up for sale is this absolutely exquisite Vintage CAST IRON HORSE HEAD Post. Bust. It is large. approximately 17 inches tall and the base is 8 x 5 inches. It came from a Northern Pennsylvania Estate, found in the barn when it was sold off. I wire brushed some of the loose rust off but it has great patina. The detail is quite amazing. It has some damage and has a crack but it is not in anyway loose to split apart. It is very heavy weighing about 35 LBS. That is all I know about the piece. Couldn't find any foundry stamp.

Vintage Cast Iron Jockey Fence Post Hitching Post
This wonderful jockey hitching post is 13" tall and 3 1/2" wide at the bottom. He weighs 13 lb. 11.8 oz. There is a round hole on the bottom that measures 1 7/8" inside diameter and 1 1/16" deep. With a single screw hole on the back. The paint is clearly original but as you can see from the photos there are lots of spots of rust. I got him at an antique shop a long time ago and he has been sitting in a box for many years. There are no markings that I can find. He has a green shirt and cap, white pants with red undertones, black boots, belt, collar, and hair. The area between his legs is faded blue in the front and black in the back, and the stand he is on is black/blue with a little green. His left cheekbone isn't smooth like the right one but I'm pretty sure that was original to the piece and not damage. He is ... moreholding a black rod of some kind and that is the only place I see any kind of a seam except I suspect the arms were soldered onto the body after it was cast but before being painted. This is all just my observation to give you a better idea of what he looks like and to help you analyze the photos better.

Recently picked the piece up at an auction This piece was made originally to set on a fence post as the head piece and it obviously did somewhere before I picked it up. Was rusty. But not too pitted from the exposure to the elements for some decades. Just gave it a good spraying with WD-40 to protect it from further corrosion. Nice detailing on the horse head. The horse is all harnessed up ready to take someone for a carriage ride. The cap the cast horse is attached to acts as a great base for the piece and has nice decorative detailing on it as well. The piece with the way the cap was made for the piece sits nicely on any flat surface. Does not need to be on a post. Just would ... moreneed to protect the surface it is sat on from the roughness of the cast iron. This is a very heavy piece. There is some sort of maker/model number on the back of the bust where it joins the base. Appears to be BO 160907. Only damage I see to it is a small piece of the cast iron hanging down from the yolk simulating a leather strap lost some of its' end. Chip to the front of the horse's right ear, and some minor chipping of the corners of the base. The cast iron horse head and base stands 17.75" tall. 5.25" across at the base, and 5.5" wide. The piece is about 6" wide when you take in the horse's snout extending further than the base. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. I am offering a matching pair(two) Vintage Cast Iron Horse Hitching Posts. To protect them from the weather I have painted them with black exterior rustoleum paint. These pieces are ornate with a few nice details that differentiates them other vintage hitching posts. They measure 4 feet(48 inches) tall. 7 inches wide at widest point, the base is 1.8 feet x 1.65 feet, and the ring is 4 inches around. They weigh approximately 125 pounds each. You are viewing a very rare and beautiful architectural item from the" Cast Iron Building" age of the 1800's. A cast iron column capital that was used by architects to decorate building columns which may have been entirely cast iron or heavy wood timbers. This is part of a four piece set. One for each of the four sides of a square column. The our sides were attached with bolts through the bolt holes. It looks very heavy, and is at 20 pounds. This piece has a great patina with traces of old paint and some expected normal rusting. The dimensions are: 13" high x 15" wide x 1" thick at the thickest point. It makes a great architectural decorative item which can be displayed on a wall, shelf, outdoors or just about anywhere. Vintage Cast Iron Columns-Pair Posts-30" Tall-Antique Garden Art-Nice Old Patina
Pair of matching vintage cast iron columns. 30" tall. Tops are 7 1/2" in diameter and bases are 9 3/4" in diameter. Nice fluted horizontal ribs top to bottom. Both are solid. Very heavy with no cracks, missing metal, rot, or other visible damage. Very old paint that is checking, chipping and has different colors on top and under each. Some random spray paint areas. Please look at photos as the are part of description. No large areas of paint loss. Nice even patina. Surface rust under paint. Bases have 3 holes for mounting. No mounting holes on tops. Vintage Cast Horse head hitching post/ pillar topper 21" tall aluminum
This is very unique cast aluminum horse head hitching post. It sat atop a stone entrance pillar to a drive. a tree fell on it about 15 years ago and broke the head off the base, it was silver soldered back on as you can see in one of the photos, it is almost unnoticeable. it stands 21.5" tall and the horse head is 11" long, the base is 9.5" wide. it has flaking paint and wear, this would be a very easy restore or display as is.
