Unique MAGAZINE RACK Art Deco Cherry Wood, Steel, Iron, and Copper CANTERBURY
This super fine Canterbury has great style and exceptionally detailed workmanship. The piece is 28.5" tall. 16.75" wide, and 11.5" deep. I am not an expert on furniture so I will describe what I see and try not to label. I don't know who made the piece or when, though it it is an antique and I don't know where it was made. The four standing posts and the four other rectangular bars that connect these are made from cherry wood. The castors are iron and really they look medieval. On top of the two front standing posts are beautiful copper finials. The two behind these are missing the finials, there is a close-up where these are missing. Below the finials are wonderful thin copper plaques that have been pressed with clean linear designs, the front two are identical, and the back two are similar, but identical to each other. ... moreThe design on these coppers parallels the design on the back panel with the oval, and the balled ends to the side rods surrounding the oval. All of the remaining rods are metal. Either copper or otherwise, except the back bar on the bottom, and five bars making the bottom'shelf' These I believe are wood and may have been added later. I think they have been painted to appear similar to the rest of the piece, and they have a smooth finish and are not constructed the way the following are. The metal rods are constructed with copper or metal that has been cut into strips and then somehow pinched on the inside to create a seam. The rods are hollow making them light, yet very strong. Now- the exception to those are the five top'shelf' bars and one of the thin bars on the side. I would say these are steel as the rods do not have seams and have spiral grooves like a screw. There are close-ups of everything. There is overall wear and very thick patina on this piece, Two areas worth mentioning are in close-up photos. Antique Trunk Charming Restoration! Patent Date of 1869
For sale today is a restored is a medium size stagecoach style humpback steamer trunk. The restoration of this great old humpback turned out very very nice. The pictures do not do it justice. I found one patent date on the center lock of Nov 1869 which makes this awesome old humpback as much as 143 years old- a true antique. This trunk was in good solid condition when the restoration started and the wood bottom is solid and the wood has been clear coated several times. There are three slats and four metal wheels on the bottom and the trunk rolls easily. The trunk has the two original hinges which are HD. Tight, work well and the lid closes well. It has 20 pieces of original polished hardware. Still has the original center lock which has been polished and there is no key. Two new black leather latches were installed on the trunk and they both ... morework very well. There are 6 original solid oak slats in a golden oak color on the trunk. The interior paper has been removed and it has the original tray. All the metal is in very good condition. There are 31 polished brass nail covers.
