An outstanding feature is that it was made in 1785 and is approximately 228 years old! The English silversmith hallmarks along the bottom edge spell out its unique history. Maker's Mark: Bold initials"RH" in an oval escutcheon. Granted in 1783 to the maker, Robert Hennell Silver Mark: Lion Passant- sterling silver content.925 Date Letter: Small letter"k" in a shield-like escutcheon. Equals 1785 date of assay in London City Mark: crowned leopard's head" means London was place of manufacture Duty Mark: left facing profile of George III" from Dec 1784 to May 1786 indicated duty was paid The piece stands about 2 inches high on 4 ball and claw feet. It is 3 1/4 inches long by 2 1/4 inches wide. The entire salt cellar weighs approximately 6 ounces. With the silver frame at 2 ounces and the glass insert at 4 ounces. The silver frame has beautiful lattice work along the upper perimeter. Topped off by an elegant edge trim. Along the sides, is the graceful engraving into the silver of a garland of roses, intertwined with a ribbon. Also, one side is engraved a capital letter"B" and the other side has a design resembling a clock face. There was no indication of any defects or scratches on the silver frame. The cobalt blue insert. Has an amazing color, especially when held up to sunlight or other bright light. At the bottom of the insert is an etching of an eight pointed star. This refracts the light passing through, enhancing its beauty. There is a 3/4 inch imperfection and a small chip on the bottom outside edge of the insert. Whale Oil Lamp 1850's New England A nice antique whale oil lamp with cobalt blue base and crystal. The lamp is in nice condition and measures 8 1/2 inches in height with a 4 5/8 inch diameter base. The opening at the top of the lamp measures 1 1/4 inches outside diameter. The condition appears to be very nice with no chips or cracks. The only area of notice is the base.where the cobalt and crystal meet.there is cloudiness on the interior.may be a result of the application of the base to the top. This is an estate purchase from a noted collector. I would doubt the piece has ever been repaired.but I am not certain. There was a paper inside the lamp when purchased.it is pictured but states the lamp is 1850's or earlier with a drop burner style probably made in Boston and the etching done by copper wheel engraving. Lamp is 2 3/4" tall to the top of the brass collar. 6 3/4" tall to the top of the chimney. With a 3 3/4" base diameter. Signed boldly around the font"Little Duchess" with three stars following each word. Coiled wire acts like a spring that holds the font in place when carrying around at night. Little lamp comes complete with a signed'The P&A Mfg Co Acorn' burner and a replacement chimney. Overall excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Simple. Yet beautiful cobalt blue mini oil lamp. Mark on bottom says Made in Hong Kong. Not sure how old, but I have owned it for over 30 years. No chips, no cracks. picture# 4 is showing one of the"tongs" broken off. I have only had it on display and never even noticed this till I was taking a picture of it. I probably never had it turned in my display cabinet to even notice this. It stands 8" tall with the chimney on. Wick is still in, and knob turns to raise and lower the wick. Vintage Murano Blown Glass and Brass Lamp from Italy Emerald Green w/Cobalt Blue
An extremely rare find. 1950's Murano Lamp with original shade. Is in excellent condition. This is a timeless piece from Murano features the rich hues that Murano blown glass is known for. Cobalt blue applied stripes swirl around the emerald green body from top to bottom. The wiring. Hardware and brass base all appear to be original. The plug has the correct non-polarized prong design for the time frame. The glass is clear. Smooth bulbous body with a long slender neck. There is one minute flaw on the bulbed area of the glass that is nearly unnoticeable(see photo for close up) The lamp shade is in amazingly good shape, showing only some typical color changing due to age and a small light staining or discoloration.
