Beautiful rare antique Merkel hand painted porcelain tile of a young boy in excellent condition in a lovely original gold frame with crown molding detail. Great detail and color. No chips. Crazing, cracks or losses of any kind. Label on back of tile reads KUMSTINSTITUT FUR PORZELLAN MALEREI MERKEL-HEINE WIESBADEN. There is an impressed mark 115 and hand written in pencil 1489. There is also a handwritten label which I am unable to read and have pictured. I believe it may be the artist. Labels at the edge attach the tile to the frame. These labels are for Foster Brothers, 4 Park Square, Boston. The gold cardboard backing is held in place with brass nails. It is secure but some of the nails are missing. Antique Chinese Hand Painted Porcelain Tile Figural Scenic Qing Dynasty?
Here is one of two amazing Chinese hand-painted tiles that were together in a beat up old frame when I purchased them. Up for auction individually today. I do not collect these but have done a fair amount of research. Measurements: 8" x 5" They are porcelain, possibly from the Qing Dynasty, with finely detailed images, scenics and figures. I have NO idea what the designs mean. There is no damage to this tile anywhere. There is typical age wear on the back. There is no signature that I found. Folding screen, potted aralia plant, raised wood platform for the nude model to stand on, dark emerald green drapes, and a burgundy velvet chair. The woman's clothes are draped on the platform. Her hat and fur boa are on the chair. Behind the artist with his palette and paint brushes is the portrait he is working on. The vintage wood frame with gold accents appears to be original. Up for auction is a great little 4 1/8" square hand painted porcelain tile featuring an armadillo. Very nicely painted. Quite folky. Nice greens, browns and golds painted in an illustrative black outline style. This is quite dirty and dusty but should clean up nicely. The sides are unfinished but I do not see glue or grout. this tile was painted with many fires and it is signed it measures 10 in but with frame top to bottom 12 in. I made the frame too from an old barbola mirror. Vintage Porcelain Oval Hand Painted Victorian Lady & Dog Tile SIGNED
Vintage hand painted Victorian lady with dog tile. Tile measures approx. 4 1/4" in length by 3 1/4" in width. Total measurement to include frame is 6 3/4" in length by 6" in width. The tile is SIGNED ~ Betty Manning ~ at bottom right as shown. The frame has a hanging hole made into it at the top. This piece is in very good condition with no damage or repairs. There is a little old glue residue that shows around the outside edge of the tile which is shown in the close up picture.
