Pair Art Deco Slip Shades Batwing for Sconces Chandelier Beautiful No Reserve
Here a pair of vintage art deco or art nouveau slipper shades in very nice condition. No cracks or chips. Just some tiny"flea bites" on the mounting edges. They are 4 1/2 inches across at the widest point, which is from tab to tab. Looks like 6 3/8 inches from the start/top of one of the tabs to the bottom of the shade. Overall length is 8 1/2 inches, and it would protrude from the fixture at just under 4 inches. The glass is frosted and is very thick and substantial. If I can answer any questions, let me know. We have also been told that the lamp could be Italian or even Spanish. What is certain is that the lamp is one beautiful piece of functional art! It is comprised of bronze, painted white cast metal, brass and a woven basket of wire forming the inner portion. Attached to the wire frame are numerous mold-blown multi-colored glass flowers and all are accounted for. They each glow nicely once illuminated and you can add a dimmer switch for a softer mood lighting effect. The overall condition is very good and the lamp is ready for use. There are four lower"rings" with 2 or 3 prisms hanging from each space. Then graduates to"hooked" spires with 2 or 3 prisms. Center top section has draped prism strings and top has curved spires with prisms. I counted approx 410 total prisms with 5-8 missing. There is some damage(see condition below)rewired and repaired this would look spectacular.and it's size is suitable for a dining room or hallway. CONDITION: One of the top curved spires broke off and is missing. Two of the center curved spires are broken but present. this is a vintage brass dome pan art deco ceiling chandelier with 3 dangling light areas. there is also 3 matching frosted glass handpainted on the inside roses shades. it needs rewiring. the finial is cast iron. there is atiny split mark on the outer edge on the dome. very small. the dome is 16 in. wide and 4 in. tall. the light areas is 5 in. tall and 3.5 in. wide. the glass shades are 2 in. on one end and 4 in. on the other and they are 5in. tall. one of them has a hairline crack line near the edge as you can see in the picture. you can see it from the inside. there is flea bites on the shade edges from age and use. in good used condition.

The lower end of the stem, and the reverse finial securing the bottom are dark copper/bronze colored. The original globes have an iridescent band at the mouth, abstract embossed designs in two circumferential bands. They are in excellent condition except for scattered areas where the black painted bands have some color loss. One socket has a crack that has no effect on function. This model is always unsigned yet most likely to be a production of Ezan a French glass factory from the town of Ezanville near Paris. The shades show beautiful tones of blue and amber depending the angle of the light shining on them as we know from the best opalescent glasses like Sabino Verlys or Ezan pieces. The chandelier is in very good condition. I have renickeled the mounting. One cup has a tiny chip on the inside of teh rim. Another cup has 3 small chips on the inside. André Delatte Wonderful french 1920-25 art deco chandelier in wrought iron with shades in glass paste signed A.Delatte Nancy. Often André Delatte used black ink to sign his glasses. The signatures are vague and on some shades almost gone but traces are still visible. André Delatte(1887-1953) was the private banker of the Muller freres company and thats how he came in touch and fell in love with art nouveau and art deco glassware. He took up a study in chemistry and in 1919 he started to work for Muller decorating vases. In 1921 he opened his own workshop in Jarvil. The outskirts of Nancy. It became a welknown small glass company making mainly glas paste vases and shades for lighting. And was especially successful with the beautiful mottled structures of Delattes colored pieces. The store Printemps had their brand Primavera. Bon Marché had Pomone, Le Bucheron had le Sylve and the well known Galleries Lafayette had their brand La Maîtrise. This decorative art workshop was directed by the decorator Maurice Dufrene(1876-1955) Jacques Adnet nowadays an icon of French modernism as well as his brother Jean Adnet worked for la Maîtrise untill 1928. In 1928 Adnet took over the company Süe& Mare founded in 1919 La Compagnie Des Arts Français. But thats another story. Many of these design studios of department stores had their own pavilions at the major design exhibitions. La Maîtrise was represented at the famous 1925 Art Décorative exhibit with interiors designed by Dufrene. Of which by the way the Parisian blacksmith M.Vasseur was responsable for the metal work. Verreries des Hanots A wonderful 1925-1930 art deco chandelier in nickel plated solid brass or bronze. Holding beautiful very rare shades in thick moulded-pressed glass. The three side shades are signed Verreries des Hanots France. The large bowl is a model made by Hanots but like many of their models this one is always unsigned. Verreries des Hanots is like Verlys one of the names the large company Holophane used for their production of art glasses. The lovely and very well made fixture of this chandelier is marked RM on several of its parts. I wasn't able to track down the full name of mister R.M. designing this lamp. But have and had several other beautiful mountings bearing the same marks(see last two pics) The chandelier is in excellent condition. I have renickeled and patinated the mounting. H.Petitot A french 1930 art deco chandelier in nickel plated solid brass or bronze by the famous Paris based company of H.Petitot. The bronze maker Antonin Petitot started his company in 1878. His son Henri Petitot took over in 1917. He wasn't a retailer at first and sold his lights to lamp shops all over France. Europe and the States. In the early days of art deco they produced precious fixtures in high quality bronze with shades from the best french glass factories such as verreries des Hanots Muller freres and Degué. In the late 30's they changed their style and produced lights in a modernist look which often had opalescent shades in bluish semi-crystal by the Ezan glass company. The chandelier I present is unsigned. It spreads a nice warm toned light. The bronze maker Antonin Petitot started his company in 1878. His son Henri took over in 1917. They had there own shop in Paris yet primarily were a wholesale selling their lamps to shops all over France Europe and the States. Together with Hettier& Vincent they became the largest producer of French art deco lighting in the early 30ies. Petitot produced precious fixtures in high quality heavy bronze with shades from the best French glass manufactorers such as Muller freres. The chandelier on offer has a shade signed Muller freres Luneville. Muller made a range of models with this' waterdrop' ... moredecoration. Around 1930 HetV lanced a small line of chandeliers in a modernist style made with shades like the one of this ceiling lamp. It are pieces done in thick moulded glass with a acid engraved structure on the inside. The engraving is very deep. Over one millimeter, and the glass is even and glossy on the outside. High quality glasses produced for Hettier& Vincent by one of the top glass manufactories at the time. They make me think of Muller freres but there is no documentation to be found. The bronze maker Antonin Petitot started his company in 1878. His son Henri Petitot took over in 1917. He wasn't a retailer at first and sold his lights to lamp shops all over France. Europe and the States. In the early days of art deco they produced precious fixtures in high quality bronze with shades from the best french glass factories such as Muller freres. In the late 30's they changed their style and produced lights in a modernist look. To survive the depression their fixtures often became cheaper- partially done in pressed brass. These beautiful lamps often had opalescent shades in bluish semi-crystal by the Ezan glass company. They ... morecertainly set a trend and nowadays lots of chandeliers are offered also on ebay under the name of Petitot pieces which in reality are often pieces made by other companies such as Ranc freres Lacroix or names nowadays forgotten. The model chandelier I present was first made around 1931 and in the 5 years that followed Petitot made fixtures in several versions all holding these large panels in combination with this model side shade. Both canopy and other parts of the mounting are marked with the usual Petitot initials AP for Antonin Petitot. The three panels are signed Petitot France. They were produced by Muller freres: they also exist unsigned and are also represented in the old Muller catalogues. For the side shades Petitot chose a well known model Degué shade and ordered unsigned ones for his chandeliers. Normaly Degué sold this model with its own Degué signature but for Petitot they made a new unsigned mould. The chandelier has a drop of 88 cm(34-5/8" and a diameter of 60.5 cm(23-3/4" It is in excellent condition. The fixture has been replated and the lamp is newly wired. Ready to use. The fixture holds six rare moulded-pressed glass panels signed A.Ollier France. The central bowl decorated in the same pattern as the panels is a model which is Always unsigned yet a well known shade by Verreries des Hanots. Both panels and bowl are represented in the Ollier catalogue I show at the end of this ad. The catalogue is no part of the auction. A.Ollier was a shop and Wholesale in Paris( 21 rue de l'Hirondelle and 6 place St.Michel) dealing in art deco lighting lamp shades by numerous French and Bohemian glass factories. They also offered complete chandeliers and lamps. The panels of this chandelier were designed and produced by Verreries des Hanots on special command by Ollier. Hanots being like Verlys ... morea part of the Holophane company. One of the largest glass manufacturers in France. All 4 glasses are signed Muller freres Luneville. The fixture is of high quality castings with fine'sharp' hand worked details. The chandelier has a drop of 78 cm(30-11/16" and is 52cm wide(20-7/16" The Muller ball has a diameter of about 14 cm. MARTIN& GUENIER A very rare french 1940-1950 art deco chandelier. The mounting in nickel plated brass and glass rods holds six slip shades in moulded-pressed glass. During the 40ies and 50ies the company of the designers Pierre MARTIN and Martin GUENIER was specialized in creating furniture mainly for large projects like city halls etc. Not many lamps are known. There is one model flush-mount(a modernist square glass signed Martin et Guenier Paris 6003) which I saw about 5 times over the last 20 years. The chandelier on offer must be very rare. I never saw one before. The six slip shades are frosted on the inside and have a marvelous pearl luster. Certainly produced by one of France top glass manufacturers like Daum freres. They are signed M&G Paris 6002. The chandelier has a drop of 67 cm(26-3/8" and it's also 67 cm in diameter. ... moreIt is in good condition. Hettier& Vincent A stunning french 1925-1930 art deco chandelier by Hettier et Vincent in nickel plated bronze. The fixture holds six rare moulded-pressed glass shades representing birds. The shades are signed des Hanots. A model made by Holophane(verreries des Hanots and Verlys) Hettier& Vincent was a well-known french lighting company. With a high quality finish of their lamp fixtures their chandeliers are now much sought after items. As wholesale and retailer they made lamps for the top end of the market and had its shop at the prestigeous and beautiful Place de Vosges in Paris- the groundfloor of number 7. Most of their lamps and chandeliers hold shades by des Hanots. Either unsigned models or glasses signed Hettier et Vincent(for the models this glass company produced strictly for H&V) or shades signed des Hanots or verreries ... moredes Hanots. The nickel plated solid brass or bronze fixture is of excellent quality. Very fine detailed work as can be expected from Hettier& Vincent. The chandelier has a drop of 80cm(31-1/2" and it's 57.5 cm wide(22-5/8" It is in excellent condition. I have renickeled and patinated the fixture and it comes rewired. It has six european candelabra size E14 sockets. For the US I will place new US candelabra base ones. I could wire with B22 bayonet cap sockets as well. The six shades are in very good condition.
