One lot of Two HUGE Reverse painted puffy glass shades for light fixtures!!
Up for bid is one lot of two HUGE reverse painted. Puffy, translucent glass shades that appear to be from the first half of the 1900's! These shades are 9 inches tall, have an inside diameter of 14 inches at the widest point, a small opening of 1 5/8 inches inside diameter and the large opening of 11 1/4 inches inside diameter. Each unit has two"v" cuts out of the glass that are 2 inches deep and 5 inches wide. The glass is 3/16 to 1/4 inches thick. No visible cracks or serious chips. We do not want to say they are perfect as they do show some wear from use and age. We could not find a makers mark or an artists mark on these globes. We are not sure of the age of the items or the origin. We are not sure if the units are intended for a floor lamp type of fixture or designed to be in a ceiling fixture. From a very prominent Hampton N.Y. estate sale we bring you this wonderful reverse painted pink glass shade. Sorry for the glare in the photos the glass with the exception of the painted art is pink. This is one of two that was in the hallway ceiling of an older large home. Would work on a lamp also. Find no damage has patina from being old and will need soap and water. Approx 5 1/4" tall top opening diameter approx 2 1/8" outside rim. Bottom opening inside 6 1/4" diameter. These are old you can tell the older glass making minor uneven spots from manufacture are present. The shade may be older than I am calling it late 19th early 20th century. Very nice condition not even a chip on top from screws which you usually find. Made of what looks to be bronze-painted spelter metal. With cast classical motifs incuding ribbons, wreaths and scrollwork. All three have their original ribbed glass insterts intact, although the reverse painting is pretty much turned to powder. One of the shade frames is still perfectly"round" while the other two have been slightly squeezed or moved out of alignment. All three have their drop tassels on the bottom. One shows some corrosion on the bottom side.
