This set dates to the late 1800s or early 1900s. The salt cellars themselves are 800 purity silver, done in a fancy floral openwork design. The interior liners are silver plated, and fit the cellars perfectly. The spoons are not original, but they are quite ornate and match the cellars quite well. The spoons have shell shaped bowls and a rich gold wash. This piece is in excellent overall condition. There are no splits. No breaks, no chips, no dents, no cracks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The salts are stamped with the German crescent and crown as well as 800 for the purity. There is also the remnants of what is probably a maker's mark. But unfortunately we can't make out what it is. The spoons have what appears to be a small import mark, likely French. The salts stand about 2 1/2 inches tall and measure about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. Each spoon is about 3 3/8 inches long. The total weight for the set. Including the silver plated liners, is 232 grams. The weight of just the silver openwork salts and the spoons, without the plated liners, is 146.7 grams or 5.2 regular ounces. jm. Here are two matching. Extraordinary French 1910-ish solid brass chandeliers which measure a full 72 inches long(without shades they're about 18 inches in diameter; with standard-sized shades add about a foot for an overall 2 1/2 foot diameter) If you're not living in a church, they're VERY easily reduced in size- if you have a modicum of lighting experience and understanding. The beauty is you have the choice just how long you want them to be, and that's not your everyday option. The gauge of the brass is thick and heavy, as you might expect from the French, who were dedicated to building things to last- for centuries! I installed American sockets on the one that you see lit in the photos, and it was a snap. I used the original wiring which was in perfect condition. The enameled flowers and leaves look to be also in excellent condition.The two glass sections are separated by a patinated bronze section with another bronze piece atop the upper glass section. They appear to have been rewired, as the plug is polarized, and the bulb socket shows little sign of age.
