Mainly known as a ceramic designer and as the artistic leader of the Gustavsberg porcelain factory. Kåge studied decorative painting at Tekniska skolan in Stockholm and later for the painter Carl W. Wilhelmson in Gothenburg. Johan Rodhe in Copenhagen and at Plakatschule in Munich, where he learnt graphic techniques. His early career was dedicated to advertising and the production of posters. But his best known work was in ceramics, begun when he was appointed artistic leader of Gustavsberg in 1917, remaining there until 1949, when he was succeeded by Stig Lindberg. The focus of Kåge's early ceramic designs. As of much of Swedish design of this period was on practical solutions to social issues, an example of which was his Praktika(1933) a simply designed and stackable set of tableware aimed at working-class families.Praktika was a commercial failure, as the intended buyers preferred more traditional and ornate products. KOI Fish Lamp This listing is for an interesting ceramic Koi Fish Lamp. I purchased this at an estate sale a couple years ago. I am not sure if it is working. The cord is original and a little frayed. I would have it replaced if I was purchasing or going to use the item. The color of the clay used is orange/brown. The glaze is shiny. With turquoise, white and brown accents. The light bulb is inserted in the mouth. Please note, there are scattered chips on this piece, so bid accordingly. It measures 8 3/4" across, by approximately 4" tall. It is SIGNED on the bottom, but I am not sure of the maker. This comes from a smoke and pet free environment. As do all our items. Extremely hard to find a matching pair of these gorgeous. Glossy, vintage, blue-green drip glaze ceramic lamps! And in this condition? Almost impossible! Purchased at an estate sale along with many other 1960's Eames era items. Twins! There are two things to note about these gorgeous lamps. One has a three way socket and one has a push socket that only allows it to switch off/on. I am not sure but they both may be 3 way lights and one may of been replaced with an on off switch at one time? not sure. NO LAMP SHADE IS INCLUDED. Absolutely- and I mean absolutely in AMAZING condition! I do not see any crazing at all however I did not inspect with magnifying glass. None to note with naked eye. These have been tested and work although I would recommend rewiring and new hardware(the piece that's holds the lamp shade) due to discoloration. CERAMIC is in MINT Condition. No Chips or Cracks. Mid-Century Modern Matching Ceramic Lava Glaze Table Lamps with Wooden Base
Beautiful pair of mid-century modern matching ceramic drip lava glazed table lamps. The lamps are in excellent condition. No damage or repairs. Each lamp is 42 5/8 inches high(top of finial) and 11 1/2 inches in diameter. Each lamp sits on top of what appears to be solid walnut turned bases. Note one wooden base is slightly higher than the other one, but you can hardly tell that it makes one lamp taller unless they sit right next to each other. Measurements: 26"s tall top of socket- to final top is 34's has a Berger swivel final 6 1/4' base body is 7 1/3' diameter Condition: Excellent having no chips. No cracks, excellent color and shine in glaze, wood is in excellent condition with no wear. As with most ceramic/pottery there may be fluctuations in glaze, a thin spot, raised spot under glaze, a glaze pop or crazing. The lamps overall condition is excellent, having only 2 tiny glaze pops( hard to see) there is also crazing. There is a spot on the wood neck where there is knot in the wood that requires it be oiled with Olde English from time to time. Otherwise the piece is in fantastic condition.
