THE GLASS IS SWIRL AND PAINTED PINK FROM THE INSIDE WITH HAND PAINTED SMALL FLOWERS ON THE OUTSIDE. THE BASE IS MARBLE WITH BRASS AND OTHER METALS MIXED INTO THE COMBINATION. From a very prominent Hampton N.Y. estate sale we bring you this wonderful reverse painted pink glass shade. Sorry for the glare in the photos the glass with the exception of the painted art is pink. This is one of two that was in the hallway ceiling of an older large home. Would work on a lamp also. Find no damage has patina from being old and will need soap and water. Approx 5 1/4" tall top opening diameter approx 2 1/8" outside rim. Bottom opening inside 6 1/4" diameter. These are old you can tell the older glass making minor uneven spots from manufacture are present. The shade may be older than I am calling it late 19th early 20th century. Made of what looks to be bronze-painted spelter metal. With cast classical motifs incuding ribbons, wreaths and scrollwork. One of the shade frames is still perfectly"round" while the other two have been slightly squeezed or moved out of alignment. All three have their drop tassels on the bottom. 5 Vintage Reverse Painted Shades - Violets - NO RESERVE
I purchased five of these lovely reverse-painted shades at an antiques auction. There are three clusters of hand-painted violets around each shade. The bottom rim is edged with a light blue. They measure 5 ½” from top to bottom. The diameter of the top is about 2 1/8” and the bottom measures 3” across. Four of the shades are in perfect or near perfect condition. There are“flea bites” on the tops where the shades attach to the fixtures as you would expect with a shade of this age. The fifth shade also has three tiny“flea bites” on the bottom rim. They are for a smaller single bulb lamp or fixture and are quite lovely. They are as found and have some dust in the crevices and I did NOT wash or clean them and leave this to the new owner. The height of both pieces is 5 inches and the opening at the bottom or wider end is 4 3/8 inches with the top smaller opening measuring 2 1/4 inches. There is some rougher feel to the glass where the shede meets the lamp or fixture and there is one small flake on the shade with the reverse painting at the very bottom edge but it is not unsightly.
