Very Ornate with Scrolling Leaf ... moreDesigns and Turning Swirls. Both with 5 candle holding arms. Very attractive pair of early Wall Sconces or Candelabras. No markings found. One sconce still has the gold gilt leaf on the wall mount and on the scalloped candle arms holder. The other one is still showing mostly silver paint which has been on for a long time and has the Gold Gilt Leaf showing through the silver paint. No damage or repairs on either one. I believe they could be solid bronze but can't guarantee it. There are two top candle drip pieces that screw off and were stripped years ago showing the old solid bronze metal(Pic. 5- 8) It also shows through in different areas on both sconces. All 10 top 2 piece drip plates unscrew off for easy cleaning. These were bought out of an old Hotel which was being torn down. The two Candelabras were mounted on the sides of an old Marble Top Fire Place Mantel. They are complete and ready for mounting. One has the two original wall mounting brackets and the other one has only the one(Pic. 11& 12) These will be beautiful if refinished. They are also beautiful in the condition they are presently in. Entirely up to the buyer. This is a very useful set and would look lovely in a restored Victorian Home. Please see all pictures and ask any questions. Be sure to use close up. I am not an expert on Guilted Bronze Items but these appear to me as Bronze but I can't guarantee it. So, be sure to ask me any questions before bidding. At first I thought they were cast iron but now I am not sure. With the two top pieces stripped and definitely being either brass or bronze and seeing a brassy/bronze metal look under the layers of old patina and paint. They could be bronze. Dating to the second half of the 19th century, which have been mounted as lamps. The pair of lamps would make a most elegant statement in virtually any room in your house or office. The lamps are predominantly bronze with the base and shaft made of black marble. They include both candelabras' original ornate snuffers. The lamps have been mounted on an ebonized base and fitted with a lighting fixture extending up the back and a brown silk cord. Antique Bronze Lamp Base Louis Majorelle ? Twisted Tree Trunk 3 Leaf Clovers
Note: I'm not an expert in this area but was told that this lamp base possibly could have been an early piece by Louis Majorelle.I was told 3 Leaf Clovers or symbols were a hallmark of his and the Details of the lamp point to his earlier work.Although I have made no attempt to clean the lamp and it has a very old patina I was also told the'Gold Wash' was probably alot brighter and more pronounced originally.Bid on what you see- personally I don't think the photos do it justice.and if not by Louis Majorelle- it certainly is still a stunning Antique Art Nouveau Lamp- with the right shades it would be stunning.No Reserve Auction. For sale is a lovely and beautifully cast gold gilded bronze two light wall sconce by well known American lighting maker EF Caldwell. Done in the Louis XV or Rococo style and made c. 1900. The bronze is marked on the back with Caldwell's'C' within a lozenge signature. It's very difficult to find Louis XV fixtures by Caldwell. The sconce is in very good condition, but the bronze could use a cleaning if you happen to be into that. At one point there were probably crystals or lusters hanging from the top of each arm since there are a few holes for that purpose. The sconce measures approximately 17" tall x 14" long x 7.5" deep. I will be liquidating a large portion of my inventory and personal collection over the next couple of weeks.
