Collectible Tile Here is an interesting.Vintage Tile.that comes from my personal collection. I have no idea about its origins.but it reminds me a lot of the decorative Mexican Tile.from years gone by. It also reminds me.a lot.of the Italian Pottery.especially the artwork. The piece is filled with rich colors and design.similar to artwork found in the earlier part of the 1900's. I think that this is a much newer piece though. Wish I had a better idea.as to the true age. The tile is about 1/4 of an inch thick. It is the color of Sewer Tile.to the backside. The tile is glazed to the top.and measures a little less than 6 inches across. The surface to the top.actually looks very nice.with no crazing. The painting.looks like it was hand done.and sort of resembles a Folk Art Style. The artist has even splattered the paint.to give it a little ... moremore flair. From the searches I did on the Internet, it looks like this is from sometime in the 1950's. It has some chips on the edges and some of the cork on the back is missing and the white is wore to where the black is coming through but is probably expected from use and age. Rare Antonio Vadillo Plata Tile of Don Quixote from Sevilla (Seville) Spain
For auction is a rare ceramic tile made using the dry rope technique(azulejo en técnica de cuerda seca) from the Antonio Vadillo Plata factory in Triana. Seville(Spain) It depicts Don Quixote on his horse. Rocinante, and what is probably his sidekick and“squire, Sancho Panza, trying to catch up with him. The tile measures 5-7/16 inches x 5-3/8 inches. So almost perfectly square. It is ½ an inch thick. It dates from the 1950’s. Dry Rope is a term from the tenth century that means“dry line. referring to the fine lines separating the different colors of glaze. First it’s necessary to draw the design on the fired clay tiles. Then, using a fine brush, a mixture of oil and manganese oxide is applied. When the drawing is complete, the spaces between the lines are filled with glaze. This results in a glazed surface with small reliefs in ... morewhich there is no glaze. The Antonio Vadillo Plata ceramic factory was started in Triana in 1948. Triana has been an historical tile-making center in Seville for centuries. And Plata’s factory became famous, employing such noted artisans as Eloy Recio del Rivero, Antonio Cortés, and Enrique Mármol. I don’t know how many tiles make up his Don Quixote saga. But I have seen one other collection that had 15 different tiles, so there are at minimum 17 different scenes. I have one other tile from the series that I’m selling in a separate auction. The factory closed in 1960. As you can see from the photos. There’s a chip in the upper left corner. Fortunately most of the chip is along the edge so that very little of the actual image is affected(see photos. The rest of the tile is in excellent shape with only minor crazing of the glaze. The tile comes with its own frame(see photos) But the only thing to hold the tile in place are two metal staples in the corners. They don’t actually work. And I suspect the corner damage is the result of the tile coming in contact with the staple. The frame is included. But if you’re going to use it, I suggest you devise a better method for hold

Final reduction for sell is a 17 3/4" by 12" tiled scene of Jarandilla Spain. The tiles are attached to a wood backing in a wood frame. The total dimensions are 20 1/4" by 14 1/4" including frame. Each tile is 6" by 6" there are 6 tiles. The tiles are bright but do have a little crazing from firing or age. It is a beautiful scene& deserves a better frame. Offered for auction is this colorful Duran tile from Mallorca Spain. This is a vintage piece that is 7 3/4” by 7/4 by 3/8” thick. It has no cracks or repairs. There are two minute flea bite chips on two edges and some wear on one corner. The unglazed back has some light discoloration. The tile is marked as being a Duran piece from Mallorca Espana. The glazed design is bright white and yellow. And features a stylized map of Palma, sailing ships, a fish, and a compass.
