Walter Hubbard, and Orson and Chitten Hatch began in Meriden, Connecticut in 1852 as Bradley, Hatch& Company. Clocks were the sole product of the newly formed company. When the Hatch brothers sold their interests in the firm two years later. Nathaniel Bradley, William Bradley and Walter Hubbard formed a company which they named simply Bradley and Hubbard. By 1856, they were producing call bells and sewing machines, but clocks continued to be the main line of production throughout the 1850's and 1860's. Above the glass foot are many stars and ovals impressed into the glass in a wonderful design to the round body of the piece. This beautiful lamp measures almost 5 inches in diameter and stands 13 ½ inches tall. This a wonderful antique Sandwich Glass whale oil lamp. Glass has a beautiful puffy design and appears to be early- there are no markings to indicate the manufacturer. Lamp measures 8 1/4" tall. Base measures 6" across. Glass glows neon green under black light so probably does contain uranium(lovely) It is in very good condition with some flea bites around font edge where the ring sits(so they won't show when ring is replaced) and around edges of base(typical flea bites- nothing that is seen without looking closely) and one approx. 1/8 chip in base(again, not readily noticeable) I will be listing several more whale oil lamps so please keep checking my listings if you are interested, I will gladly combine shipping. The well for the oil is heavy glass, molded in three parts(the three vertical mold lines are very slightly visible) It has twelve semi-circular segments decorating the widest part of the glass. The glass has a brass collar or rim at the top. It is mounted to a brass pedestal with a stepped foot. Which itself is mounted to a square marble base. Please scroll down to see our photographs. The oil lamp is from the mid 1800s. There have been some repairs to this piece. Namely where the glass joins the brass pedestal. The original plaster of Paris was loose at some time and was glued. The lamp was made in two sections, which are are joined with a wafer. The lamp has a pressed font with its original brass threaded collar. It has a square pediment base. See Barlow and Kaiser, A Guide to Sandwich Glass: Whale Oil Lamps and Accessories. 1989, Plates 2113 for a similar lamp, the same shape but in canary glass. The lamp dates to 1840- 1860. Pink whale oil lamp -flint glass
These lovely lamps were early 20th century reproductions of the original 1840's lamps and were made just as well in quality but with more colors. This delicate shade of pink is one of the nicest. The glass is lead crystal and the heavy quality of the thing is apparent when you pick it up. This may be fitted with kerosene or oil burners which screw into the existing collar. These are available on Ebay as well as online. The condition of the glass is excellent with little or no wear even on the base. Rare Antique Vintage Green Pressed Glass Whale Oil Lamp The bottom has the letters"H VE" Comes as shown in the photos. I do not know a lot about this lamp. It comes in 2 pieces and is connected at the center. There is a removable plastic piece that helps connect the top and bottom. I dont know if this is original to the lamp or it was something that was added at a later time. The inside is hollow from the top piece all the way to the bottom piece. Missing a top burner.if it ever had one. See photos of the top. Excellent condition- no chips or cracks. Great looking item. wish i knew more about it. Antique Blown Glass Whale Oil EAPG Table Lamp Converted Boston Sandwich Glass Co Posted for your consideration is this very nice Converted Whale Oil Table or Accent Lamp that I believe was made by the Boston Sandwich Glass Company– it appears to be done in the Tulip Pattern and likely from the 1870’s. NOTE: The Glass Reservoir HAS BEEN DRILLED and conversion back to an oil lamp may be difficult. This stands 23 ½” tall to the top of the shade(NOT INCLUDED) 18 ⅝” to the top of the light socket– and is 15 ⅛” tall to the top of the Reservoir. The Marble base measures 5 ⅜” square; is ⅞” thick and has new felt on the bottom(Marble does show chipping– see photos) The Swirled Brass Column& Collars are 7 ¾” tall up to the base of the Reservoir. The Reservoir itself is 6 ¾” tall and has a maximum diameter of 3 ¾” there is some ... morefogging or marring in the glass just above the Tulip Petals.
