Description Up for sale is a Stunning Pair of Large Vintage/Contemporary Swirl Form Ceramic Lamps circa 1980's with lucite bases and finials. This substantial pair of lamps features great decorator form having twisted ceramic bodies with a donut hole through the center. The color is a soft pink but sometimes has a light coral color in certain lights. The exact manufacturer of these lamps is undetermined but the styling and quality are very similar to Marbro. The pair is in excellent vintage condition being approx. 20-30 years old with no breaks or repairs to the ceramic bodies. Slight age appropriate wear to the brass necks below the light socket and one lucite finial has an interior crack as pictured which is very hard to notice. Marianna Von Allesch FISH Ceramic Table Lamp Mid-Century Modern click picture to enlarge Description This sculptural mid-century modern table lamp was designed by Marianna Von Allesch(b. Germany c.1886- d. New York 1972) Born in Bavaria. She studied at the Royal Academy in Berlin with Bruno Paul before relocating to the US in 1928. She designed in many mediums(glass, furniture, ceramics) but is best known for her creative art pottery lamp designs. In the 1950s, she worked closely with architect Morris Lapidus designing lamps for the lobby and rooms of the Americana Hotel in Bal Harbour, Miami, Florida. This lamp is of what I think is her best form. Like a twisting torso of the human body. The decor is a rarely seen fish with great mid-century colors. SIZE: It is BIG! Total height is about 33 1/2" Height of ceramic portion is approximately ... more18 1/4" Width at widest point(near top of ceramic) is about 7" Depth is about 5" MARKS: Incised signature of the artist" Marianna Von Allesch" near base. CONDITION: Vintage item. It is NOT in mint condition. There are some bruises and crazing throughout. Near the bottom there is a touch of surface cracking- slightly more than typical crazing. From afar. These issues do not take away from the overall statement of the lamp, but up close, they are visible. I have tried to make it look as bad as possible in the many photos included below. Up for auction I have this Large Retro 1960's Danish Modern Mid Century Modern with Danish Walnut upper post and Green Mottled Drip Glaze Ceramic Pottery lamp. Lamp does have a metal brown base. Measurements: 26"s tall top of socket- to final top is 34's has a Berger swivel final 6 1/4' base body is 7 1/3' diameter Condition: Excellent having no chips. No cracks, excellent color and shine in glaze, wood is in excellent condition with no wear. As with most ceramic/pottery there may be fluctuations in glaze, a thin spot, raised spot under glaze, a glaze pop or crazing. The ceramic base is substantial with a star pattern that repeats over the base. The glaze has a nice variation of colors that go from a deep brown to earthy greens and some hints of blue. The piece is in excellent working condition with no chips or scratches on the body. There is a spot on the wood neck where there is knot in the wood that requires it be oiled with Olde English from time to time. Otherwise the piece is in fantastic condition.
