Three vintage hand painted tiles. These maybe DELFT tiles but I cannot tell for sure as the previous owner placed a cloth on the back side so it wont scratch any surfaced it is placed on. Delft are normally blie on white. But they did manufacture brown tiles also. They are in great shape, no cracks or chips. 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" inch square.

Pair of PEWABIC Tiles Featuring a GIRAFFE and a LION. Approx. 2-3/4" x 2-3/4".
Pewabic Pottery was founded by Mary Chase Perry Stratton in 1903 in Detroit. Michigan. The company made many types of art pottery, including pieces with matte green glaze and an iridescent crystalline glaze. By 1911, Pewabic Pottery was using its famous Persian or Egyptian blue glaze. The company continued working until the death of Mary Stratton in 1961. It was reactivated by Michigan State University in 1968. For your consideration is a terrific pair of Pewabic ceramic/pottery tiles of a majestic Lion. And tall standing Giraffe. Each measures approximately 2-3/4' x 2-3/4" x 1/2" The Pewabic stamps on the bottoms are clean and clear, and both are dated 2000. The tiles are defect free and exhibit no cracks, chips, or crazing. The bodies of the Giraffe and Lion is a tan/fawn color. The Giraffe spots and the Lion's mane is a darker brown. What really catches my eye is the outline of both animals. Charming and decorative; three School of Paris plaques mounted on brown velvet in vintage frames. These make a stylish wall grouping. Or perhaps a person could use the portraits as jewelry mounts. The very subtle and sublime design is of a botanical/floral nature. The tile has been placed in a newly custom built quarter sawn white oak frame which has been given an old fashioned shellac with wax finish. I cannot be sure of the age. the back of the tile looks very fresh but this is not necessarily a reason to dismiss the fact that it was made during the American Arts and Crafts period(1890-1915) Also sometimes know as the Mission or Stickley era. Vintage De Porceleyne Fles Delft, Cloisonne' Windmill Tile-Arts & Crafts Style
Using the term"mint" is risky. HOWEVER,I'll say pristine is an understatement, with absolutely no flaws to the face or edges(a smudge on the clay underneath) From what I gathered, this cloisonne' Delft tile was made in the 20's to 30's(any knowledge from an expert would be welcome) by the De Porceleyne Fles Delft Pottery, and it is stamped on the back with an early mark and it has holes through the back and top for hanging. Done in an Arts& Crafts style, it measures 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" Shipping includes tracking.

PAIR OF VINTAGE MID-CENTURY MODERN PHARMACY TILES!
WELCOME! You're bidding on a pristine pair of glazed tiles. Originally sent to the Midway Hospital Pharmacy in Los Angeles in 1960, but never opened(until now) or used. Each tile is 6" x 6" x 5/16" glazed in a high-gloss jet black with mirror-like gold decoration, backed with cork and an integral metal loop hanger applied by the Armstrong Cork Company of Los Angeles. One tile features the caduceus. An ancient Greek or Roman herald's wand. Typically one with two serpents twined around it, carried by the messenger god Hermes or Mercury, a design traditionally associated with the medical profession. The other shows beakers and test tubes. Apparently symbolizing chemical advances in pharmacology. Whether these made it to their intended destination or why they were never hung remains a mystery. But these would make a unique, ... morebeautiful, and special gift for anyone in the medical field. Still complete with their 53-year-old heavy paper sleeves and original mailing box(note the whopping 74 cents postage! FYI: what may look like the tiles have slightly curved edges is actually an optical illusion. What you're seeing is the reflection of the white paper on which I shot the tiles; the tile edges are perfectly straight and crisp. And are in mint condition. Each tile weighs nearly a pound- 13.9 ozs. to be exact. 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false I accept payment by PayPal. So they are from the tiny country of Andorra or the Catalonia region of Spain. The first tile(photo#2) is a bartender and man drinking. In Catalan it says"Qui beu. S'emborratxa. Qui s'emborratxa, dorm. Qui dorm, no peca. El que no peca, va al cel. Doncs que al cel anem! Bevem! My Goggle translator that that as something like"Who drinks gets drunk. Who gets drunk sleeps, who sleeps doesn't sin. Who doesn't sin goes to heaven"next part I'm not certain of literally it means"watershed in the sky" then so"Drink! The 2nd tile(photo#3) is Don Quixote and Sancho having lunch. Sancho fills up on"Materia" or something ... morereal. Don Quixote with his books and imagination fills up on"Espiritu" or Spirit. 3rd tile(photo#4) is of men smashing grapes with their feet. The Catalan is"Els que trepitjen raim per ballar no miren prim" Google has the rough translation as"Those treading on grapes to dance do not look thin" Something like that. Actually. A helpful eBayer sent me this translation: Since we go to heaven let's drink, those who tread on grapes are not choosy to dance. The tiles are a bit over 5.75" squares. All three are currently affixed to a piece of plywood. This is how I purchased them at an estate auction. The grout between the tiles is loose and crumbly. I believe the tiles can be removed from the wood but I didn't know the best way to do it so I'm selling them as seen in the photos. The edges and corners have some nicks and wear as seen in the photos. The tiles are have some dirty smudges on them but that does come off-I just made sure right now. Beautiful, Very Rare Hamilton Ohio Tile, Playful Cherubs, Dog, 12 by 6 Inch
A beautiful and rare Hamilton Tile Works pottery tile with a playful scene of cherubs and a large dog. One cherub is riding the reluctant dog while two are pushing him from behind. And two are pulling him with a rope from the front, while a couple of others can barely be seen in the background. One who is pulling him looks to be a faun, with goat legs. The back says"Hamilton Tile Works Co. Hamilton Ohio. This fascinating tile is 12 inches long; 6 inches wide and about 5/8 inch thick. It has a few tiny flakes in the glaze- on the edge and on one cherub's lower leg and foot(see photos) The tile is from the late 1800s. Hamilton Tile Works was in business 1883-1901.
