André Delatte Wonderful french 1920-25 art deco chandelier in wrought iron with shades in glass paste signed A.Delatte Nancy. Often André Delatte used black ink to sign his glasses. The signatures are vague and on some shades almost gone but traces are still visible. André Delatte(1887-1953) was the private banker of the Muller freres company and thats how he came in touch and fell in love with art nouveau and art deco glassware. He took up a study in chemistry and in 1919 he started to work for Muller decorating vases. In 1921 he opened his own workshop in Jarvil. The outskirts of Nancy. It became a welknown small glass company making mainly glas paste vases and shades for lighting. And was especially successful with the beautiful mottled structures of Delattes colored pieces. It hard a hard time during the 1928 crisis and ... moreclosed down in 1933. After which André moved to the south of France and to work in insurances. The lamp is 71 cm high(drop of 28" and has a diameter of around 41 cm(16" Its in very good condition. Two shades have some small chips around the collar which is of no importance and invisible under the fitters. The chandelier has been rewired and cleaned. Ready to use. I have an old 1931 catalogue of the French maison Nicolas Gillen representing this shade(see last picture) The Gillen catalogues show the company used many shades of Sabino for its lighting fixtures. Darboy A wonderful french art deco lamp around 1925 in colored glass paste and a wrought iron fixture. Darboy was a shop in Paris selling art deco style design pieces amongst lamps. Charles Ranc produced some model bronze bases and chandeliers signed with the name of the shop Darboy. And sometimes some small Darboy signed shades can be found. Always signed with golden colored ink. Looking at the apearance of darboy signed glasses it's most likely they were produced by Lorrain Daum. The glass factory of André Delatte is however an option too. The small lamp on offer is done beautiful mottled high quality glass. It stands 28,3cm(11-1/8" and the shade has a diameter of 14,3cm(5-5/8" The lamp is in very good condition. One small chip to the rim of the base. Verreries des Hanots A wonderful 1925-1930 art deco chandelier in nickel plated solid brass or bronze. Holding beautiful very rare shades in thick moulded-pressed glass. The three side shades are signed Verreries des Hanots France. The large bowl is a model made by Hanots but like many of their models this one is always unsigned. Verreries des Hanots is like Verlys one of the names the large company Holophane used for their production of art glasses. The lovely and very well made fixture of this chandelier is marked RM on several of its parts. I wasn't able to track down the full name of mister R.M. designing this lamp. But have and had several other beautiful mountings bearing the same marks(see last two pics) The chandelier is in excellent condition. I have renickeled and patinated the mounting. CARION- SCHNEIDER A high quality art deco lamp by François CARION the famous Brussels based belgian blacksmith(1884- The iron is signed F.Carion and holds a signed Schneider shade in orange and light-pink mottled glass paste. Authentic lamp that can be dated around 1925. The lamp is in superb condition. It is 23.5 cm high(9-1/4" and about 34cm long. Rewired with new rayon covered twistted cord and it holds its old european E27 socket. For the US I will rewire the lamp with a US candelabra base socket and 2-prong plug. The base is numbered 15245. Often people think the numbers on the iron of Carion refer to models in a catalogue. But this is not the case. I have had several times the same model with different numbers and once I had two different items with the same number. I have original invoices showing that they refer to order ... morenumbers. Sometimes we also find the word'belgium' on his iron. These pieces were made for export and I've seen this mark mainly on items I found in the USA. Carion either used belgian made shades in cheap thin pressed glass or the more luxerous glass paste shades he ordered in France at the glass manufactory of Charles Schneider. Nude with Sash circa 1925 A set of bookends is listed in Kuritzky and De Costa’s book Collector’s Encyclopedia of Bookends and are titled Nude with Sash(multi-tier) They are marked DES PAT APPL FOR with the company identified as x-2. The Encyclopedia rates the bookends a rarity of 5. 5 is the highest rarity rating. There are single tiered sets of these bookends. Which are not marked, yet also highly valued. But I am not offering bookends. I am offering the multi-tier Nude with Sash in lamp form. Said to be manufactured by the company x-2. Although never identified, this company has been attributed to various art deco nudes including"girl in wreath" and"girl in circle" I have once seen. Here on eBay, the multi-tier nude with sash in lamp form, and from the homework I have done, I understand ... moreshe is extremely rare. The lamp depicts a beautiful lady bearing all with no inhibitions. Only a scarf in hand. Elegantly she tilts her head back to rest gently on her shoulder, arms raised with the scarf draped to the floor. The multi-tiered stepped base her staircase to the stage. She is made of cast iron with a well worn copper gilded finish. The darkened areas of the patina only add and accentuate the sleek and supple curves of her body. The patina of this lamp has never been disturbed by paint. Enamel, polishing, or anything; it is very raw. There is a small amount of rust on the tiers(see pictures) And a small green spot(indicating copper) under where the cord exits the light socket from the lady’s bottom(again, see pictures) Marked on the back: DES PAT APPL FOR meaning During Examination Status. Patent Applied For. The lamp is fully functional but I know it has been rewired as the original came with a pull chain and was wired with period appropriate wiring(scary! VASSEUR & MULLER : SUPERB FRENCH 1925 ART DECO LAMP in wrought iron
M.Vasseur& Muller freres A superb French art deco lamp in wrought iron around 1930. It holds a salmon coloured shade in moulded-pressed glass by Muller freres. Vasseur was a blacksmith in Paris represented at the famous 1925 art deco exhibition. His bases and fixtures are hardly ever signed. Since Vasseur et Cie. catalogues are extremely rare most sellers don't know how to recognize Vasseur pieces. Often I see them offered as unsigned Brandt or otherwell-known names auctionhouses and antique dealers like to pin on their items. As you can see the lamp on offer is all authentic and represented in my Vasseur catalogue. Page 3#1621. It was sold by Vasseur for 85 French francs for the version with white Muller peacock shade or 90 francs for the version with coloured shade. The beautiful salmon coloured glass spreads a nice warm light and ... morematches the deep-brown forged iron base. The lamp is 30,6 cm high(12" and the shade has a diameter of 10 cm. The lamp is in very good condition. It is rewired with rayon covered twisted cord. It has a european E14 socket. For the US I can wire it with a US candelabra base socket and 2-prong plug. HETTIER& VINCENT MULLER FRERES An exceptional very rare and authentic french art deco lamp in wrought iron. The Hettier& Vincent base holds a precious cameo shade in coloured glass produced by Muller freres. Hettier& Vincent was a famous french lighting company. Wholesale and retailer with its shop at the prestigeous and beautiful Place de Vosges in Paris. On page 7 of the H&V general catalogue a range of wrought iron lamps was presented with luxerious shades by Gallé Muller freres and André Delatte. H&V also sometimes used Daum shades for their top pieces. These lamps from the early 30ies show the transition from art nouveau to art deco and are nowadays wanted collector items making high prices at auctionhouses. The lamp can be dated around 1922-25. By that date the famous Muller freres glass company issued ... morea serial of cameo shades and vases showing lakes and trees in deep-marroon on a yellow-orange background. The images were created by acid engraving the upper dark brown layer and then polishing the orange layer underneath. The orange layer itself has a mottled brown structure in the lower part of the shade which vaguely shines through and attributes to the decoration giving it a subtle depth. Only top glass manufactories during the interbellum like Gallé Daum and Muller were capable of producing glasses of this quality. Here below I add some pictures of my HV catalogue(catalogue general planche 7) representing the lamp under#5925. The catalogue is no part of the sale. The lamp is 35.4 cm high. It's in excellent condition. One unimportant tiny flake to the rim. The lamp is rewired with new cloth covered twisted cord and has its old european E14 candelabra-base socket. A bulb will be added. I will rewire the light with US candelabra base socket and US 2-prong plug for the US. Canada or Japan. I can also wire for Australia or the UK and place a B22/BC cap bayonet socket.
