The glass reservoir ... morehas its' cork stopper and there are no cracks or damage that I can find, however, it is dirty internally. It may be missing its' glass chimney. The reservoir and chimney move up and down on the brass pillar as they should and its stay in place when the knurled bolt to the back is tightened. The porcelain chimney has a repaired section to one side, this feels sturdy, there is also some crazing discouloration and chips in places. The iron and brass work does have the usual scuffs, marks, tarnishing and scratches that you expect from a used item of this age. I have tried to show the condition in the photographs. The lamp has its original wooden case.

This x is also joined with an arch from tip to tip of the top of the x. The overall condition of this piece is stunning. However there are glazed over chips that I’ve taken note of. So this means ... morethey are original to the manufacturing of this piece. However though, if you were to place this together again as a completed lamp, the flanges would cover the top and bottom rims, hiding any such marks. I believe it is for this reason alone that this piece survived and was released by the manufacturer. Vintage Deco Japanese Studio Art Pottery Flambe Drip Glaze Lamp Awaji Mark 1930
This listing is for a rare Awaji-ware lamp. This lamp was potted as a lamp- not a vase. It is fully marked with the Awaji Island flag mark. Kiln mark, export mark, and another mark- possibly the artist. I am dating it between 1921 and 1939, because the"Made in Japan" mark started in 1921, and both the Sanpei and Rikita kilns of Awaji closed in 1939. The lamp measures 18" tall overall. The exposed pottery portion measures 7 1/4" tall. And 8 1/2" greatest diameter. The pottery has intentional course ridges left from throwing along with undulating, incised decoration and amazing, frothy purple, red, green, and white drip glaze. The combined glaze and texture is quite robust, and reminiscent of ocean waves- possibly the island potter's inspiration. The lamp is complete with its(original? 13.75" cased green glass ... moreshade and and fittings. I think the shade is an Emeralite. It is definately period correct. And probably original to the lamp. I'm fairly certain that these cone-shades were originally produced to be hung from ceiling fixtures, but companies that produced lamps(especially one-of-a-kind studio pottery lamps) used whatever parts were appropriate and available. I love the studio-made, wire shade fitter(the original black paint can be seen on the underside) It looks like the lamp had a re-wire and extra coat of gold-tone paint in the 50's or 60's. It works well. Both the pottery and shade are excellent with no damage(If you're unfamiliar with antique shades. The top and bottom are"rough-cut" at the factory, and a uniformly rough edge with minimal chipping is the factory as-made norm) Overall a very rare. This lamp is a vintage pearl inlaid vase style hand made in Japan. The vase part of the lamp stands 14" tall and sits 6.5' wide at base. It was brought to the states by a woman names Betty Shaw that worked for the Merchant Marines in the 1950's. She picked this piece up in Tokyo. The lamp is quite beautiful as you can see. There is an makers mark on the bottom that I cannot quite make out. See for yourself. This may be a Yano piece. Not 100% sure.
