Hettier& Vincent was a famous french lighting company. Wholesale and retailer with its shop at the prestigeous and beautiful Place de Vosges in Paris. On page 7 of the H&Vgeneral catalogue a range of wrought iron lamps was presented with precious shades by Gallé Muller freres and Delatte. H&V also sometimes used Daum shades for their top pieces. Nowadays a single shade made by the famous glass factories of Daum and Gallé make prices at auctionhouses in the 5 to 8K range. The lamp I present here offers you the opportunity to have a typical early French art deco lamp for a more then reasonable price. André ... moreDelatte(1887-1953) was the banker of the Muller freres company. And took up an interest for glass making. He started to study chemistry and in 1919 opened his own glass manufactory in Nancy(rue du Feaubourg des 3 Maisons) In 1921 he opened a new factory in Jarville in the outskirts of Nancy having his own oven. Already very succesful he employed 30 workers. Having about 60 employees 5 years later with Paul Maheux as artistic director responsable for the designs and glass production. The financial crisis of the early 30ies made Delatte closing down in 1933 after which he moved to the south of France to work in insurances. The lamp can be dated around 1925. I add some pictures of my HV catalogue(catalogue general planche 7) showing the lamp. Base and support, is all original. It is 27.8cm high. The shade has a diameter of 15.6cm. It's in good condition. Some tiny chips around the edge on the inside of the shade. This very rare model has two signatures. HV for the famous Paris shop Hettier et Vincent(Place de Vosges. Paris) And Muller fres Luneville. The prestigeous glass factory from the east of France where hettier et Vincent had this model made. Shades with this decoration exist both as small shades and as larger bowls. The wrought iron base of remarkable quality is represented in the old Hettier& Vincent catalogue and exists in two versions. A larger one which was sold with a Gallé shade and a smaller version that was offered with this greenish Muller produced shade or on customers demand with other luxerious Hettier& Vincent glasses. HETTIER& VINCENT MULLER FRERES An exceptional very rare and authentic french art deco lamp in wrought iron. The Hettier& Vincent base holds a precious cameo shade in coloured glass produced by Muller freres. Hettier& Vincent was a famous french lighting company. Wholesale and retailer with its shop at the prestigeous and beautiful Place de Vosges in Paris. On page 7 of the H&V general catalogue a range of wrought iron lamps was presented with luxerious shades by Gallé Muller freres and André Delatte. H&V also sometimes used Daum shades for their top pieces. These lamps from the early 30ies show the transition from art nouveau to art deco and are nowadays wanted collector items making high prices at auctionhouses. The lamp can be dated around 1922-25. By that date the famous Muller freres glass company issued ... morea serial of cameo shades and vases showing lakes and trees in deep-marroon on a yellow-orange background. The images were created by acid engraving the upper dark brown layer and then polishing the orange layer underneath. The orange layer itself has a mottled brown structure in the lower part of the shade which vaguely shines through and attributes to the decoration giving it a subtle depth. Only top glass manufactories during the interbellum like Gallé Daum and Muller were capable of producing glasses of this quality. Here below I add some pictures of my HV catalogue(catalogue general planche 7) representing the lamp under#5925. The catalogue is no part of the sale. The lamp is 35.4 cm high. It's in excellent condition. One unimportant tiny flake to the rim. The lamp is rewired with new cloth covered twisted cord and has its old european E14 candelabra-base socket. A bulb will be added. I will rewire the light with US candelabra base socket and US 2-prong plug for the US. Canada or Japan. I can also wire for Australia or the UK and place a B22/BC cap bayonet socket. They hold 6 cups in handblown and acid engraved glass by Muller freres. All six are signed Muller fres Luneville. This model sconce is represented on page 61 of the general catalogue of Hettier& Vincent. I have the matching pair of H&V chandeliers listed in one of other auctions. On page 63 and 64 of the 1925 HV general catalogue we can see similar models being represented. The MUller bowl is done in brownish-green glass with red patina on the flowers. The chandelier is in very good condition. One small chip to the rim hidden by the mounting. Some dark brown spots on the inside ... moreof the bowl. Normaly I use chemicals to clean and remove such marks. I did not do so this time since I was afraid my agresive chemicals would remove the red on the flowers as well. And these brown marks on the inside aren't visible on the outside. I have renickeled and patinated the mounting. The bowl has a diameter of 42 cm(16-1/2" The chandelier has a height of 44 cm(17-3/8" The fixture is rewired and holds a european E27 standard socket.
