VTG TILSO Black Faced Clown Finger Lamp/Oil/Kerosene Lamp made in Japan
This vintage piece is about 9" tall and the base about 3 3/4" in diameter. It is hand painted with a black clown face. There is some chipping of the paint. Especially around the top where the burner attaches to the base, also some on the face(see photos) The wheel turns the wick up and down. The chimney has some bubbles in it. The burner is stuck to the base by glue or paint. I had another one of these that I was able to free, but this caused more paint chipping. This item was imported from Japan by TILSO, part of the New York City based company of L. Batlin and Son. Both base and chimney are free from chips, cracks and repairs. Green Queen of Hearts Sweetheart pattern Antique Finger Oil Lamp Circa 1900 Very nice circa 1900 heart pattern finger lamp. It's guaranteed early and not a reproduction. It's very close to being perfect. But under close inspection you can see an extremely shallow pinhead size nick on the flat top and a faint and shallow 1/4" refraction coming off the top at the point where the seam of the handle meets the body. It's just under the surface and has no more than 1/16" depth. It really is hard to see and I almost missed it. The lines that you can see in the photos are all lines of color that you typically get with these. This one happens to have a lot of them and only makes it a bit more interesting. Waterbury Conn. a fluid oil font glass finger lamp with lovely finger handle for holding lamp while walking in the dark of night(see close-up pics provided) This finger handle is very thick as is the remainder of the glass as wel, the finger handle has an organic thick'glob' of glass on the interior wall behind handle which is charming and reflective of how this antique primitive glass lamp was crudely made(see pics of this feature provided in close-ups) The lamp is an oil fluid font lamp with a filler cap and collar attached to glass font-there are small chips only to underneath the collar of the filler collar and the center ... moreneck piece of brass which was executed when company put these on and is traditionally seen in these oil lamps and is certainly expected. These chips are small and hidden, no cracks or other chips to glass lamp or other damage-is in beautiful and original period condition. An 1870s-1880s Plume& Atwood glass oil lamp which is signed on the thumb-wheel of the burner(see close-up pics included) There is some old residual dried oil/material left interior on bottom-I have left it in'as found' condition, buyer could remove/clean if desired(see pics provided) The Plume& Atwood Company was established in Waterbury. Conn. in 1871 and produced a full line of fluid lamps& lanterns, as well as burners and lamp trimmings for other manufacturers. This auction is for an Antique Oil or Kerosene Finger Lamp with Atwood Brass Collar and the Brass Burner is marked on the wick turner: P& A CO. PAT. 1.16.88& 8.17.91. The blow molded two part mold Glass Lamp has 8 panels and has a flower on the bottom. It shows a lot of wear on the bottom so was well used and well taken care of. Has old Clear Glass Chimney. Just add a wick and oil and it's ready to burn and use. Condition is very good. No chips, no cracks. With Chimney it measures 11 1/2" tall, Lamp is 5 1/2" at widest part. Burner is a#1. Lovely Antique/Vintage(pre-1930's) Miniature Clear Glass NUTMEG Oil Lamp with Chimney. Available for your bidding is this lovely antique/vintage Miniature Clear* Glass NUTMEG Oil Lamp(photos 1-4) with brass burner. Collar and handle. Antique pre-1930s Nutmeg Oil Lamps only come in clear. Milk, green, or cobalt glass. The font(base) of this lovely oil lamp is in near perfect condition- no chips. Or scratches. The glass font is embossed with"NUTMEG" in raised letters(photo 5) The lamp is 7" tall with chimney. The font plus collar is 2 3/4" tall. The diameter of the base is 3" The assembled lamp weighs 7oz. I am uncertain whether the chimney is original. The handle. Burner. And collar are brass(photos 6&7) The handle is removable as are all antique pre-1930s Nutmeg Oil lamps(photo 7) Reproductions are missing ... morethis handle. The wick is controlled by a finger screw on the burner. The finger screw is embossed with a 12-pointed sunburst(photo 8) This symbol also confirms that the lamp is a pre-1930s Nutmeg Oil Lamp. The finger screw is loose. And does not currently control the wick, i.e. is in need of repair. The collar is held in place by plaster(photo 9) Unlike reproductions that use glue. This auction is for a Central Glass Co. Wheeling, W. VA. Finger Lamp. Central Glass Co. started business in 1863. Central combined with United States Glass Co. in 1891. This Antique Oil or Kerosene Finger Lamp with Brass Collar and the Brass Burner is marked on the wick turner: W.B.G. CORP. ELDORADO. The blow molded two part mold Lamp Is Footed and has the classic patented Oval Band Base. The Blown Glass Applied Hand is beautiful and another trait of this Lamp Company. It shows a lot of wear on the bottom indicative of it's age. Has old Clear Glass Chimney. Just add a wick and oil and it's ready to burn and use. Condition is very good, no chips, no cracks but it does have some black specks from where the hot glass Lamp was put in straw for cooling.
