Copper in particular was identified with longevity and power. These statues stood guard in cylindrical bark boxes. On baskets or bundles called bwete that contained the skulls and bones of important ancestors. Bound into a packet and lashed to the base of a carved figure. The bones formed a stable base that allowed the image to stand more or less upright. Thanks to the diversity of the groups, scattered over a vast area, a great variety of different styles of figures has developed, some of them endogenous and some influenced by neighboring styles. Kota figures represent an extremely stylized human body. Reduced to shoulders and“arms, in emptied lozenge shape, surmounted by a large face framed by an ample coiffure with hanging tresses. (2) Vintage Trench Art Lamps made from M43 81mm Mortar Rounds on Piston Base
Here is your chance to pick up(2) trench art lamps made in the 1940's. The are made from(2) M43 81 MM Mortar Shells and the bases are pistons from the same time period. These are REAL Mortar Rounds that were made safe and used to make these lamps. The rounds have been chromed to match the piston base. I cannot identify the pistons but they are probably from a military vehicle from the 1940's and are in good shape. Both lamps work and both are in great shape. These were made really well and I have provided pictures showing the holes made for the electrical cord as well as the vintage power cord end. The mortar rounds are marked Lot 15- 47- 3FA 81 MM M43 EDB and were roll marked as they did in the 40's. The lamps are 15 inches tall and the piston base is 6 inches wide. Here is a little information on the M43 81MM Mortar: The first ... moreattempt to obtain more efficient trench mortar ammunition was with the development of the 75-mm smooth bore mortar in which the old 75-mm French type shell was modified by tapering the shell from the bourrelet back to the base. And fitting an aluminum fin in the base of the shell. The round was propelled by means of an ignition cartridge inserted in a short cartridge case, and with propelling increments inserted between the blades of the fin. The stability of the round was not satisfactory, and the development was abandoned. A streamlined projectile with fin assembly was then designed for the 3-inch trench mortar with poor results. Several attempts were made with shell of different contours, but proved unsatisfactory because proper stability was not obtained. After World War I. There was an early trend away from the low powered, muzzle-loading Stokes mortar to breech and rifled mortars which were mounted on wheels. The muzzle velocity, the range, and the weight increased, but in so doing, the effectiveness of the trench mortar was decreased in that it lost its simplicity. This listing is for a Antique Tiffany Era Bronzed Metal Electric 2 Socket Table Lamp Base Art Deco. Beautiful American made early 20th century heavy metal lamp vase for use with glass shades. Weighs 8 pounds. Sturdy baluster form. Total height of the lamp base is 26 3/4 inches. Width of the base is 5 5/8 inches. Lamp is in good working condition. Pull on and off switches work easy. Some corrosion on the inside of the base of the lamp. Needs a felt liner for the base before using on any furniture surface. Top knob that holds the shade in place is missing a small lock bolt that holds it in position when a shade is mounted to the lamp. No makers marks. Nice patina. I discount for combined shipping. 2 Vintage Jadite Accent Lamps Deco Base W Glass Shade Pair Repair Needed
Being offered are two lamps that need a little TLC. The bases are jadite glass in a Deco pyramid step kind of shape. One of the lamps has been rewired and worked on. When I purchased these they came with the metal frame and the shades. The finials may not be original. I assembled one of the lamps. But it is not stable and needs some help. The little frame just seems to clip on under the socket and the shade now hangs on a slot on the top of the frame that is held between the finial and a screw. Not really sure all these parts belong together, but they are cute. The little bases would look charming rewired and just have a candle shape bulb. Pair of (2) Clear Glass Boudoir 14 1/"H - 4 3/8"dia base Boudoir Matching Lamps
These are an estate find. They are as old as the hills. I have tested these and they work but as you can see the original cords and plugs are not perfect. The glass is free of any chips. Cracks or breaks. The stems look like they are glass as well and are free of any condition issues. The cardboard insulators at the top are well used and it measures 14 1/2" to the top of them. The base is 4 3/8" dia. I went to a light shop and all the parts are available to replace and make like new, I just never got around to it and just respected their condition as they are very old. AMAZING Antique/Vintage - One of a Kind - Queen Anne No.2 Oil Lamp Base
I might be the only one who sees the beauty in this old lamp. I guess time will tell. I stopped by an estate sale on it's 3rd day. There's usually not much left after the first 2 days but then again, I always find something that others don't see the value of it. In a dirt floor basement sitting on a shelf where they stored their canning goods, sat this old lamp. Hundreds of people probably picked it up or at least looked at it and saw the handmade wood base and decided not to buy it. Here's a perfect example of what you most likely would have found years ago at a farm house. A lamp that probably was dropped and broke off the pedastool on the bottom. Throw it away? They couldn't afford to do like we do today, trash it and go buy a new one, folks didn't have that kind of money when this old lamp was used. Instead, some ... morefarmer took a piece of wood, finished chipping off the glass until it would work for what he had in mind and he made a base so the lamp could still be used. If you buy this lamp, you will agree, that base wasn't done recently. It's been on that lamp for a long time. It must have taken a lot of his time to carefully make the base so the lamp would stay in. That's what I seen in the old lamp, a better example of what you might find on a farm than a brand new lamp that looked as if it had never been used. I imagine whoever done it was quiet proud of themselves for being able to make a base. Yes, it's a one of a kind and if you like your antiques with patina, you will love this modified lamp. It is 19 1/2 to the top of the finial and 12 1/2 to the top of the socket. The lamp is in good antique condition: No chips. Cracks, or repairs. The lamp is a bit loose on the base. I do not know what type of metal the base is made from, but a magnet does not stick to it. Two(2) vintage Oil Lamp Bases which have been electrified. We are pleased to present this lot of two(2) vintage Oil Lamp Bases for your consideration. Both have been electrified. Designed to operate from standard 110/120 volts service as found in North America. One lamp( The New Juno) is in working condition(see 2nd picture which shows it lit up) The other( Meteor) has a line cord which appears quite old. And has numerous cracks and splits in its insulation. Its cord should be replaced, and we did not attempt to plug it in. Both Lamps are constructed of brass and are ornately decorated. Neither has a globe. Shade, or chimney. The New Juno measures 14-3/4 inches high and has a base about 9 inches in diameter. It weighs 3 pounds 14 ounces. It has an in-line power switch. Although the switch turns and clicks properly, we did not test this lamp due to the poor condition of the cord. Metal surfaces have a darker patina than the first lamp, but are free of any damage. Antique cast table lamp base with harp 14 1/2 " painted
This lamp is probably from very early in the 1900's judging by the design. With the leaves and the fluted column in the design. It could be Art Deco. All the old wiring had been taken out. New wiring would have to be put in anyway for safety sake. It is 14 1/2 inches tall to the top of the harp and 4 inches in diameter at the base. From the base to the harp is about 6 1/2 inches. I have looked for manufacturer's identifying marks and could not find any. I do not know what kind of shade originally went with the lamp. At the bottom of the base is a berry an shell design. Then there are leaves and flowers in the design. There is a hole in the base for a light switch to be put there. The original paint looks to be a light yellow or beige with red and green accents. Beautiful 19th century oil lamp with clear beaded paneled loop font with etched bell flower design. Brass column on opaque white milk glass base. It measures approx. 10 1/2" the font is just over 5" in diameter, the base is 4" square and the top fitting approx. just over 7/8" inside diameter. The lamp is in very good original condition with only normal use wear and will polish up great. Antique Cast Metal Lamp BASE 2 socket Art Nouveau Tiffany Stained Glass style
This antique lamp is OUTSTANDING! Out of the depths of my parents basement- cast metal NOT A REPRODUCTION. This piece is stunning and I am sure it was orignally purchased to become one of my mothers bases for her stained glass shade making hobby. I cannot find a makers mark on it but it just screams quality! Has a Art Nouveau look to it and I did find that one of the sockets is marked BEAVER and dated with a patent of Oct. 11. 1921- pictures will reveal that at some point in time one of the sockets has been replaced with a newer one. It has a dark gold tone color to it. The base is decorative as well as the column- the column has pretty oval"frames" on it with a bow and swooping design. There is also a bit of a floral design to it as well- hard to describe but STUNNING! There is some high point edge wear to the piece. You will also ... morenotice there is some scuffing to the top part just before the two sockets. Two pull chains with tulip ends. Base does show some darkening in spots- great patina? It has its original metal cord that is wrapped. I am NOT SURE if it is missing a part on the top or not- will let you experts decide that- it does have what I will call a finial which is pictured. All in all a GREAT ANTIQUE PIECE. Measures21 1/4" from base bottom to top of inial- base is prox. 8 3/4" wide. IT IS A heavy piece weight is prox. 9 pounds UNBOXED. A great piece-will be stunning with a stained glass,slag glass or reverse painted shade on it. I did put two bulbs in it and it works fine. ANT VANITY LAMP. Cut & Etched Glass Perfume Bottle Base Marked CZECHOSLAVAKIA. 2
This is one of two(pair) identical lamps available. Being sold separately. A stunningly lovely, unusual use of a large, large, that is, for a perfume bottle, crystal perfume bottle as a base for a vanity lamp. They would work well as a pair, but one stands alone very well. It's clear from the age of the brass hardware that the the conversion to a lamp was done in the thirties or forties. It's also clear that for safety, a new cord with a second switch has been added. The original, silk-wrapped cord had become brittle and frayed, the new owner will be the beneficiary of the time and expense to update the lamp with modern wiring. The appropriate size shade was located and included. The clip on the shade fits a smaller size bulb with a regular socket size, one is included to get you started. The base is clear, heavy, etched and cut crystal ... morethat tends to take on ambient color. At first, I thought the glass had a pinkish hue, but it turned out to be the velvet runner under the lamp. The crystal bottle was not drilled destroying the integrity of the bottle. Czechoslovakia" is engraved on the bottom. AGE WEAR on the bottom is proof that the bottle base is VERY ANTIQUE. The off white shades are quality. Cloth, lined with cloth, not plastic. I made the best use possible use of the 12 photographs, there were many possible views. Please ask questions if you need more information or more photos. Measurements: the diameter of the bottle base is approx 4 1/4" at the widest. It's a well balanced 4 1/4" high, a perfect sphere. The shade is approx 4 1/4" high, 3" across the top and 6" across the bottom. With the lamp shade clipped on the bulb, the lamp is 11" tall. Antique Majolica Kerosene Light Or Oil Lamp Base with tear drop Prisms. This listing is for one of these. I do have a pair as you can see in the pictures. both are in excellent condition, although each is missing at least one tear drop prisms. each measures approx 13 5/8" tall at their tallest point. at the top the outside is 6" round- that is to the outside- the inside where the font would sit is approx 4 3/4" round. the base is 6 3/4" round. each of the tear drop prisms is slightly over 6" long- not counting the wire that holds them on there are hoels for 8 tear drop prisms on each. one has 7 on it, the other one has 6, so you will have to find matching ones. both are in serious need of cleaning. tear drop prisms will be taken off to ship and wrapped seperately. i will ship priority mail only with insurance. the ... moreone picture shows you what it would look like with an oil lamp in it- although it is not a proper fit and is just a plain looking one- the oil lamp is not included in this auction. absolutely stunning with no damage other than the missing prisms. each one weighs 4 pounds. will be wrapped heavily with bubble wrap. ANTIQUE PAIRPOINT LAMP BASE - HUBBELL SOCKETS - 2 LIGHT CLUSTER - POLISHED BRASS
Up for auction is a beautiful antique signed Pairpoint two(2) cluster lamp base. This base has two original Harvey Hubbell sockets with mica and porcelain interiors and the familiar acorn pulls. The base is a polished brass and I believe it may also be lacquered. I cannot find this base in either the Malakoff book or the St. Aubin book. It is guaranteed to be Pairpoint however as it is properly signed with the trademark diamond impressed on the underside of the base. It has a beautiful floral decoration around the base with figural lion heads at the bottom. This base stands about 17.5" tall and is about 7.5" wide at the base. It has been rewired with gold vinyl lamp cord. This is a larger base and most likely was intended for one of the larger"puffy" shades Pairpoint made. I do have a 14" spider up for auction separately. ... moreIt will fit over the top of the base but it does not however fit this lamp properly as the spider will not clear the arms and sockets. It will only fit if upside down. Which is not correct. If you wish to purchase that spider I will combine shipping however. I purchased this piece just as you see it. I believe it's all original. I do not see evidence this particular base was silver plated and it's likely it was always polished brass. I believe that this pattern is a rarer one as it's not found in the main reference books or online auctions. It is in wonderful condition and shows no sign of damage or repair. This base is now likely over 100 years old and displays beautifully! I've tried to describe everything to the best of my ability but p lease look at all the photos as they are the best description.
