ANTIQUE FRENCH 18th CENTURY FURNITURE & ANTIQUES - Ortiz-Patino Collection
A Fine Vintage Auction Catalog- The Jaime Ortiz-Patino Collection of French Furniture and Decorations" The catalog to an auction sale held in New York by Sotheby’s on May 20. 1992. DISCUSSION: A legendary collection. Filled with superlatives and material that makes the word“superlative” seem dull and insufficient. It was rich in 18th century decorations, including ormolu-mounted Chinese vases, gilt lamps& mirrors, Sevres porcelains, bronzes and other very fine objects. There were also the finest examples of the French cabinetmaker’s art, many pieces of which are illustrated here in folding color plates. The furniture include many signed examples, and many with gilt mountings and fine marquetry work. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 8.5”x11” About 150 pages, 103 lots, color illustrations, folding color plates, dust jacket. CONDITION NOTES: ... moreA little light rubbing to the jacket. 18th Century Delft Antique Old Moor's Head Miniature Chair Doll Furniture
Old Moor's Head Miniature Delft Chair This is a very beautiful hand painted Delft miniature armchair. It is a wonderful example of Delftware and would look great with an antique doll. The chair is painted on all sides with fantastic lake scenes and sailboats. I find this to be an exquisite piece! It also goes very well with a table that is currently up for sale. It is signed with one of the Old Moor's Head marks under the glaze. If this is authentic. And I am no expert, this piece likely dates to the 1700s. I got this from the estate of a serious Delft collector along with some other pieces up for sale. Miniature pieces of this caliber are very hard to find and this one is no exception. It will be expertly packed and the free shipping in the US also includes insurance. Size- the chair is 6.25" tall. 3.25" wide, and 3.25" ... moredeep. Condition- This chair is in excellent condition! There are some tiny little nicks on one arm edge and the very top of the head rest. There could also be some tiny flea bites along other edges but I have only found the two I mentioned. I got this from the estate of a serious Delft collector and have a matching table up for sale too. The price includes Free Shipping within the U.S. International customers please email me for a shipping quote. LONDON FURNITURE MAKERS & THEIR ENGRAVED TRADE CARDS - 17th 18th 19th CENTURY
The London Furniture Makers. From the Restoration to the Victorian Era, 1660-1840” By Sir Ambrose Heal. Published in London by B.T. Batsford in 1953. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: This book was the result of thirty years of research. And includes the names, dates and addresses of 2,500 London cabinetmakers and cabinetmaking firms. There are also illustrations of many of their dramatic and beautiful engraved trade cards. An important reference work. Sir Ambrose Heal[1872-1959] was an English furniture designer and businessman. Heal was the great-grandson of John Harris Heal. The founder of the Heals furniture manufacturing and retail business. He served a two-year apprenticeship to a cabinetmaker in Warwick and six months working for Graham and Biddle, furnishers, of Oxford Street. In the mid-1890s he began designing ... moresimple, sturdy furniture, often in plain oak(in contrast to Heals' standard"Queen Anne" and"Old English" styles) Although initially his designs were not popular with sales staff, who called them"prison furniture" they found a place at exhibitions of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society and soon became so successful that prejudices were overcome. Undoubtedly influenced by the teachings of Ruskin and William Morris, he embraced the use of machinery where appropriate. In 1913, on the death of his father, he was elected chairman of Heals, using this position to champion artistic design within furniture manufacture and marketing. In 1933. He was knighted for raising standards of design, and in 1939 was appointed a royal designer for industry. He established an art gallery at the Tottenham Court Road premises showing works by Picasso, Wyndham Lewis and Modigliani. Artists such as Claud Lovat Fraser designed the company's posters, and its catalogues contained essays by influential art critics. The overall effect was to promote Heals as an iconic brand. Heal's influence over the company diminished in the mid-1930s, when one of his sons became

18th CENTURY WINDHAM CONNECTICUT FURNITURE, SILVER, PAINTINGS, ANTIQUES, More!
The Devotion Family. The Lives and Possessions of Three Generations in Eighteenth-Century Connecticut” By Lance Mayer& Gay Myers. Published in New London by the Lyman Allyn Art Museum in 1991. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: An interesting exhibition featuring 8 period portraits as well as a number of pieces of furniture and some silver. Linens, books, etc. A March 31, 1991 New York Times story reported- Members of an 18th-century family in Windham, Ebenezer Devotion, a judge of the county court; his wife, Eunice; his parents; his four children, and other relatives, are the subjects of an exhibition at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum, 625 Williams Street in New London. Many family artifacts have been preserved by the Devotions' descendants still living in Windham. Many of the items were donated to historical societies ... moreand museums, and they have been gathered together for this display by Lance Mayer and Gay Myers, Lyman Allyn's conservators. The family portraits in the exhibition were the first important commission for a 20-year-old painter named Winthrop Chandler. Among them is one of Ebenezer's father, a minister and member of the state legislature. The family had a distinguished history. Ebenezer's sister married Samuel Huntington, who became Governor of Connecticut. Ebenezer himself was a member of the Sons of Liberty. He made his fortune as a merchant, trading in rum, molasses, sugar, and food for the American Army during the Revolutionary War. The exhibition contains his ledgers, which detail his sales and purchases. The personal possessions- including beds, desks, chairs, tables, silver, clothing and portraits- indicate the family's high status in the community. Letters exchanged among Ebenezer's children as they went off to pursue careers and marriages provide intimate glimpses into their relationships. Making the Grand Figure. Lives and Possessions in Ireland. 1641-1770” By Toby Barnard. Published in New Haven by the Yale University Press in 2004. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: In this pioneering study of the material culture of Stuart and Hanoverian Ireland. Toby Barnard reveals a hitherto unsuspected richness and diversity of lifestyle, habitat and mentality. The compass of the book is impressively wide, from the governing elite of Dublin Castle to provincial towns and the countryside beyond. Looking yet further, it follows the Irish overseas to Britain and the continent of Europe. Through such everyday articles as linen shirts, wigs, silver teaspoons, pottery plates and engravings, Barnard evokes a striking variety of lives and attitudes. Possessions, he shows, highlighted and widened divisions, not only between ... morethe rich and poor, women and men, but also between Irish Catholics and the Protestant settlers. There are chapters focusing on the house. Interiors, goods, pictures, the park& garden, sport, dress, Dublin, going abroad, and Society. 17th & 18th Century FRENCH INTERIORS, FURNITURE, DECORATION Many Illustrations
AN HISTORICAL GUIDE TO FRENCH INTERIORS. FURNITURE, DECORATION, WOODWORK, ALLIED ARTS DURING THE LAST HALF OF THE SEVENTEENTH CENTURY, THE WHOLE OF THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY, AND THE EARLIER PART OF THE NINETEENTH BY THOMAS ARTHUR STRANGE. PUBLISHED BY McCORQUODALE& CO. LONDON/CHARLES SCRIBNERS SONS, NY- UNDATED If you like interior design and anything French. This is the book for you. It is absolutely LOADED with illustrations of French decor, interior architecture, furniture, outdoor fountains, ironwork, and statues, and all kinds of ornate ornamentation. It is a large and heavy book. Standing 12" x 9 1/2" wide, with 400 pages, every one of them with illustrations. The book has red cloth covers and a leather spine, but don't bid on the book for it's outward appearance-it's not too impressive. The covers are faded ... moreand stained and the leather is cracking and missing in places. Also the first and last sections of pages are water stained(maybe 40-50 pages in all) But the illustrations and the shear amount of work featured is spectacular! Please see the photos provided as a small sampling of the book and ask any questions. If you enjoy old books. Please keep checking my auctions. I have MANY old& interesting books to be listed at fair prices. Thanks!

The wood appears to be oak but I'm not positive. It still has that wonderful old patina to the wood. It measures approximately 23" long x about 11 1/2" high and the thickest part of the wood is about 2" at each end with the flowers) The wood is split down the middle of the wreath, there are some chips(or missing) to the leaves that stick out on the sides, and there is part of the ribbon missing above the wreath. There may be other spots of chipped wood, but nothing that noticeable. Despite the flaws, this is a very old hand carved wooden pediment to display and enjoy! It is still awesomely beautiful.
