This auction is for one(1) antique vintage victorian wooden architectural porch spindle post/column. It was removed from our 1896 Victorian home as part of a remodeling project. I have no idea in what year this particular post was put on the porch. Meaning no way for me to know whether it was an original or a replacement somewhere down the line. I only know the year the house was built, and that the post was here when we bought it. It is about 94.5 inches tall, and the squared-off portions above and below the spindle section are 3.25" x 3.25" Measuring from the top to the point where the spindle begins is about 14.5" in length(height) and the spindle part is 39.5" long before the squared-off part starts again. 1800's Antique Stair Ballister NEWELL POST Victorian / Eastlake Carved Wood
For your Bidding consideration in this Auction is a very early NEWELL POST in Victorian/ Eastlake Style. It is elegantly carved on all 8 sides. This came out of an Estate in Daytona. Florida and had been converted a long time ago from Stairway Newell Post to a stand holding a large Bronze Bust. You can see in the photos were it had been converted expertly back in the day. The top section is flat and judging from the work gesso or some other plaster had been used in process of affixing the flat top to the post. The original electric wire is still coming out of the base that would have been the electrical feed for an ornate bronze lamp which would have sat on top of the Newell Post. There are a few scratches/ knicks form age but overall in very nice condition. It had a set of 4 very old caster wheels on the base when I got it but due to age, ... morethey were very worn out so I removed them. Previous owner had wooden floors and the wheels, theoretically, allowed the stand to be moved more easily rather than having to pick it up. It is a very solid wood(Oak? Walnut? but I am not sure which type it is. Appears that some of the carved recesses had gilt color paint in them at some point. A very beautiful piece! Though of different color tones: looks like one was stripped and refinished to a lighter color, the other was left in original stain, a deep mahogany color. Both have a fine grain, and look to me like walnut, though they may be another hardwood. They were likely salvaged from a side-board or similar piece of furniture that dated to circa 1900.
