VNTG ORIGINAL KAISER LEUCHTEN IDELL CHRISTIAN DELL BAUHAUS DESK LAMP #6556
This is an original Kaiser Idell desk lamp model 6556 It has a sleek silhouette and modern design. Made in the 1930's. It was designed by Christian Dell and represented the high design of the Bauhaus style. This particular lamp, was one of the first made by Dell. It has its original forest green color and all original parts. The white enamel underneath the dome, has been carefully repainted its original white color due to some surface rust that was completely removed. The wiring was replaced at some point. It works perfectly and still has its original, very durable cord. This lamp was made of the finest materials of the time and was built to last. The paint was the top of the line and has lasted almost 90 yrs. The green paint does have some fade spots and a few dark spots and one small rough spot(please see photos) The steel neck is remarkably ... moregood. I still had its original sticker until the white had to be repainted. Overall, this is a very fine German made lamp. Here is a little bit about the designer. Christian Dell was a German silversmith and designer. From 1922-25 he worked as a foreman of the metal workshop at the Bauhaus in Weimar where he was the man behind a highly innovative and pioneering style of design. The Bauhaus occupies a place of its own in the history of the 20th century culture; architecture. Design, art and new media. As one of the first colleges of design, it brought together a number of the most outstanding contemporary architects and artists. This lamp is in great working condition with it's original vintage double strand wiring, I can find no makers mark but believe it to be manufactured by Markel.The metal shade and base are in good condition with no damage and is showing a patination developed over time with a few areas of minor age/surface wear.
