THANK YOU. Here is a stunning and very desirable approximately 150 year old antique Japanese small Choba tansu. Or merchant's chest, dating from the Meiji Era around the mid to late 1800's, featuring a lock bar in the center and classical safe compartment at the bottom right. It boasts a natural light colour with a rich honey patina, beautifully shaped hand forged iron hardware, wood peg construction and 8 drawers of various sizes that provide versatile storage options including a full width drawer at the top. It is in excellent overall condition for it's age. But has a little lock issue: as there is no key and the top drawer lock is in the closed position with the drawer open it will not shut all the way. The safe compartment has a tendency to swing open by itself since there is no key to lock it. The lock issue does NOT affect the lock bar which slides in and out of place properly. Please read the description and examine the photos for more details on the condition. Locksmiths and larger antique dealers will own sets of multiple keys to fit a broad range of locks so you should be able to get the drawer unlocked easily enough so it slides into place. With a little patience you could also find an antique key that fits right here on ebay(I can recommend a seller who regularly stocks this type of item) Other small issues worth noting are a small repair in the bottom corner of the smallest drawer just above the safe compartment. The larger top drawer is stiff to open and close due to age and needs a tweak, and one corner plate in the back is bent out of shape. Given it's age there is some wearing off of the blackening of a few small spots of the iron, and a couple of small nails are missing. Just below the hanger is a small tray for change or keys. The stand measures just over 48" in height. The base is 17 1/2" by 14 1/4" It is in great condition overall with small signs of age or use. There are some small bumps or scratches. Mainly on the base, which I believe would be expected with general use and age. We also noticed what looks like a burn mark(I'm not sure how else to describe it) and a split in the wood on one leg. Wondering how many injuries took place from carting a baby around with this type of"contracption" lol This came from a local. High end antique collector that fell in love with items from the 1800's and this was one of her prize poscessions. Would be perfect to display an antique baby doll in! Inside seat measures 9 inches across and 8 inches deep. Has a layer of black. Worn leather lined. Wicker measures about 13 inches across from side to side top and about 11 inches deep. 13 inches tall from the floor to the center back of the wicker top. The two horizontal wooden pieces are 30" long and 1" square. They are unpainted and have a beautiful patina. The single bentwood piece above has old red stain(no paint or chipping anywhere) The top piece has four upward screws where the horse was attached. The red bentwood piece is 38 1/2" long; 10 1/4" wide at the top and the bentwood piece between the ends is 2" wide.
