Vintage industrial desk lamp. Features metal articulating arms. Cast iron joints, a vintage cast base, an aged brass lamp shade, and three antique cast iron valve handles. The shade, base and handles have a wonderful patina. Wiring is brand new reproduction brown twisted cloth cord and a new antique style plug. Everything works perfectly and safely. The brass socket and turn key have an oil-rubbed bronze finish. The base is a heavy cast iron. Three separate joints enable the lamp to be positioned in a wide variety of ways. The handles at all three joints make re-positioning easier. The valve handles can easily be switched to the opposite side if preferred. I can do that for the winning bidder if requested. This is a wonderful looking 1940's or 50's well made accent or student/ table lamp. It is brass and hand painted glass. The art is of a floral design around the glass. The hurricane or upper portion of lamp is missing but could be replaced. The lamp is around 9" tall and 5 1/4" wide it has the vintage key switch to turn on and off and its vintage receptacle cord. The metal parts look like they are maybe bronze and have a greenish patina look to them. But I can't be sure. The long part in the center is made of metal and does have a paint chip, as pictured. The base is covered in leather, which shows some wear. The covering over the wiring is gone. The lamp shade is solid with no dents, however, there is some small spots on it, as pictured. The porcelain lamp is in near pristine condition and the only flaws I can find are a couple of areas of almost microscopic paint loss on the gold gilt"handles" The base appears to be brass with heavy patina at first glance but I think it may be made of iron or some other heavy metal. The lamp works and has what appears to be the original cloth covered wire which is in good condition. The plug is Leviton and is. I believe, Bakelite. The bulb receptacle, made by Eagle, appears to be a replacement. The harp is missing and there is no shade. It stands about 13-1/2" high to the top of the bulb receptacle and about 6" wide at the widest point. This would be lovely in shabby. For your consideration is a ultra rare brass FARIES dual arm desk lamp. The weighted base is 5 1/2" in diameter and the lamp stands 22" tall. The 13" arms extend out to a total of 32" wide including the shades. The arms can be adjusted in height. Width as well as pivot with the shades 360 degrees, should you like. The antique milk glass shades are free of chips or cracks but do have straw marks from the manufacturing process. The matching brass paddle switch sockets are marked"circle F 250W 250V PAT JULY 6, 1909" and accept standard base bulbs(bulbs not included) The lamp has been rewired with 18 gauge cloth covered wiring and an old fashioned two prong plugs. You cannot find this company's lights in the U.S. It is stamped on the bottom with the HoNSEL logo and name(see photo) Original lamps go for thousands of dollars at the BIG auction's house(you know which one! The wiring may have been replaced but that is also vintage as you can see from the pictures. The tree shaped base is cast metal- very heavy, maybe bronze? Bronze colored, for sure. It was made by the HoNSEL Lighting Company whose affiliations date back to 1919. Info on the name HoNSEL: The New Honsel of 1919-1929 was a workshop of decorative artist ... moreHendrik Cornelis Hérens(1893-1934) that made stained glass lamps. Hendrikk Hérens was born on December 4. 1893 in Amsterdam. He took a course in drawing at the Academy of Art in The Hague and then was an assistant to the restoration of the stained glass windows of St. John's Church in Gouda. In 1919 he started his own studio in Honselersdijk(Netherlands) where he made stained and leaded-glass windows. The workshop was called The Honsel. And later The New Honsel. His first lamps were faithful decorations. But gradually he went on to the expressionist Amsterdam School style. He designed lamps for major clients such as De Bijenkorf and cinema Tuschinsky. 1] He also made for individuals lamps in the Tuschinsky style. There is metal damage where a whole has opened up- as was poined out to me by a fellow Art Deco fan. Pretty certain there was another nude female statuette to match the one that remains. Green glass globe looks amazing as does beautiful nude statuette. I am confident this is a light/lamp that would sit on a table or desk. This is 12" long and approximately 7.5" tall. Very rare piece here- probably can be patched by somebody who knows there way around metal work. Or if you come into a similar art deco statuette to match this one. Looks amazing as is.
