This is a truly lovely eyecatching oil lamp. The Hinks' Duplex system 2 functions perfectly. When I bought it was set up with the wick but I have never used it. The chimney is a replacement it has Griffin brand and marked foreign on it. The lampshade I am told was original but I dont know its certainly from the right era. I bought this about 15 years from an Antique Shop. I have loved it dearly but I am downsizing and changing styles so there is now no place for it. This item will go by courier or can be collected. Antique Victorian Duplex Brass Double Student Oil Lamp Electric Original Globes
Hi. You are bidding on the most beautiful lamp. It is a Duplex student oil lamp that was converted to electric. You can see by the cord and plug that it is one of the oldest electric lamps you will ever see. It has been tested and did work when I bought it but the cord is super old. I would get a second opinion before you use the cord. The globes are LOVELY and even more beautiful in person. They are in good condition with no nicks or cracks. The globes measure approximately ten inches across at the bottom and 4.5 inches or so on the top. The entire lamp is 27 inches when measured from base to top of chimneys. I believe the chimneys are also original in that they look like old glass and they are the exact measurements of the original chimneys. One of the chimneys has some roughness around the base where it goes into the metal but it is not ... morechipped. If you collect these antique lamps. I think you are going to love this one. There are problems, but minimal. I see that there is one lamp socket that is sort of tipped to one side. There is some difficulty getting the round base for the chimney into the larger frame for the glass globe. But I think that all of these issues are probably just a part of owning a lamp like this. Antique Duplex banquet Parlor Piano Brass Lamp oil Cast Iron Floor satin shade
I have lots of vintage lighting items listed and more added all the time. This is a great lamp with a beautiful satin glass shade and the shade has no chips or cracks it will have wear and some ring roughness that they all have. The outer shade does have the original brass ring at the top which the inner shade sticks up through. This like most of these has been electrified so you can safely use it today. Some people do convert these back to oil burning and you would have to replace a few pieces to do that but not that hard you can buy the burners and parts on ebay. This has normal wear you would expect but for being from the late 1800s is fantastic and has very cool claw feet on the base. The inner clear glass sahde may not be the original I really don't know it's just clear glass so who knows the outer shade is old you can easily ... moretell its age. A good heavy Victorian Oil Lamp. The lamp is complete. In working order and has been lightly cleaned to show its beauty but to preserve the antique element. It stands 13” 33cm tall. It is all original. There is no damage. Only the odd minor insignificant ding and split in the brass as would be expected of a genuine antique piece and commensurate with age. The stem is brass. The brass burner is marked English Made Duplex. The glass part is opalescent/ Vaseline glass and very decorative. All round it’s probably as good as it gets. Ready to use if you wish.

The square brass base displays a two-sided rampant lion- the brass is not polished and has a few areas of wear that have a dark copper coloured sheen. There is no structural damage or repair to the base. The main bowl is a glossy milk glass pink colour with raised embossed pattern- there is no damage or repair. The upper shade is matte finish frosted antique white glass with a decorative raised embossed pattern and decorative scalloped rim- there is no damage or repair. There is a narrow original glass font that sits ... moreinside the shade- there is an old repair to the base of the font(two fragments glued back) but this is not visible behind the shade. There is a usable cloth wick in the lamp burner. The banquet lamp is ready for use, display or future investment. It is marked at the end of the wick adjustment Hink's No. 2 Duplex and at the top of the burner Hinks& Son Patent. It has a registration number 65891. The oil lamp retains its original glass reservoir and ornate brass hanging basket. Condition: Overall in need of some tlc. The glass funnel is missing. The mechanism is still and would benefit from belng cleaned and serviced. The glass reservoir is grubby. But has no cracking. The brass hanging basket does have some damage. TWO SPARE ORIGINAL BRASS SILK SHADE SUPPORTS FOR ENGLISH DUPLEX OIL LAMP BURNERS
Up for auction are these two brass tripod supports allowing the user to fit a silk. Paper or fabric shade onto a duplex oil lamp burner with a 4 inch diameter globe gallery. They will also fit other burners with a 4 inch globe carrier, such as 20 line Veritas etc. These were sold by all the major manufacturers as an option for all oil lamps with a 4 inch globe gallery. Last picture is a page from the 1896 Veritas catalogue and shows both the support and a selection of the shades that sit on them. The bottom rim of the shade support goes inside the 4 inch rim on the burner. And over it, the two clips are then closed fixing the support in place. The top'hatbrim' fitting has a raised centre about 98mm diameter, just under 4 inches. This serves as a locator for shades with a suitable ring inside. Large fabric shades fitted to electric ... morestandard lamps still use the same fitting. allows the shade to move harmlessly if knocked. Ideal if you want to put a fabric shade( that you can still buy in the high street) on an electric converted oil lamp.
