It is a wonderful upholstered antique foot stool with a pale red damask upholstery with golden edging tucked over the sides, the apron of the stool a serpentine form with subtle molding that culminates at each center with a five-petal floral motif flanked by outflowing foliage. The stool rests over four cabriole legs with simply gorgeous and very precise carving from the knee to the toe. The surface of the antique french foot stool appears to be untouched and original. With a distressed finish of gilt on gesso with painted highlights, giving the antique foot stool incredible charm and character. This is a piece that was built to last with strong and heavy construction throughout. The crest is an ornate and complicated carving of flowing ribbon tied in a double-bow and interlaced with flowers that sprout over and along the frame, likewise carved carefully with a large twisted rope molding lined by a small twisted rope border. The arms flow down into curved handholds, the arm supports terminating in the frame with acanthus leaves sprouting up along the edges. A very fine antique. Circa 1890's-1930's, French porcelain banquet lamp base, either an oil lamp electrified or designed as electric in 20th century. It is hand enamel decorated and gilt accented. It is in working order with new cord and plug, switch on the socket, and includes the brass socket and harp, no finial. Marked in the underside faintly: Made in France, Hand Painted, and crossed"L's" for King Louis. From harp down to bottom measures 34-1/2" tall by 10-1/2" bottom diameter. RARE: Signed EF Caldwell bronze sconce in the Louis XV or Rococo style, c. 1900
For sale is a lovely and beautifully cast gold gilded bronze two light wall sconce by well known American lighting maker EF Caldwell. Done in the Louis XV or Rococo style and made c. 1900. The bronze is marked on the back with Caldwell's'C' within a lozenge signature. It's very difficult to find Louis XV fixtures by Caldwell. The sconce is in very good condition, but the bronze could use a cleaning if you happen to be into that. At one point there were probably crystals or lusters hanging from the top of each arm since there are a few holes for that purpose. The sconce measures approximately 17" tall x 14" long x 7.5" deep. I will be liquidating a large portion of my inventory and personal collection over the next couple of weeks. We are pleased to offer this exquisite pair of older vintage(1940s-1950s) table lamps. The lamps are French. Louis XV style with Greek/Roman Revival, neoclassical influence. The lamps feature porcelain, urn bodies with brass hardware. The bases feature Greek Key borders with acanthus medallions. A brass acanthus spacer separates the lower, pedestal section of the urns from their large bodies. A"faux oil" lamp adjuster is located near the socket and is in the form of a laurel wreath. The porcelain is a BEAUTIFUL, soft, muted pink with a cream/vanilla hue which softens the pink color. The porcelain has gilded borders for accent. The lamps have a front and back side, with each having a gilded, center medallion in"portrait" style. The front profile features a large warrior helmet silhouette and the backs feature a coat of ... morearms/crest with crossed swords, ribbon, tassels, and acanthus leaves with a trumpet/French horn in the forefront. The lamps are quite beautiful. They are not marked, but have socket surrounds indicative of those that the Rembrandt Company used on their lamps. The actual sockets are ceramic and original. The lamps operate with one, extra large" Mogul style bulb. The on/off switches are located at the socket area and are Leviton. The lamps have vintage wiring and are working. However, they do not have today's safety prongs, and we recommend that you replace the plugs. The lamps also retain their very large, milk glass diffuser shades.
