A superb antique Hinks's No2 Duplex oil lamp burner. Dating from the late 19th century. The rise and fall burner has a bayonet type fitting and a ceramic end to the winder which reads"Hinks's No2 Duplex. Benetfink& Co" Benetfink& Co were a large retailer in London from 1845 to 1907. There is a small split to the chimney holder. See photo, otherwise all in good working antique condition. This superb burner made by the famous Hinks company would look great on any antique oil lamp. A rare size diminutive all original blown glass lamp with single tall brass burner. Threaded base, pewter cap and what appears to be the original woven wick! The chain that attaches to the cap is missing and the cap has a small crack at the bottom side. Otherwise the lamp is in fantastic condition! These small single burner whale oil lamps were called sparking lamps because they were used when a gentleman suitor visited a favorite female. The parents would light the small lamp and when it went out. So did the gentleman visitor! No overnight ... moreor extended stays back then. The lamp is in excellent aged condition with a missing chain and cracked cap the only distractions. The body of the lamp is made of thick and heavy blown glass with a thick solid glass flared base. On the base are what look like two very old museum tags or labels. Dimensions: 3 3/4" tall to top of burner. Burner is 1 5/16" long. Thick flared solid glass base diameter is 1 7/8" Another fine example of early American lighting c1830 offered with no reserve and free shipping in the USA! Cut Glass Oil Lamp Font A very High quality oil lamp indeed. A reeded stepped copper. Brass and china base houses a particularly good triple cut faceted glass font in perfect condition. The font is fitted with a classic hinks/messengers bayonet fitting collar which houses a very good hinks no2 Duplex rise and fall burner. The lamp is finished with an original victorian acid etched reeded globular shade. The overall height of the oil lamp including the chimney is 65cm 25 1/2 inches tall. The shade is just over 18cm tall and 20cm 8 inches wide. The diameter of the font is 17cm just shy of 7 inches. Postage UK £10. Europe £30, USA and Canada £45. GOOD QUALITY GLASS OIL LAMP FONT & HINKS BURNER
Description On offer here is an antique Victorian cut glass oil lamp font with brass Hinks burner.The font is very elegant and very well cut. The burner has a clever mechanism that was out of position when I photographed it but since then I have managed to work it out and it has a rise up and down motion. The brass burner has originally been silver plated but a percentage of the plate has now worn off. The glass font is 6.5 inches wide, the actual screw thread for the lamp base measures approx. 20- 22 mm's. It is in very good condition. There are no cracks or chips to the glass. Thanks for looking. It consists on a brass pillar base(not Corinthian as there are no scrolls or decoration to top) marked to the base"J Hinks& Son" and"1781" The base is made with a thick gauge brass as can be seen in the pictures below. The best English cut glass font(hinks ref 192) is made with thick walls measuring nearly 1cm in thickness. The Hinks number 2 burner has a wheeled gallery raiser to allow easy lighting. A good heavy Victorian Oil Lamp. The lamp is complete. In working order and has been lightly cleaned to show its beauty but to preserve the antique element. It stands 13” 33cm tall. It is all original. There is no damage. Only the odd minor insignificant ding and split in the brass as would be expected of a genuine antique piece and commensurate with age. The stem is brass. This lovely miniature oil lamp has beautiful coloration in the glass that shades from dark red to amber. The Early American Pattern Glass(EAPG) design is called"Daisy& Cube" A design which was popular in the late 1800's. The glass is in mint condition with no chips. Cracks or repairs. All parts are present and appear to be original to this lamp. Lamp is pictured as figure 482 on page 200 in the book"Miniature Lamps" by Frank& Ruth Smith. M easures 9 1/4" high at globe. 8" high to top of cup with a top diameter of 3 5/16" and the base is 3" in diameter. Weighs 1.4 pounds.
