A gorgeous late 19th century mahogany newel post turned and carved from a single piece of wood. It has a balustrade-form body. A smooth base above which are inverted acanthus leaves, topped with an egg-and-dart detail. A smooth section separates the egg-and-dart detail from the intricately carved Art Nouveau organically flowing leaves and berries crowned with classic beading. The newel post has an opening at the top where originally set a newel post light. It is also notched on the back where it sat against the stairs and where the handrail attached. Ancient Antique? Hand Made architectual cornerstone! CHEVAUCHEE RARE!!
I've got a good one here folks. It is a corner stone. Architecturally designed for the exterior of a property. This one is extremely rare with the markings"CHEVAUCHEE" on the lower front. The picture tells the story of a man on a horse; involved in a raid. This type of raid is called Chevauchee. And the definition is worth the research. In this particular image the man appears to be overpowered by the underdog. With cannon balls or stones. Very detailed. And extremity old. From the long hrs of research completed, I found this piece was more than likely to originate in France. It ended up here where it sits in Detroit. I believe this piece to be at least 150 years old. And can possibly be as old as 3 or 400 years. The stone does have some modern day tar on it covering a portion of the word Chevauchee. antique, rare and unusual IRON HITCHING POST 60 1/2" TALL
This old post is a dandy. Most of the post you see have a horse head on them. That's what makes this one piece iron post different. I would date this to the late 1800s to the early 1900s. The bottom part would have been put in the ground with cement poured around it so that whatever you hitched to it had no chance of getting away. It stands 60 1/2" tall and if I were to guess weighs between 100 to 125 lbs. Because of size and weight would have to be picked up. Unless other arrangements are made. I would be willing to deliver within a 150 mile radius for a modest fee. Questions please email. Marble Pedestal /column -Antique Italian Rare Green-white veins 1 of 2 -Pair
As you can easily see that these are not your typical commercial pedestals. They have a totally different look. Style and feel to them as well as the quality of marble/veins. This listing is for 1 of 2 available as you see from the pictures. These were made in 3 pieces(top-middle-bottom) but were epoxied together before we acquired them 30 years ago. I am not sure of their exact age. I could speculate on age but I am not going to because I try to keep everything to the facts in all of my listings and as many pictures as possible on items. Because I like the same when purchasing online. These are beautiful with rare classical colors. Revised- someone pointed out to me 2 others on another site online when you google'green marble columns' that are very similar- they are from the 1940s. These are hand turned. They can be used indoors ... moreor out- we have appreciated displaying them inside. They stand 40" high with the top being 12 1/2" diameter. Weigh app 170 lbs each. Both are in excellent shape. ANTIQUE CORINTHIAN COLUMN CAPITAL, 35LBS, RARE TO FIND, DECORATOR'S DREAM
Genuine antique corinthian capital. These old pieces are very difficult to find and make great accent pieces in a home's decor. Or can be used as it was originally designed, to top a column. Please view all photos. They describe it best. The piece is old and the condition is appropriate for it's age. The piece is heavy. Weighting approximately 35 lbs. The measurements are: 15" wide, 15" deep by 12.5" in height. When viewing the photos. You can see part of the original wood column still inside the capital. I removed part of the wooden piece, you can see the rim of the capital. All of the wood can be removed so the capital could be placed on a new column. I did not remove the old pieces of the column as I displayed it in it's original form. The original wood column is seen in the center of the capital and the bottom ... more1" rim piece. If this is removed, you will have just the capital which is not made of wood. I'm not certain what they made these capitals out of, but the material is very heavy. One can see that the paint is missing on areas. If one desires a cleaner look, it can easily be repainted. I will ship this via fedex ground as they are better priced for heavy objects.
