American Encaustic Tiling Company 6 x 6 Thistle Tile
Many have an affinity for the classic old art tile. Here is an opportunity to own one such tile manufactured by the American Encaustic Tiling Company. This particular tile is not marked with the familiar lettering on the back however. Several identical tiles we have recently sold confirm its origin. Located in Zanesville Ohio, they produced many different, beautiful tiles for many useful and practical applications. Many were used in panels, borders, backdrops and friezes. They were known for their high relief tiles that gave great detail and visual depth. This 6 X 6 tile is displays a thistle pattern. Fired in a crackle glaze also known as a Palissy finish, it has both light and dark shades of green as the primary colors. There are flea bites in each of the four corners along with a small"nibble" on two of the sides. There are tiny ... moreglaze flakes on several of the leaves. It displays well on its own but all edge and corner imperfections would be hidden by framing. A great addition to your art tile collection. Thanks for looking! PLEASE WAIT FOR INVOICE. Buyer to pay for shipping and insurance. In the event that damage should occur during shipping. Please email us immediately and keep the original shipping box, which will be needed to file a claim. American Encaustic Tiling Co - Limited 6 x 6 High Relief Majolica Tile
Between the years of 1879 and 1936. The American Encaustic Tiling Company Limited produced tiles with mosaic, comedic, nature, wildlife and human subject matter. Many of these tiles were manufactured with embossed motifs which today are more commonly referred to as relief, low relief and high relief tiles. This particular example is a 6" X 6" tile which were used most commonly on fireplace mantle facings and kitchen splashes. This 1/2" thick, high relief tile, consists of mauve/burgundy glaze and is fired with a high gloss finish. It has a swirled and ribbed line motif all of which variate in length and thickness and emanate from a center core surrounded by pebble like shapes. It has sharp and crisp detail and the relief gives it substantial depth. On the back is the maker's mark with raised letters designating A.E. Tile ... moreCo. Limited. There is also a small amount of left over mortar. There are two tiny"nibbles" on the face that do not overtly affect the overall display. This is a wonderful example of this tiling company's high relief Majolica tiles and would make a great addition to your art tile collection. Thanks for looking! PLEASE WAIT FOR INVOICE. Buyer to pay for shipping and insurance. In the event that damage should occur during shipping. Please email us immediately and keep the original shipping box, which will be needed to file a claim. Flint Faience Co.Art Deco Arts&Crafts Tile American Encaustic MidCentury Collect
Flint Faience Company Art Deco Arts&Crafts Tile American Encaustic I've collected old tile to use in my tile collages and never knew what this one was until I did a little research.what a fascinating history. This company was founded to keep the kilns going during spark plug production. This particular tile is so unusual. It looks more like something experimental. It appears to be hand painted and weighs almost one pound. It is a square with a side of 4.25" It is missing some paint and you can see the artist pencil sketch under the colored pattern. It very whimsical and care free with more of an Art&Crafts look about it. It does have an indentation on one edge of the back side and this is definitely in the make. I see no chips. Cracks or problems in the structure of the tile. It is a beautiful blue/grey color and the decorations ... moreare a bit unusual. Please see all of the photos. Serious downsizing means that this and many other wonderful items must go so check out my other auctions for outstanding buys. There are lots of photos to show you every exquisite detail so please examine carefully. The photographs are of the actual item and represent not retouched photos that I have taken myself. The colors are never exact but they are as close to the actual color of the item as I take the photos in natural light. This is carefully packed to insure a safe delivery. I do not charge for packing. Shipping is calculated as stated in the listing. I ship only in continental US. Please Paypal at the end of the auction the exact amount of the invoice. American Encaustic Tiling Co Pottery ~ AETCO ~ ART DECO 4 MONK TILE TRIVET PLATE
RARE* American Encaustic Tiling Co. ~ AETCO ART DECO 4 MONK TILE TRIVET PLATE TRAY Description This decorative pottery piece measures 6 1/2" x 5 1/8" The scene depicts what looks like 4 monks(friars) talking with each other. The glaze is a glossy blue and white. This is probably circa 1880 to pre-WWI range. Marked AETCO on the back- from Zanesville. Ohio. Overall the vintage condition I would put in good+. I see normal craising along with flea bite's or small nicks to the glaze along the edges. American Encaustic Tiling Company American Encaustic Tiling Company was founded in Zanesville. Ohio, in 1875. VINTAGE 1935 AETCO SUBWAY TILES American Encaustic Tile Co. 12 tile ARROW set
This sale is a set of 12 authentic 1930s vintage ceramic tiles from the famous AETCO tile company that were left-overs from the building of the Philadelphia subway system in 1935. I got them from the company that installed the tiles. Just before they closed shop. I have no more of this style of tile. These are the end of what I once had so many of the tiles in this set are imperfect with dings and surface buffing. The tiles in this set are a bit better condition than the ones in the other similar set also listed. With these tiles you have the first arrow piece and the end cap piece plus enough middle pieces to make an arrow up to several feet long. I always find that after you've set and grouted tiles they look great. And the chips tend to be less noticeable. It'll look like an original vintage setting! The tiles measure 4-1/4" ... morex 4-1/4" x 15/32" thick-almost 1/2 inch. LOOK FOR MY OTHER SET of SIMILAR TILES that form a longer row. Contact me direct at lescab(at) att(dot) net if you have inquires. If the shipping seems high. It's because the tiles are REALLY HEAVY-about 12 lbs. I pack EXTREMELY well. I live in Ventura county 1.5 hrs. from Los Angeles. Pick-ups, and cash'n carry are fine. Contact me direct at lescab(at) att(dot) net if you have inquires.

You could extend the set with 2 rows of 11 or even a single row of 23 tiles. I always find that after you've set and grouted tiles they look better, and the chips tend to be less noticeable. It'll look like an original vintage setting! The tiles measure 4-1/4" x 4-1/4" x 15/32" thick-almost 1/2 inch. LOOK FOR MY OTHER SET of SIMILAR TILES that form a long arrow. ANTIQUE 1935 ART TILE -THE AMERICAN ENCAUSTIC TILE COMPANY-MARY CHASE STRATTON?
I have an antique hand painted art tile up for bids. It's a second hand store find and has a chip or two(see pictures) but otherwise in good condition. It's painted by someone named Stratton and is dated 1935 and on the back. It says, AETCO, The American Encaustic Tile Company. I did a little mini-research and discovered that this tile could be a work by Mary Chase Stratton, the co-founder of Pewabic Pottery in Detroit, Michigan, and the signature is VERY similar to hers, however I can't be sure, it may be a repro, but looking at the detail, it seems like it's been actually painted by hand. The starting bid's $10.00 on this jewel and I've also placed a $500 Buy It Now price, just in case(by the way, if you like, send me an offer) If you're an expert on her works, PLEASE contact me and let me know if it is hers ... moreor not, my knowledge is scant on this type of art. Thanks& God Bless Y'all!
