Antique 1850's Cobalt Blue & Crystal Whale Oil Lamp New England
Whale Oil Lamp 1850's New England A nice antique whale oil lamp with cobalt blue base and crystal. The lamp is in nice condition and measures 8 1/2 inches in height with a 4 5/8 inch diameter base. The opening at the top of the lamp measures 1 1/4 inches outside diameter. The condition appears to be very nice with no chips or cracks. The only area of notice is the base.where the cobalt and crystal meet.there is cloudiness on the interior.may be a result of the application of the base to the top. This is an estate purchase from a noted collector. I would doubt the piece has ever been repaired.but I am not certain. There was a paper inside the lamp when purchased.it is pictured but states the lamp is 1850's or earlier with a drop burner style probably made in Boston and the etching done by copper wheel engraving. Antique Brass Whale Oil Tall Lamp - Original Patina - Circa 1850's
Here is a wonderful circa 1850's tall brass 3-burner whale oil lamp with its original dark patina. It measures 25 1/2" tall x 6 1/4" wide at base. It is in all original condition with a crack in the brass to the lid of the burner(see pictures) It has one loose candle snuffer that was found inside. This one has a very nice scalloped chippendale style base which is more unusual. The stem is a bit bent. But this could be fixed. Pictures should tell the story. Description VINTAGE MINIATURE BRASS OIL LAMP Interesting and unusual vintage solid brass oil lamp measuring only 3-1/4" tall. Featuring a small can shape with removable lid. Tiny ball finial. Attached hanging ring, angled w ick arm. Sturdy colum n with solid tiered foot- base is flat so it can rest against a wall. But will also stand independently. Stamped MADE IN HOLLAND on the base. Condition is good with lots of age related wear. Discoloration, and general soiling in all the joints- interior is clear. But has a bit of surface verdig ris- ha n ger is canted a bit, but I think that is by design. Not damage. Lid removes and lamp can be unscrewed via the column and the holder. I'm uncertain of the original intent. But g uessing some type of oil lamp- it has been used. Heavy. A rare size diminutive all original blown glass lamp with single tall brass burner. Threaded base, pewter cap and what appears to be the original woven wick! The chain that attaches to the cap is missing and the cap has a small crack at the bottom side. Otherwise the lamp is in fantastic condition! These small single burner whale oil lamps were called sparking lamps because they were used when a gentleman suitor visited a favorite female. The parents would light the small lamp and when it went out. So did the gentleman visitor! No overnight ... moreor extended stays back then. The lamp is in excellent aged condition with a missing chain and cracked cap the only distractions. The body of the lamp is made of thick and heavy blown glass with a thick solid glass flared base. On the base are what look like two very old museum tags or labels. Dimensions: 3 3/4" tall to top of burner. Burner is 1 5/16" long. Her lamp remains ready to be used. It has bubbles and seams in the glass indicating that it was blown into a mold. Above the glass foot are many stars and ovals impressed into the glass in a wonderful design to the round body of the piece. This beautiful lamp measures almost 5 inches in diameter and stands 13 ½ inches tall. Get a glimpse of this beautiful antique whale/fish oil lamp. This lamp might be one of a kind! If not. It's extremely rare in the lighting circuit. There are many similar, but very few have the entire fish/whale body with the mouth that opens up. That's right! The mouth on this big fish opens right up. This a wonderful antique Sandwich Glass whale oil lamp. Glass has a beautiful puffy design and appears to be early- there are no markings to indicate the manufacturer. Lamp measures 8 1/4" tall. Base measures 6" across. Glass glows neon green under black light so probably does contain uranium(lovely) It is in very good condition with some flea bites around font edge where the ring sits(so they won't show when ring is replaced) and around edges of base(typical flea bites- nothing that is seen without looking closely) and one approx. 1/8 chip in base(again, not readily noticeable) I will be listing several more whale oil lamps so please keep checking my listings if you are interested, I will gladly combine shipping. Pink whale oil lamp -flint glass
These lovely lamps were early 20th century reproductions of the original 1840's lamps and were made just as well in quality but with more colors. This delicate shade of pink is one of the nicest. The glass is lead crystal and the heavy quality of the thing is apparent when you pick it up. This may be fitted with kerosene or oil burners which screw into the existing collar. And with wick scissors This has the feel of a Baroque lamp. But is, in all likeliness a late 19th century piece. The place of origin might well be Poland. Brass is an alloy made of copper and zinc; the proportions of zinc and copper can be varied to create a range of brasses with varying properties. And different colour tonalities. Rare Antique Vintage Green Pressed Glass Whale Oil Lamp The bottom has the letters"H VE" Comes as shown in the photos. I do not know a lot about this lamp. It comes in 2 pieces and is connected at the center. There is a removable plastic piece that helps connect the top and bottom. I dont know if this is original to the lamp or it was something that was added at a later time. The inside is hollow from the top piece all the way to the bottom piece. Missing a top burner.if it ever had one. See photos of the top. Excellent condition- no chips or cracks. Great looking item. wish i knew more about it.
