Exquisite detail and uncompromising form in a Credenza Sideboard assumed produced April 1959. We had an experienced wood worker look at this and he was fairly certain it was Mahogany. We have no firm attribution on this but have noted that Charak made sideboards using identical components that are featured on this. And even similar use of break fronts with lines for Tommi Parzinger. Drexel& Baker made styles like this. We have failed to ID it. The lengths that the maker went to on this sideboard is quite indicative of the best of the era and we have been unable to ascertain the maker. Piano hinges for the middle swing doors. Brass rods to prevent the doors from over-swing. Smoothest movement of the ... moremiddle drawer. Solid shelving and flawless drawer movement. Boasts 8 drawers and a large central area with sliding hidden drawer with extreme construction designed to take very large amounts of weight. All produced from solid wood. Note the use of banded wood on the top that travels around the breakfront. Based on the brass/bronze pulls used we are fairly certain this is the work of either Charak Modern or Baker Furniture however Dunbar and Johnsons furniture both produced similar sideboards with handle pulls that very closely resemble this one. 100% vintage condition with the mildest signs of use. But someone has told me that they have seen some of this work in England. If so, they did a great job. They used the mahogany where it counts, put carving where it should be, reeded out the legs, tapered the legs, put blocks here and there to dress up the front with picture frame molding. The finish has a little roughness to it, it is like someone brushed something on top. You can’t see it, but you can feel it. I am not quite sure how to explain it. It might be able to be sanded down a bit and just have a clear coat to protect it. You are getting one beautiful sideboard. It comes with four doors, adjustable shelves and reeded legs. The overall size is 87 inches long, 21 inches deep and 34 inches high. Each door is 19 inches wide and 19 inches high to give you an idea of storage space. It does come with a key and the locks work currently. However, we do not guarantee the locks as the always need to be cleaned and adjusted. It is in dark reddish brown stain finish. The very beautiful flame mahogany used on this bowed front sideboard was stained a unique. Light color. This lighter color allows the beauty of the grain of the wood to really pop out! Subtle brass handles, splayed feet, and a shaped skirt also add to unique look and feel of this buffet. The top is cross banded in mahogany which helps to draw attention to the bowed shape. Functionally this piece utilizes its space very well. The two large cabinet doors lock with included keys and house removable wooden shelves(1 in the left door and 2 in the right) All four drawers open and close very smoothly on their wooden runners. The top drawer is fitted inside and lined with felt. Its original purpose was to store silverware but could be used for a variety of purposes today.
