Second World War when it had also been home to evacuee children and Canadian soldiers. Off the Long Gallery at the top of the house there is a fascinating exhibition which touches on the period between 1922 and 1948, with many family photographs as well as photographs of the building works which took place during that time. Mr and Mrs Pearson, followed by their daughter Veronica Tritton, spent more than 60 years carefully restoring Parham and filling it with a sensitively chosen collection of beautiful old furniture, paintings and textiles, also acquiring items originally in the house. There is a particularly important collection of early needlework. What they created at Parham is a rare survival of mid 20th Century connoisseurship within a major Elizabethan house. Now owned by a charitable trust, Parham House and Gardens are surrounded by some 875 acres(3.54

ANTIQUE AMERICAN FURNITURE, SILVER, TEXTILES, ANTIQUES -STANLEY SAX COLLECTION
An Interesting Auction Catalog- Highly Important Americana from the Stanley Paul Sax Collection” The catalog to an auction held in New York by Sotheby's on January 16-17th. 1998. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: The auction of the superlative collection of this well-known and discerning collector of fine American furniture. Silver and related antiques including textiles, portrait miniatures, clocks and prints. The catalog includes an appreciation of Sax by Wendell Garrett, from which we quote several passages- Modest. Unpretentious, and studious, Stan Sax was good company. To the collecting of American antiques he brought an insatiable curiosity, a pursuit of thoroughness and excellence, and an unquenchable thirst for new intellectual adventures. He was the paragon of a collector- a self of unlimited dimensions; a ... morehugely talented, searching, contemplative, daring, visionary, understanding connoisseur-a gentle personality that inspired friendship and a character that justified confidence. He was taken from us at seventy-one, in the prime of his seniority; it hurts to think of what he would have done with more time, but it also helps to remember how fully he used the time he had. He was an expert authority and passionate collector of high-style American furniture and silver who valued things of beauty with which he surrounded himself, whether books, paintings, or other decorative arts. He had that primary personal attribute for the connoisseur of decorative arts which Charles Montgomery termed, a good visual memory stored with an infinite number of images of ordinary, fine, and superior objects mentally pigeonholed for desirability' Stan was a generous benefactor of gifts to the Diplomatic Reception Rooms of the United States Department of State and the Detroit institute of Arts, and was active in the affairs of the Baltimore Museum of Art, The Henry Ford Museum, and the Friends of the American Wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Linens, books, etc. A March 31, 1991 New York Times story reported- Members of an 18th-century family in Windham, Ebenezer Devotion, a judge of the county court; his wife, Eunice; his parents; his four children, and other relatives, are the subjects of an exhibition at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum, 625 Williams Street in New London. The family portraits in the exhibition were the first important commission for a 20-year-old painter named Winthrop Chandler. Among them is one of Ebenezer's father, a minister and member of the state legislature. The family had a distinguished history. Ebenezer's sister married Samuel Huntington, who became Governor of Connecticut. Ebenezer himself was a member of the Sons of Liberty. He made his fortune as a merchant, trading in rum, molasses, sugar, and food for the American Army during the Revolutionary War. The exhibition contains his ledgers, which detail his sales and purchases. The personal possessions- including beds, desks, chairs, tables, silver, clothing and portraits- indicate the family's high status in the community. Letters exchanged among Ebenezer's children as they went off to pursue careers and marriages provide intimate glimpses into their relationships. The furnishings at‘Rosemary’ the snuff boxes and ivory miniatures, the sporting prints and tinkling wine glasses- had an aura all their own” That was a good thing for Hiram Parke and Otto Bernet. Because just a short time before the death of Jay Carlisle they had, with about 40 loyal employees, walked out of the American Art Association-Anderson Galleries after a power struggle with its owners, and set up on their own in borrowed rooms. Mortgaging homes and life insurance policies, borrowing from former clients and fellow dealers and throwing in their life savings, the small group needed a magnificent event for their first sale- It was clear” Towner relates, that Providence had dispatched the Carlisle’s for Parke’s convenience, and just in the nick of time.
