NOVERDY Wonderful 1930 french art deco chandelier in nickel plated bronze holding a thick and large shade in moulded-pressed glass by the glass factory Noverdy from Dijon France. Both canopy and shade representing pine cones. A wellknown pattern of Noverdy(short for nos verreries de Dyon.our glass factory of Dijon) A small company producing a line of high quality glasses both under their own name as well as for the verrerie de vosges. Same era as Muller, Schneider, Degué, Daum, etc. This hard to find model especialy in uncoloured glass, I saw pink amber purple and brown toned ones more often, is as far as I know always unsigned. The suspension has a drop of 37.5 cm(14-3/4" and has a diameter of 40 cm(15-3/4" If you have a high ceiling I can place longer pipes to increase the drop. The chandelier is in very good condition. This model is always unsigned yet most likely to be a production of Ezan a French glass factory from the town of Ezanville near Paris. The shades show beautiful tones of blue and amber depending the angle of the light shining on them as we know from the best opalescent glasses like Sabino Verlys or Ezan pieces. The chandelier is in very good condition. I have renickeled the mounting. One cup has a tiny chip on the inside of teh rim. Another cup has 3 small chips on the inside. The store Printemps had their brand Primavera. Bon Marché had Pomone, Le Bucheron had le Sylve and the well known Galleries Lafayette had their brand La Maîtrise. This decorative art workshop was directed by the decorator Maurice Dufrene(1876-1955) Jacques Adnet nowadays an icon of French modernism as well as his brother Jean Adnet worked for la Maîtrise untill 1928. In 1928 Adnet took over the company Süe& Mare founded in 1919 La Compagnie Des Arts Français. But thats another story. Many of these design studios of department stores had their own pavilions at the major design exhibitions. His son Henri Petitot took over in 1917. He wasn't a retailer at first and sold his lights to lamp shops all over France. Europe and the States. In the early days of art deco they produced precious fixtures in high quality bronze with shades from the best french glass factories such as verreries des Hanots Muller freres and Degué. In the late 30's they changed their style and produced lights in a modernist look which often had opalescent shades in bluish semi-crystal by the Ezan glass company. The shades were produced for him by Ezan the French glass factory from the town of Ezanville near Paris-wellknown for its production of opalescent glasses. They show beautiful tones of blue and amber depending the angle of the light shining on the shade as we know from the best opalescent glasses like Sabino Verlys or Ezan pieces. The chandelier is in very good condition. I have renickeled and patinated the mounting. The lamp is rewired and has four B22 bayonet cap sockets. For the US I will place E12 candelabra base ones. The shade in thick pressed-moulded opalescent glass in a geometrical pattern is typical for Ranc production of the late 30ies. The company started in 1909. After the first worldwar this Paris based company(rue Amelot. Bastille) became succesfull with a line of lighting in neo-classical style. Often gilded bronze fixtures holding coloured glass-paste Schneider shades. Around 1930 they changed style into a more modernist look. Nickel plated bronze or coppered brass mountings using opalescent shades of the EZAN glass factory. Almost all these shades are either unsigned or signed Ezan france. Around 1930 HetV lanced a small line of chandeliers in a modernist style made with shades like the one of this ceiling lamp. It are pieces done in thick moulded glass with a acid engraved structure on the inside. The engraving is very deep. Over one millimeter, and the glass is even and glossy on the outside. High quality glasses produced for Hettier& Vincent by one of the top glass manufactories at the time. They make me think of Muller freres but there is no documentation to be found. H.Petitot A french 1932/1935 art deco chandelier in nickel plated solid brass or bronze by the famous Paris based company of H.Petitot holding three large wonderful panels and three side-shades. The bronze maker Antonin Petitot started his company in 1878. His son Henri Petitot took over in 1917. He wasn't a retailer at first and sold his lights to lamp shops all over France. Europe and the States. In the early days of art deco they produced precious fixtures in high quality bronze with shades from the best french glass factories such as Muller freres. In the late 30's they changed their style and produced lights in a modernist look. To survive the depression their fixtures often became cheaper- partially done in pressed brass. These beautiful lamps often had opalescent shades in bluish semi-crystal by the Ezan glass company. They ... morecertainly set a trend and nowadays lots of chandeliers are offered also on ebay under the name of Petitot pieces which in reality are often pieces made by other companies such as Ranc freres Lacroix or names nowadays forgotten. The model chandelier I present was first made around 1931 and in the 5 years that followed Petitot made fixtures in several versions all holding these large panels in combination with this model side shade. Both canopy and other parts of the mounting are marked with the usual Petitot initials AP for Antonin Petitot. The three panels are signed Petitot France. They were produced by Muller freres: they also exist unsigned and are also represented in the old Muller catalogues. For the side shades Petitot chose a well known model Degué shade and ordered unsigned ones for his chandeliers. Normaly Degué sold this model with its own Degué signature but for Petitot they made a new unsigned mould. The fixture holds six rare moulded-pressed glass panels signed A.Ollier France. The central bowl decorated in the same pattern as the panels is a model which is Always unsigned yet a well known shade by Verreries des Hanots. Both panels and bowl are represented in the Ollier catalogue I show at the end of this ad. The catalogue is no part of the auction. A.Ollier was a shop and Wholesale in Paris( 21 rue de l'Hirondelle and 6 place St.Michel) dealing in art deco lighting lamp shades by numerous French and Bohemian glass factories. They also offered complete chandeliers and lamps. The panels of this chandelier were designed and produced by Verreries des Hanots on special command by Ollier. Hanots being like Verlys ... morea part of the Holophane company. One of the largest glass manufacturers in France. They produced art glasses for lighting in moulded-pressed glass under the name of verreries des Hanots. For vases etc the brandname Verlys was used) The chandelier on offer is in excellent condition. The maker of the chandelier deliberately rounded the lower edges of the panels to make them fit into the chandelier mounting. 35cmX11 cm Without electric equipment circa 1930 Verrerie D'Art Degué Degué was the brainchild of the enigmatic David Guéron(1892– 1950) Born in Turkey to Spanish Jewish parents. He fled scandal at the age of 22 by joining the French Foreign Legion in 1914, only to be sent to the Western Front, where he was wounded and then pensioned out of the army. Following the 1925 Exposition des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. He set up his glassworks in Compiègne, about 50 miles northeast of Paris, to produce tableware and other functional glass. Compiègne had been the site of the Great War Armistice. In 1926, the year after the successful Paris Exhibition, Guéron moved into the more lucrative production of French art glass. The nice fixtures fixture hold a ball shaped shade by the famous Muller glass company signed Muller fres Luneville representing peacocks. These Muller Peacock balls exist in two sizes. A small one with a diameter of 14 cm and a large one of 24cm in diameter. These pendants are with the larger one of 24 cm. They has a drop of 52 cm(20-1-2" The inside of the canopy is marked BEV. In fact it's a mark I find rather often on chandelier mountings but I was never able to find out anything about the lighting producer behind these initials. The lamps are in very good condition. H.Petitot& Muller freres A french art deco chandelier in nickel plated solid brass or bronze by the famous Paris based company of H.Petitot Around 1932- 34. It holds nine wonderful glasses by the famous Muller freres glass company. The bronze maker Antonin Petitot started his company in 1878. His son Henri Petitot took over in 1917. He wasn't a retailer at first and sold his lights to lamp shops all over France. Europe and the States. In the early days of art deco they produced precious fixtures in high quality bronze with shades from the best french glass factories such as Muller. In the late 30's they changed their style and produced lights in a modernist look. To survive the depression their fixtures often became cheaper and often done in pressed brass. These later art deco lamps had opalescent shades in bluish semi-crystal ... moreby the Ezan glass company. They certainly set a trend and nowadays lots of chandeliers are offered also on ebay under the name of Petitot, pieces which in reality are often made by other companies such as Ranc freres Lacroix or names nowadays forgotten. The chandelier here on offer was first made around 1931. I show also a picture of the 1931 Petitot catalogue representing an almost identical fixture on page 9. My chandelier was produced a little later and has a straighter to my opnion better matching fixture than the 1931 version. If you would dismantle the mounting you would find that it's marked on several of it components with the usual Petitot initials"AP" for Antonin Petitot. The four panels as well as the square bowl are signed Muller freres Luneville. The four cups are an extremely rare Always unsigned Muller model. The chandelier has a height of 90 cm(35-5/8" and a diameter of 68 cm(26-3/4" It is in excellent condition. The panels and the square bowl have some unimportant chips to the rim.
