Antique Vintage Solid Wood Columns Exterior Weathered Pair 90"
Local p ickup is pref erred. I can also deliver with in 500 miles of 08505(NJ) for $1/mile. Please inquire about a delivery estimate before purchase. Here is a pair of big old solid wood columns(not hollow) They are w eathered but in decent conditi on overall. The bases show some rot. As these were stored outdoors for some time. I am leaving the bases attached for the listing. Since some folks may be i nclined to reb uild them; it app ears that these are all one piece. So the base is the same piece of wood as the co lumn. In order to remove them they wou ld need to be cut off. These columns are big and heavy. Probably about 200 pounds each. There are c racks and checks on them. But no major damage. Some of the tips of t he radius details have broke off. It looks like these were small pieces that were added to complete the curve(see pics) ... morethat have since fallen off. There is a little bit of paint on them but not much. I'm not sure what type of wood these are made of. These would make a great starting poi nt for a substantial pergola or archway. Or with a bit of repair these could be used on a porch. Dimensions are: base dimensions are 12-12 1/2" square(not consistently the same) top and bottom trim detail diameters are approx. 12" columns taper from 10" diameter at bottom to approx. 9" diameter at top-columns alone(excluding the bases) are approx. 90 1/4" tall Thanks for lookin g. They were originally porch columns at one time that have been cut down. The posts are 59" high with 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" square tops and 4 5/8" x 4 5/8" bottoms. The center section of the posts have a turned and shapely design. There is some old termite damage from the past. This occurred prior to the posts being stripped. Description This is a great piece that was salvaged from adjoining Pittsburgh Victorian home. They are made of oak and are currently painted. The original finials are in tact. They have Eastlake Spoon Carvings below the the finials. The top has carved oak leaf and acorn panels on three sides. There are ornate carved moldings above and below the panels. The shafts are fluted with turned 1/4 round columns at the corners. They are notched for the step. Your bid buys the pair. They are beautifully executed in solid heavy wrought iron with several layers of original paint. They measure 46" tall when in the ground. 69" total length. Diameter is 8" at the widest point. There's a 2-1/2" movable iron ring resting on a large carved oval orb. The columns are nicely carved with acanthus leaf design. The lower bases are intact. In very good to excellent condition. They are painted white and have a chippy patina. 2 soild ~4 sided pieces. Photos 1- 7 show the full piece columns. 8-12 show the 1/2 columns. The second photo shows how I have used a pair in my home. I added hang hood and heavy wire to the back of the columns. I then added a heavy photo hook to my wall, then I hung the columns to the wall. They each have some damage to the bottoms. Pair Amazing Antique Galvanized Steel Cast Iron Tapered Fluted Doric Columns
Rare antique pair of steel and cast iron classical columns. The bases and capitals are heavy walled cast iron and the shafts are(looks like galvanized) steel.A nice heavy gauge that looks like 12 or 14 gauge. No cracks to the cast iron. The fluted shafts are very rigid and there are no apparent dents or dings,though many layers of paint exist. It would take a real sharp blow to dent these. As strong as they are,I would not consider them to be load bearing on their own, though they would hold quite a bit of weight.A 6 x 6 or a 4 x 4 wood post was probably used as a bearing post.For what they are,the condition is excellent,with no rot, rust-through or bends. I would classify any rust as surface rust.The bases and capitals fit snuggly. They measure 93-1/4" tall each.Including the base and capital.The base measure 13-1/2" square and ... morethe capitals are 10-1/2" square. These are also tapered.The shaft being 10" in diameter at the bottom and 8" at the top.This does not get picked up in photos-they appear straight. But in person,they are noticably tapered, required a trapazoidal blank of sheet steel and some pretty trick machinery. Perfect for decorative interior columns in spaces with an 8ft ceiling. If the paint were stripped,these would look incredible. Pick up from Montclair.N.J. due to weight and size. Some pain and stripper remains. There are nice carved capitals at the top. The shafts are fluted and tapered. The bases have great carved acanthus leaves. There are bun feet at the bottom. Your bid buys the pair. They are 38.25 tall. The capitals are 7 inches across and the bases are 5.75 in diameter. Overall. They are in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as they are antique. They could use a good washing but will clean up nicely. There are no carvings on the back sides. Please look at the pictures carefully. This auction is for one pair of drop-dead gorgeous Victorian White Oak Fluted and Tapered Columns. Typically these would have been found on the upper deck of a fireplace mantle. Separated by a beveled glass mirror(see last photo- this mantle is for reference only and is NOT included in the auction) These columns measure 22-1/4" high overall with 5" diameter at the base. Detailed dimensions as follows(please feel free to ask if I'm not clear about a measurement) base 5" x 5" x 5/8" one only) plinth 1-1/8"H overall(1-1/16" 7/16" plinth lower 5.093"D(16" circumference) plinth upper 4.456"D(10" circumference) cap lower 3.661"D(11-1/2" circumference) cap upper 3.263"D(10-1/4" circumference) cap ring 5/16" column 22-1/4"H overall. flutes 20"H. flutes ... more3.183"D(10" circumference) at top. flutes 3.819"D(12" circumference) at base. flutes 3/16"W x 5/16" between. The columns come in their original finish and patina. Not molested(re-touched or re-finished) in any way. I believe it is shellac(becomes slightly tacky when tested with denatured alcohol) The finish is finely crazed(crackled) in the flutes. There is the occasional small bruise. Most often on the base plinth. There is also one very thin shrinkage/glue crack on each column, running parallel with the flutes. I wouldn't have known they were there, except the finish has slightly darkened and dulled along these cracks. One plinth base is missing, but this could be easily duplicated. Since I've not removed the caps or plinths. I'm not sure whether these columns are solid or hollow. The shrinkage cracks might suggest hollow, whereas the weight(about 6lbs each) suggests solid. You are bidding on a pair of antique Cast Iron Hitching Post/ Horse Tie. The pair are in the shape of an acorn. There is one ring on each post. Each Post is signed with"J C" by one of the holes and"B" by another hole. Each Post measures approximately 9 1/4" tall to the top of the point. The ring measures approximately 2 5/8" across. One of the rings is not round. You can see it in the photos, both are soldered rings. The bottom of the post measures approximately 5" across and the inside measures approximately 4 7/16" across. This is a wide post. There are three holes around the outside of the post so it can be secured to a wooden post, the three holes a recessed. These are not reproductions. Overall they are in good condition. There are chips at the top and bottom where the nails were attached. One side is finished and the other side that was facing in is somewhat unfinished. These are some older antique wooden columns from my house. I'm not sure of how old they are but the house of origin is 1909. There is some minor scuffs. One of the tops has a little bare wood showing(as shown in pictures) They measure 5 feet 4-3/4" tall with bases that are about 8"x8" I am not able to ship or deliver these. These were a recent acquisition from the estate of an interior designer in Pacific Palisades. These sat astride the entrance to a veranda and would equally suit an entrance hallway or living room. PAIR OF ANTIQUE VICTORIAN OAK COLUMNS w/ SHELVES
This is a pair of solid oak posts with shelves salvaged from a Victorian sideboard top. They each measure aprox. 23 1/4" high x 2 3/4" in diameter on top and bottom and the shelves are 7 1/2" wide x 6 3/4" deep. Other than some wear to the finish they are in good condition. Shipping by Fed Ex ground to the lower 48 states would be 15.80 including insurance. We will gladly combine lots whenever possible to save on shipping costs.
