It had evolved to the point that the legs were shaped in the cabriole form of the Rococo Revival. And related in this way with the curvature of the back. When the chair began in the 1830s. However, as illustrated in J.C. Loudon's Encyclopaedia of Cottage, Farm, and Villa Architecture and Furniture(London, 1833-39) the front legs were straight, although the back ones curved out(below) No stretchers were felt to be necessary. Just doesn't match my decor anymore. There are knicks and scratches typical of something this age. There is an area where my dog chewed on it a few times when she was a puppy. Restaining this would hide most of the blemishes. The top is in very nice condition without any deep scratches. Most of the knicks are at the bottom of the legs. Near the feet. It is fairly sturdy. THE BACK IS ABOUT 34" TALL AND ABOUT 17" AT IT'S WIDEST AT THE TOP. THE SEAT FRAME IS ABOUT 14" TALL AND IS ABOUT 18" ACROSS THE FRONT. THE SPRINGS ARE ANOTHER 2" ON TOP OF THAT. Antique High Back Piano Chair/Stool, Dark Wood Tone, Claw Feet with Glass Ball
This Vintage Piano Chair/Stool was found at an estate sale and is in very Good Condition. I believe the wood is Mahogany but not quite sure. At any rate the wood is solid. It has a round adjustable swivel seat that adjusts the height from approximately 20 1/2" to 24 1/2" The 14 1/2" diameter seat has a slight surface crack that actually adds to its Patina. The seat mechanism is very sturdy with a 3/4" threaded post. There is a small piece missing in the post mount(photo 12) which in no way hinders its operation. The markings on the Post Mount are W Holtzman& Sons Colum Buso. The Turnings on the back spindles and legs of this chair are superb, as is the curved top back rest with its intricate detailed design(photo 6) the chair back is fixed and does not swivel. The Glass Ball Feet are in good condition, but could use ... morea cleaning. The overall approximate dimensions of the chair are 15"W X 16"D X 37 3/4"H This Beautiful chair would make a great addition to someone's Piano. Or a very nice Accent Piece anywhere in the house. Vintage child's chair dark wood
Preowned used as decor in my home there may be a couple of screws that are not be original to chair but I am sure someone on ebay may have screws for that time period if you wish to replace. Because of its age their are some cracks that were filled in with wood filler very very slight wobble very slight. The great thing about vintage wood furniture is that it is made out of real wood not like most furniture items made in this day and age.
