ANTIQUE OIL LAMP An Antique Oil Lamp with Bracket and Mercury Reflector. The closure on the oil lamp is marked B&H. I believe it is brass. It does not attract a magnet. The burner is marked Eagle-not sure if that was replaced. The mercury reflector measures approximately 8" across. It is in real nice shape. some age spotting. But there are not any cracks, chips, or repairs. The bracket is cast iron with a gold wash. The owner had mounted the wall mount on an oval piece of wood. Unique antique oil lamp wall bracket
This cast iron oil lamp bracket is unique in that it has a solid bowl and a larger than normal mounting stem. The stem measures about 1/2 inch in diameter. It appears to have once had a reflector plate mounted on a stem on the upper portion of the bracket. There is a patent date of January 31.1871 in the bowl. There is some surface rust on the entire unit. It measures 9 1/2" High. 12 1/4"long and the bowl is 5 1/2" across the top, 4" across the bottom and 1 1/2" deep. The bracket weighs about 2 3/4 pounds. After some research, The bowl design has a special patent#US000111430 and the design by Nathaniel Bradley was to eliminate the possibility of lamp oil seepage due to the common way of attaching the bowl with a screw being drilled through the bottom of the bowl. Unrestored but good sound example here. Lovely bevelled edge original glass in good condition, has been fitted with electrics but need renewing. Sits a bit lower than photos as I put up temporarily but had the bracket upside down.
