$10.00 Shipping Location: Lancaster, United States This is a Flint Cobalt 2" Fluted Whiskey Taster or Possibly a Toy Mug with a Handle. A Finished Pontil, ca. 1850-1870s. It is 1 7/8" tall. 1 ... more11/16" in diameter at the top, 1 3/8" in diameter at the base, 2 1/8" from the end of the handle to the edge of the rim, has 10 half-flutes, a 2-part mold, and a finished(fire polished) pontil. It is a deep cobalt with just a hint of purple. It is too small to have a ring to it. There is a little bit of wear to the high points on the base. Some bubbles, a few of which are large in comparison to the glass, some straw marks, a spot to the left of the handle that has 2 or 3 brown streaks of glass that are somewhat marble-like but are too faint to see unless looked at closely, some fleabites around the inner rim as well as some roughness from the mold, and there's a small flake off the upper rim. There are close ups so please take a look at them Other than this, given its age it's in fairly good vintage condition and has no chips, cracks, bruises, fractures, or repairs. Because of the wear around the upper rim it's possible that this is a toy mug for a child rather than a whiskey taster. But whiskey tasters could be this size. So it might have been used as both. As far as color goes. This piece is among the best; especially the thick base. The glass isn't thick enough anywhere else to be able to see the rich, deep, cobalt blue and even there you have to look at it straight on to be able to see the faint hint of red that turns it a tint of purple. That's why even with the small flake on the upper rim, the color of this piece is the reason it has always had a place of honor among my favorite pieces of glass. This beautiful lamp is 18 inch high to top of harp and 9 inches high to top of font. The white to cranberry font is in the dotted pattern with a thousand eye effect. At the very top of the font the design was cut like an upside down bell. The white porcelain base is also in perfect condition. A truly pristine lamp! It is a beautiful blue base and the top is a slightly different color blue. The base was identified as Boston Sandwich Glass Baroque. The upper part is unknown. It has a star and circle pattern. The top has 3 vertical and one horizontal seam lines and I cannot figure out how many seamlines the base has. Mark(s) Not Marked Dimensions: Measurements about 4' wide at the base and almost 13' tall. Condition: good pre-owned/used condition with fa drilling chip on base by chord hole and a two edge chips on one of the design ribs on bottom platform base side. Various bubbles in glass. The lamp was made in two sections, which are are joined with a wafer. The lamp has a pressed font with its original brass threaded collar. It has a square pediment base. See Barlow and Kaiser, A Guide to Sandwich Glass: Whale Oil Lamps and Accessories. 1989, Plates 2113 for a similar lamp, the same shape but in canary glass. The lamp dates to 1840- 1860. 19th Century Antique Early American Antique New England BOSTON& SANDWICH COMPANY. Sandwich-Massachusetts OVERLAY CUT PRISM EMERALD GREEN BERRY& LEAF FLUID OIL LAMP. Lamp has been partially electrified and has an interior rod, washer& nut, and metal collar at top for such purposes-please read below for extended condition. The lamp is an antique New England Boston& Sandwich Company fluid oil lamp from the mid-19th century period and is one of their lovely glass overlay& cut concave prism designs(see pics) The lamp is an overlay of white glass& a concave cut prism design of emerald green glass berries& leaves which is very pretty and charming(see pics) Base of lamp is a scalloped white glass. Condition of lamp is very good with electrifying additions to lamp and imperfections cited as follows: the white glass oil ... morefont has several small flea bites/abrasions and/or inclusions which may or may not have been accomplished during the manufacture-please realize these tiny imperfections and please see an example included and presented in one of the close-up pics provided. The white glass scalloped base is attached well to the font with a metal collar(see pics) The oil font is in very good period condition with no cracks or large chips(with the exception of the surface flea bites& abrasions previously cited) and with the exception of a small chip along the top of the lamp under the metal band where the band is fit over the the top edge of lamp for the electrifying purposes. Lamp base has one tiny thin crack at neck of base-there is a pic of the base where the small thin crack is visible please see pic provided for your inspection-it is very small and would be the only imperfection that I see on base. It also has expected inclusions and manufacturing surface striations made during manufacturing. Antique Blown Glass Whale Oil EAPG Table Lamp Converted Boston Sandwich Glass Co Posted for your consideration is this very nice Converted Whale Oil Table or Accent Lamp that I believe was made by the Boston Sandwich Glass Company– it appears to be done in the Tulip Pattern and likely from the 1870’s. NOTE: The Glass Reservoir HAS BEEN DRILLED and conversion back to an oil lamp may be difficult. This stands 23 ½” tall to the top of the shade(NOT INCLUDED) 18 ⅝” to the top of the light socket– and is 15 ⅛” tall to the top of the Reservoir. The Marble base measures 5 ⅜” square; is ⅞” thick and has new felt on the bottom(Marble does show chipping– see photos) The Swirled Brass Column& Collars are 7 ¾” tall up to the base of the Reservoir.
