Swamped with business, is said to have offered group rates for funerals if all killings were done on Saturdays. A small plaque downtown, marks the site of the old"sporting district" or red-light area called Popcorn Alley. Home to gambling halls, brothels and brass-railed saloons, it apparently acquired its name from the"popping" noise made by constant opening and closing of doors during all hours of the night. Today only two saloons, the Senate(where slugger Jack Dempsey once worked as a dishwasher) and the Silverbell, plus a row of three Victorian houses on Pacific Street called the Cribs(once used by prostitutes) still stand. The Telluride Housing Authority renovated the buildings in 1983. Vintage pair of NIGHTWATCH lamps. Each lamp has a No. 303 Globe Brand lantern from World Light MFY. LTD. The lamps are mounted by nails to the wood base. There is some nautical rope wrapped around the base. The lamps were kerosene and appear to be retrofitted by NightWatch with an electric light. The bulbs still work in each lamp. They flicker like a flame. There is also a socket at the top for a standard light bulb. They have also been tested and work fine. The top light works like a normal light with a knob to turn it on and off. The flickering globe lamp has an older Leviton control on the wood base that turns. Some paint on the electric cord. Stamped(or pressed into the wood) on the back of each lamp is the logo NIGHTWATCH and the symbol of an OWL. Imperfections as would be expected with older lamps. Has 2 small bulbs inside of the top and two in the bottom.They are all newly replaced.This lantern is in good shape but will need some clean of handle. Vtg 1930s Mantle Lamp Company Art Deco Candle Design Alacite White Finial Lamp
You're bidding on a very nice 1930s vintage stick lamp- it has a sticker remnant on the bottom identifying it as a product of the Mantle Lamp Company. This company developed into the Aladdin Company. Which produced a wide variety of consumer products, most famously lunch boxes, but it all grew from their original business of lamp production. This lamp is a great example of one of their trademarks, the use of Alacite, a sort of slightly opalescent ivory-white glass. This lamp features an interesting stylized candle design- very period Art Deco- and still has the alacite and brass finial shade cap at the top! Very nice condition, no apparent chips or cracks. It appears to have the original cord, in decent functional condition, with its original bakelite plug. Tested and still working perfectly. Selling a documented. Circa 1905 leaded glass lamp manufactured by Unique Art Glass& Metal Company. This shade is in immaculate condition and is one of the best preserved shades I have come across from this era not in a museum. There are NO cracks. Only the tiniest blemish in the glass as shown in photo#6 though it is superficial and does not extend through to the other side of the glass piece. Both the shade and the base can be viewed on page 74 of Paul Crist's Mosaic Shades book. Lamp stands 21.5" high and shade is 16.5" wide. Has an original Hubbell socket in good working condition. The lamp has been rewired with modern, cloth covered wire and a vintage style plug. Nice verdigris over bronze patina. Has a quality, sand cast bronze heat cap/ring. Up for sale is a gorgeous ANTIQUE PHOENIX GLASS COMPANY lamp featuring a reverse painted glass shade. It is in working condition as demonstrated in the pictures. The base could use some cleaning up but there does not appear to be any significant damage on either the base or the shade. From bottom of the base to the top of the finial. It stands 23 inches tall. The shade is 16 inches in diameter. I don’t know much about the lamp. I have tried researching it but have not found much information online regarding the company. The“1876” mark on the bottom seems to be a hallmark of the Phoenix Company, though. It has been in my family for years(it belonged to my father’s grandmother) so it is probably from the early 1920’s, perhaps earlier. Vacuum Oil Company was the first oil company to operate in Portugal since 1896. This company start selling kerosene in the first years of the twentieth century under the brand name Sunflower Kerosene. Petróleo Sunflower) and was the market leader until the forties of last century. It is very difficult to find in the antiques market a kerosene lamp like this one. The blue color and foot shape like this is not usual. In the diamond basis is written USE SUNFLOWER We can observe one little sunflowers on the top of the font. And also the Vacuum Oil Company logo. Probably this is one of the few blue Vacuum lamps with this font format still existing. I dare to say that finding an item like this one happens once in a lifetime.
