Vintage Ceramic Tile Piece by Renowned Artist Carol Janeway
Carol Janeway Framed Tiles Carol Janeway(1913-1989) was a very prominent ceramic tile artist. In 1966 she became the ONLY American artist to design for Wedgewood. Some of her work is held at the Museum of Modern Art. Janeway was noted for creating her own whimsical style animals. Often seen with strange claws and tails. Carol started becoming popular in the early 40's and by the 50's& 60's her tiles became all the rage. She was written up in the New York Times. House Beautiful, Home& Garden& a dozen or so other magazines and newspapers. I've added a couple of articles from Ladies Home Journal& House Beautiful. Set of 3 H&R Johnson Framed Ceramic BIRD TILES * Trivet * Wall Hanging * England
Here is a set of 3 framed 6" square ceramic bird tiles from H& R Johnson. Ltd. Cristal made in England for ABCO Originals of Lafayette, Calif. They consist of a beautiful Ringnecked Preasant and Mountain Quail signed by A. Singer. The third tile is of two geese in flight(unsigned) With the wood frame they meausre 7 1/2" square. The backs have rubber protective bumpers when used as trivets(3 are missing) and holes drilled in the back for hanging on a wall. The tiles are all in excellent condition.no scratches, chips, cracks, etc. This set would make excellent gifts for Father's Day coming up soon. Thanks for looking in and happy bidding! A vintage antique Turkish tile concerning the Gallipoli War. It measures 7 1/4 x 7 1/4 inches and an approximate translation is STOP YOU DO NOT KNOW THIS LAND IS THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE. Old Mercer Moravian little tulip tile selection 1904
This scarce Tulip tile is picture in the 1904 Moravian tile catalog. Each tile has the old red clay sagger marks. The erley tiles were leaned on there edges inside the saggers. Causing the glazes to run slightly. Old tiles also have messy backs, as Mercer was not concerned with finger marks, small cracks or irregularities in the hand rolling and pressing of the clay. Each one of these tiles has flecks of pigment that would move and streak on the surface of the glaze, enhancing the individuality of each tile. Beautiful Victorian tile from The Provential Tile Works Company. Trenton, New Jersey. Stunning relief depicts trumpet flower, morning glory, in rich sienna browns. This tile was made between 1886 and 1890. It is in very good condition with nice rich glaze and a light crazing. One small chip along left-hand edge. The back has no chips or nicks.
