This is a beautiful old tile made in Europe. It has a nice gray blue glaze on it. And the material that the tile is made of, has a yellow tint to it. The subject on this tile is of two boys or men doing an acrobat trick. The bottom man has a yellow and brown striped shirt and the pants are blue, the man on the top with his arms in the air has a hat on and a blue jacket and dark green pants. There is crazing of the glaze on it. Please look at the photos. You can see the lines when you are up close to it, but from a distance it is not noticable. There is a colbalt blue design in each corner. And the tile is all Hand painted not a decal. Just a wonderful Antique Tile. Rare. The back has a very nice stamped which has a crown on the top of the circle, and then two letters overlapping each other. Looks like the same initial. But I do not know who ... morethe makers seal is. There also is a HF on the right side, and the other side a letter, but cannot make it out. Antique Dutch Tile 2 Boys Doing Acrobats hand painted European Clay LQQK!
This is a beautiful old Dutch tile made in Europe. It has a nice gray blue glaze on it. And the material that the tile is made of, has a yellow tint to it. The subject on this tile is of two boys or men doing an acrobat trick. The bottom man has a yellow and brown striped shirt and the pants are blue, the man on the top with his arms in the air has a hat on and a blue jacket and dark green pants. There is crazing of the glaze on it. Please look at the photos. You can see the lines when you are up close to it, but from a distance it is not noticable. There is a colbalt blue design in each corner. And the tile is all Hand painted not a decal. Just a wonderful Antique Tile. Rare. The back has a very nice stamped which has a crown on the top of the circle, and then two letters overlapping each other. Looks like the same initial. But I do not ... moreknow who the makers seal is. There also is a HF on the right side, and the other side a letter, but cannot make it out. Not sure of the ethnicity, looks a bit native american, but unsure. Each tile shows a daily activity. The back of tile has a green felt cloth for protection. There is a bit of the"fire clouds" effect on the bottom of the piece. Which would have occurred inadvertently during the firing with sheep dung. The tile is made of yellow clay and painted with brown and black pigments. There is a flower painted on the bottom in brown paint(the artist's mark? There is some writing in pencil on the bottom that was put there by the person who had this piece previous to my having it. To remind her when and from whom she purchased the piece; it indicates that she bought it from Jane Bell in the 1950's, but she doesn't remember who or where Jane Bell was. It was gently displayed and there is no any obvious damages that I can find. The last photo show two largest brown spots on the surface. One is where the artist left this part untreated intentionally. Another spot may be a chip or original glaze was lost during the later processing. Up for auction a very nice looking Mexican style red clay tile with a bird motif and corner motifs. This tile is very heavy and very thick. Unlike the more modern tiles of today. The glazing is very thick as well so it won't scratch or chip easily. You could frame this tile and hang it in your kitchen. Or use it as a trivet or just display it against a wall on a shelf somewhere. The color blue is beautiful and personally I love the simplicity of this tile. On the back in very faint letters I can make out the words Santa Fe. N.M. 87501, if you turn the tile around, you read Texeramics, the name of the tile company. Now they were in Texas but this tile is unique that it came from New Mexico instead. On the bottom is the tiniest little nick. It is in very good condition with crazing, a small V nick on one edge + some other nicks around the edge but nothing that impinges onto the front other than the little V. Vintage Red Clay Tile Art Nouveau Deco Possibly Mueller Grueby Era Blue Pottery
For consideration is a red clay tile. Which is possibly by Mueller. The yellow and blue decoration is fabulous on this tile. There are no major cracks or breaks, but there is a small nick missing. There is some surface wear to the face of the tile and some light scuffs and a couple light scratches. The color is closest to picture#1. I turned off the light to reduce glare after that.
