BEAUTIFUL SALVAGED VICTORIAN HARDWOOD ( WALNUT ?) NEWEL POST 34 INCHES
This is a gorgeous victorian newel post that was in the basement corner when I bought my home. I live in the victorian art museum area of center city Philadelphia and many of our larger homes had beautiful newel posts like these. Most of them were ripped out in the 1950s when everyone wanted to modernize. This was still in the basement along with a railing. As you can see in the photos. It has a rich beautiful patina. I think it is walnut or maybe mahogany and measures 34.50 inches high. Because it is so big and very very heavy, I am only offering LOCAL PICK-UP. NO SHIPPING! 1870 OCTAGON Walnut Architectural Stair Newel Post Column Victorian Plant Stand
Huge. Turned walnut, stairway, newel post. Circa 1860-1880 w/square nail construction. Nice, framed, recessed panels on every one of its 8 sides. Especially striking is the contrasting lighter stain inside each recessed panel. Adding a top would make this a terrific, one of a kind, plant stand or art pedestal. It is in wonderful overall condition with rich patina and is completely freestanding. It breaks down into numerous pieces and can be put back together in numerous ways. The metal rod goes down the middle. It stands about 42 inches tall with a bottom diameter of 8 1/4 inches. This is a high quality piece that you would never seen built today. Ornate Victorian Era Mantle Columns to Repurpose~Carved Walnut~Shabby Elegant!
Beautiful old carved walnut columns that were likely removed from a Victorian fireplace mantle. It appears that someone later mounted them on walnut veneered boards. And someone slapped some paint on one. The paint comes off pretty easily…I was scratching some off with a fingernail. There is old water damage, but it only affected the backing board, not the walnut columns. They have chips and some damage. But would be beautiful repurposed into something else. They each measure 40” x6” x 3” In response to a question: How fully round are the columns? The columns are half-columns. As if a full column was cut in half.the last four photos shows the side views and the views of both ends.

Fantastic burl walnut Victorian stair case newel post-1860's-----14888
Using the word Fantastic when describing antiques is a little overdone but in this case I think it is accurate. A high quality burl walnut staircase newel post. Circa 1860's. Super piece from what must have been a wonderful Victorian home. Found in Minnesota. Overall dimensions are 51 high and about 12 inch diameter. 2 Solid Walnut Wood Baluster Columns Posts Pillars Victorian Circa 1900 Antique Measurements: length 19 1/4" Flat end diameter at double-ring ends is 2 5/8" outside diameter 2 7/8" Flat end diameter at triple-ring ends is 2 1/2" outside diameter 2 3/4" Center part of columns diameter is 2" Weight: 3.5 lbs. 1.595 kg) These columns are a pair. Though of different color tones: looks like one was stripped and refinished to a lighter color, the other was left in original stain, a deep mahogany color. Both have a fine grain, and look to me like walnut, though they may be another hardwood. They were likely salvaged from a side-board or similar piece of furniture that dated to circa 1900.
